Much like CC Sabathia, Chien-Ming Wang took the time after a rough outing to work on some issues with pitching coach Dave Eiland. His mechanics were ut of wack which was causing him to leave pitches up in the zone. Well, whatever they did seemed to work as Wang threw five strong innings yesterday en route to a 4-1 Yankees win. He allowed just one run on three hits, while striking out two. 10 of the other 13 outs were recorded on the ground.
How about those Astros? They are now 1-and-15 this spring. I know these games don't count, but that's just awful. Their one win came against the Nationals all the way back on February 25th, the first game of the spring.
Phil Coke, Brett Tomko, Jose Veras, and Jonathan Albaladejo each pitched scoreless innings. Veras struggled a bit with control, walking two, but besides that all pitchers threw the ball well.
Eric Duncan was called up to join the team for yesterday's game and made the most of his opportunity, going 1-for-1 with a two-run single.
Angel Berroa and Melky Cabrera both had RBIs.
Robinson Cano and Jose Molina were the only Yankees with multi-hit games, Cano went 2-for-4 and Molina went 2-for-3.
Austin Jackson had a nice game, going 1-for-1 with a stolen base and two runs scored.
Mark Teixeira (1-for-2 with a BB), Nick Swisher (1-for-3), and P.J. Pilittere (1-for-1 with a run scored) also had hits.
