A.J. Burnett made his Yankees spring training debut yesterday as the Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers 12-3. Burnett pitched well. He allowed just one hit and needed just 18 pitches to get through two innings. He faced the minimum six batters, retiring three on ground outs, and three on fly outs. Also, according to some of the writers at the game, Burnett was hitting 98 MPH on the radar gun.

Phil Hughes came in for the next three innings and was also impressive. He didn't allow a hit, walked two, and struck out four.

Brian Bruney pitched an inning and allowed two runs on a Will Rhymes two-run homer. He also walked one and struck out one.

Andrew Brackman was next out of the Yankees pen. He started off very shaky, loading the bases with nobody out. But after allowing a run to score on a sac-fly, he got the next hitting to hit into a doubleplay to end the inning with limited damage done.

Eric Hacker pitched a perfect 8th inning.

Mark Melancon finished off the game in the 9th, didn't allow a hit, walked one and struck out one.

Overall it was a good day for Yankee pitching, but it's worth noting that the Tigers were without Miguel Cabrera, Curtis Granderson, Carlos Guillen, and Maggilo Ordonez who are all playing in the WBC.

Offensively the Yankees were led by Angel Berroa. He went 2-for-3 with a homer, 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored. His homer put the Yankees up 3-0 in the second and they rolled from there. He's now hitting .500 for the spring.

Cody Ransom and Jose Molina also had two hits each. Molina added two RBI as well.

Xavier Nady went 1-for-3 with a homer and a RBI. Melky Cabrera, Colin Curtis, Ramiro Pena, Doug Bernier, and Eduardo Nunez also had one hit apiece.

Besides the 12 hits, the Yankees also walked 10 times on the day.
