(AAA) Scranton-Wilkes Barre (7-0) beat Buffalo 4-3: Box Score - Recap
The SWB Yankees extended their undefeated streak to 7 games with a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Bisons (Mets).
PITCHING: Ian Kennedy made his 2nd start of the young season coming off a gem in his first outing where he had 11 strikeouts. In the 1st inning he gave up 2 singles, but got 2 strikeouts to get out of the jam. Kennedy threw a scoreless 2nd inning. He gave up a walk and single, but worked out of the jam with 2 groundouts. Kennedy pitched a scoreless 3rd, with a walk. Buffalo scored 1 run in the bottom of the 4th on a single and double to make the score 2-1 Yanks. Kennedy finished strong throwing perfect 5th & 6th innings. He got the win (1-0). Kennedy's line: 6.0 IP, 1 run, 5 hits, 5 K's--2 walks, 94 pitches---63 strikes, 6 groundouts - 7 flyouts.
BULLPEN: Anthony Claggett came on in relief of Kennedy to pitch the 7th. He gave up 2 runs on 4 consecutive singles to make the score SWB 4-3.
Brett Tomko came on to pitch a scoreless 8th inning, giving up a double and picking up a strikeout. Tomko threw a perfect 9th inning with the help of a fine catch by John Rodriguez, to pick up his 2nd save.
OFFENSE: SWB broke out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on John Rodriguez's solo homer (1). The Yanks took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 4th on a solo homer by Juan Miranda (3). SWB picked up it's 3rd run in the 6th when Miranda walked, moved to 2nd on a wild pitch, moved to 3rd on an infield groundout, and scored on Eric Duncan's RBI single making the score SWB 3-1. The final Yankee run came in the 7th on doubles by Rodriguez and Angel Berroa to make it 4-3 SWB.
NOTES: The bad news is that Austin Jackson was taken out of the game after being hit by a pitch near his elbow in the 2nd inning. According to Chad Jennings, SWB manager Dave Miley said Jackson was day-to-day. Kevin Russo was also taken out in the 3rd inning because of an injury, no word on what the injury is. Alfredo Aceves makes his 2nd start Thursday in the series finale at Buffalo before SWB goes home for their home opener Friday night. Accodring to Mike Ashmore, utility man Carlos Mendoza has been promoted from Trenton to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
