Peter Abraham is reporting that Xavier Nady felt a sharp pain in his right elbow in the seventh inning of today's game. He has had previous elbow injuries and in 2002 had Tommy John surgery. He will have undergo an MRI tomorrow.
Aren't you glad they didn't trade Nick Swisher?

Its a good thing swish is on fire
Ain't that the truth.
Crap. Hopefully he is ok. We need as many bats as we can get until Tex is fully healed and A-Rod gets back.
But yeah... good thing we didn't trade Swisher. Yikes.
Might be good for nady to sit.. Giradi won't have find a way for Swish to get in lineup! When Nady came last year he seemed more energized!! Now seems Swish is bringing that intensity!!
Hopefully Xavier is going to be okay. This hurts are depth. X is swinging the bat pretty good right now. Matsui is the one that is struggling.
i hope nady is okay, bc like everyone else has posted, we need as many bats as possible. hopefully this is just a minor problem and nady will be fine and only miss a couple of games, bc swish can start every game if we need him to, but our bench is more depleted if we need to fill in for nady with a minor leaguer, although angel berroa may be a good choice to fill in
Maybe bring up Kevin Cash as the third catcher and have Posada DH more often.
Unreal, already breaking down and according to Peter Abraham we have several options in AAA with Shelley Duncan and John Rodriquez. *roll eyes* Simply amazing that are OF depth in AAA is so poor. I guess the rally killing Melky will be playing more. Rock on. I can't wait for Arod the savior to return.
Anon- OF Depth in the minors isn't poor, it's just that you don't bring up prospects to sit on the bench. Austin Jackson is tearing it up (so far early on) at AAA, but they're not going to bring him up to sit. I'm not sure what kind of depth you expect in terms of utility outfielders at the minor league level.
John Rodriguez is a career .298 hitter in the majors, so he can hold his own with the bat.
None of the guys you would bring up would be starting anyway. As it stands now, we've got Melky as a 4th outfielder even if Nady is injured or unavailable. In my opinion, we don't even need to call up another outfielder if Nady goes on the DL. Ransom can play the OF in a pinch anyway.
I don't mind the 3rd catcher idea that one of the anonymous posters mentioned. The only problem is that Kevin Cash hurt his shoulder today in the Scranton game. They won't know how severe the injury is for a day or two.
try ceravelli he is prob better anyway.
you know something that is frustrating about the yankees, they had Navaro and Pena at one point and know they are basically all stars in tampa and for cheap.
The Navarro trade made sense at the time, and it took him quite a while to get where he is now. I also personally feel he's not going to hit like he did last season ever again, and even his 2008 season wasn't really anything outrageously great - a .757 OPS.
As for Pena, the Rangers, Athletics, Tigers, Yankees, and Red Sox all let him go because he was either awful or inconsistent. Nobody could have known he'd have the kind of break out year he had two years ago. He was also a lot worse in 2008 than in 07. Although still good, his OPS (.871) dropped .160 points from 2007, and at the age of 31 (almost 32), he's now unlikely to ever repeat 07. He's now just a swing for the fences guy who will have an OPS in the low to mid .800s and strike out a ton. For a 1st baseman, that's easy to come by.
wow ya never know when injuries will happen. maybe this opens the door for Yankees to bring up AJax sooner than expected.
we got randy johnson for navarro, RJ won some big games vs boston only during the season. don't want to think about the past 5 seasons
Yep, I'm glad we still have Swisher! Aw geez....I hate to lose some of our depth.
Mike
Sounds like Nady has blown out his elbow.
For those you think A.Jackson is coming well he's not.
He hasn't even played a month in AAA any you want him up?
And if he struggles you would be the same one calling him a bust.
