News & Notes

- Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling is retiring. He made the announcement today on his blog. He may have said a lot of things that pissed me off, but as much as I hate to admit it, he was a hell of a pitcher.

OK now on to Yankee related stuff:

- Joe Girardi told reporters that if the season began tomorrow Xavier Nady would be the starting right fielder.

- Chien-Ming Wang will pitch in the April 3rd exhibition against the Cubs at the new stadium.

- Wang was also going to stay back at the minor-league complex today and pitch for single-A Tampa against Toronto prospects, but that was rained out. Instead, he will head to Dunedin to play in the AAA game. Jorge Posada will do the catching. OK so much for that. This update comes from Peter Abraham:
UPDATE, 12:42 p.m.: OK, now we’re hearing that CMW got rained out in Dunedin and is headed here with Jorge Posada. So stay tuned for a lineup change.
- Joe Girardi exchanged text messages with A-Rod and the third baseman says he's progressing nicely. He's been swimming and riding a bike a lot.

- According to Bryan Hoch's Twitter page, the Yankees have optioned Kei Igawa to AAA.

- Steve Serby of the Post sat down with Mark Teixeira for this Q&A. Not really news, but it's worth a read.

- And as always, you can follow the game on MLB.com's live boxscore.

Stick around and discuss the game

Can't say I'm sad to see Curt go. He was great, but such a a-hole.

That's one way to describe him.

I like Nady as the starter, Swisher does some good things, but overall I think Nady is the better player.

Ehhh, what can you do? It's just spring.

The one thing that bothers me is how bad Bruney has been.

I know. He has nasty stuff and if Joba stays in the rotation, he would be the set-up man.
