The Yankees are telling clubs that they are open to moving outfielder Melky Cabrera, who would be a perfect fit for the White Sox.I like Melky, and I still think he can be productive at the major league level, even in a bench role, but if they can get something of value in return for him they gotta make the move.Cabrera trails Brett Gardner in the Yankees' center-field competition. By trading him, the team could open at-bats for Nick Swisher, who was beaten out by Xavier Nady in right field but also plays center, left and first.
The Yankees have talked about trading either Nady or Swisher, but potential suitors might be more willing to part with young talent for Cabrera, who is 24 and four years away from free agency.
Jerry Owens, Brian Anderson and DeWayne Wise have been competing for the White Sox's centerfield job. Cabrera almost certainly would hold greater appeal.
Gary Matthews Jr. could be another possibility for the White Sox, if the Angels are willing to pay the vast majority of the $33 million remaining on the final three years of his contract. The White Sox have expressed some interest in a deal of that nature, one source said.

Melky for Betemit haha
Oh god no!
That's not even funny, Adam.
If they get rid of Melky, I'd be fine with it. It means Gardner is the guy in CF, for good or bad. The only downside would be if Gardner gets injured. That would force Swisher into CF, which is not a good place for him. I sure don't want to see Damon there. There's no one ready in SWB to move into CF.
I think Melky's ceiling is very low, and now is great time to "sell."
Why not slot Austin Jackson into CF if Gardner get's injured?
AJ isn't ready. I watched him all last season at Trenton. He needs to improve his contact with the ball (too many swings & misses) and he doesn't have patience when at-bat. MLB pitchers will kill him right now. He's 22 & I would hate to rush this kid only to watch him fail.
I wouldn't mind seeing him up for a week or two for a 'cup o coffee', but that's it. Maybe in September if he continues to develop.
AJ shouldn't be Duncaned.
I wonder what we could get for him.
I would trade Melky he is a fifth outfielder on this team. It really doesn't make sense to keep him. And he is playing very well right now in spring training and as good numbers it is the right time to trade him.
Get another young arm or get quality bench player who can play all over in the outfield and infield.
I wouldn't mind if they got rid of him. See 'ya, Melky...
Mike
