I was just on the Yankee web site and under Yankee Stadium; seats and prices; the cost for the "field" seats in the "Legends" sections are listed as $375, game day other prices for field seats behind the dugouts were listed as $300. Did the finally lower prices? Still way too expensive but down from $2600 and $900. Did not see a press release or anything, just wondering.

need to score some runs

Something has to happen here, they need to light a fire under this team!! Fire Girardi, do something!!!, i think they will go on a run when arod comes back and they play the weaker part of schedule... but this is pathetic!

stick a fork in this team, old, slow starters, injuries, inexperenced mgr, NO pitching, its just keeps getting worse, can anyone or anything STOP THE BLEEDING....

they look like they just want to get out of town - no life - no fire!

Woo! Melancon baby! Great start to hopefully a great career.

With regards to the overall negative perspective that most people seem to have on the Yankees right now, I'm not going to read too much into three games. There have been plenty of times when the Red Sox looked great in April series and tanked in September. Is this going to be the case? Probably not but you can't dismiss the fact that it's a long season. Overall I still like our rotation and some of the young arms in our bullpen. And we've done some things well in this series too, you can't totally dismiss that.

My one complaint though, and this has been a complaint for a while, is that there just isn't enough speed on this team. They're a little better than last season, but mostly we're still a station to station offense. Jeter's not the runner he used to be, neither is Damon. Cano, Matsui, and Teixeira aren't exactly guys who are going to take an extra base, and while Swisher will hustle his ass off, he's not that fast either. And Posada's just slow. Like it or not, even when everyone hits that is going to hurt us. Not too sure there's much we can do about that this year though. Gardner's not going to be a .300 hitter and right now (theoretically if we were to trade Damon) I'm not sure that Jackson would be either. Pena can run a little bit if we were to move Jeter to the outfield, but again he's not much with the bat. So from that standpoint... not too good. But it's not the end of the world. It's still April, we're at .500, and Boston's just on a roll right now.

jmas12 said...

Oh, and another weak grounder past the range of Jeter. Please take note.

It isn't 3 games.....you're deaf, dumb and blind.

First thing to do is Fire Cashman and Girardi.

Second, Posada can never catch another game and Jeter can never play another game at SS. And, frankly, I would get rid of Posada, Jeter, Mo, Matsui, Damon and Arod permanently. They're too old and are has-beens. Go youth pay the price. We are paying for it anyways.

This is a huge improvement immediately.

Damon, shoulder injury. They sure do drop like flies around Girardi, don't they? Finally Melancon!

3 game sweep at the hands of the Red Sox and just think it was ALL started by Mariano River. Great job Rivera. Hey Cashman why don't you extend another old has-been. Its your way.....

jmas12 said...

Ok Anonymous, take a chill pill. We're 9-9, and there's alot of baseball left to be played. This isn't the NFL where you can react on a few games. There have been things the Yankees have done well, they just need to get everything pulling together.

But like I said, in terms of defensive issues and lack of speed, there's not a hell of alot we can do about that right now. Unless you want to totally give up on the season in April.

And, oh yea, all 3 losses were started by WHICH catcher? Oh that's right Posada. Another Cashman winner for you!

Changes need to be made. This is a joke. I know the team in plagued by injuries but its complete bullshit. Joe Girardi needs to be fired, Dave Eiland (12-27 career record, 5.47 era) needs to be fired and lastly Kevin Long (played all of 6-7 seasons, I was not aware that was enough time to be declared coach worthy) needs to be fired. Although Girardi was a great player it won’t mean he’ll be a great coach/manager, his moves are questionable and he always uses the same guys. Jose Veras, Damaso Marte and Edwar Ramirez are not RELIABLE relief pitchers. All 3 are streaky and not streaky from game to game, streaky from pitch to pitch, batter to batter and that’s not even mediocre, that’s a disgrace. We have Phil Coke, Jon Albaladejo, Mark Melancon, Steven Jackson and David Robertson out there, and Joe sticks away from them like they have AIDS. His infinite hard-on for Brett Gardner needs to come to an end, he is 1 dimensional, only has speed, does not hit, can’t take a walk, why is he here? Melky, who’s rotting on the bench, has out-played and out shined Gardner in fewer games! When will Girardi recognize this? And for god sake, give Pena a shot. Let’s see what the kids got. Berroa does not play 3rd, has fallen off the wagon, can’t hit, and why is he here? Changes need to be made, coaching, personnel, players, something needs to be done.

Perhaps I need to stop fishing, because whenever I spend the day fishing and come home to check the score, the Yanks are in trouble.

In another thread I speculated that there's something about Girardi and his coaches that seems to lead to many injuries. Hmmm....

I'm still biting my lip (for just another...what?...week or two?), but I must say it looks like Girardi hasn't got a clue. When I came home and turned on the game, the camera showed Girardi in the dugout and he looked like a lost little boy....

Of course, Greg knows exactly which guy in the front office I was never too crazy about, but I'm still biting my lip....

What a disgrace....

Did anyone else seem to think that Girardi was setting Melancon up to fail on purpose by having him face the heart of the Red Sox order, so people would stop questioning his choice not to carry long relivers.

I know everyone is going to start freaking out, and it's not without decent cause, but really things have just been a little screwy.

First of all, coming into this series, the Yankees were 9-3 in games Wang didn't start.

Next, the Yankees have now played 12 games on the road and just 6 at home. It's hard to really get into any sort of rhythm when you've spent nearly all your time on the road.

In this series against the Red Sox, there were several very small, key momentum shifts. First, in game one, let's just say hypothetically that Bay's ball gets knocked down by the wind and is caught, or off the wall for a double and Mo gets the save. The Yankees might very well have gone on to sweep.

In game 2, with the score 6-0, JD Drew took two VERY borderline strikes for balls and ended up walking on a 3-2 count. These are pitches that could easily be called strikes. If he Ks, it's 6-0 Yankees with a man on first and two outs. The entire rally would have been averted. Instead, Drew walked, Jason Bay hit a seeing eye, slow grounder through the left side (could have easily been a DP ball), and then Varitek, who was batting .220 with just 4 RBI coming into that at bat, just happens to take a swing and get ahold of one. That, my friends, is what happens when you're the Boston Red Sox, at Fenway Park, on a 7 game winning streak, after having beat Rivera the night before.

The other thing to question here is why this series was played at Fenway park. The Yankees have played 12 games on the road, just 6 at home, while the Red Sox have already played 12 games at the friendly confines of Fenway, including a 9 consecutive game homestand, while playing just 6 on the road. This series could have, and SHOULD have been swapped with another series down the road, and been played at Yankee Stadium, to more evenly distribute home/road games this early in the season. When it's April, getting off to a hot start can be a significant boost for a team, and the Red Sox conveniently had a nice cushy 9 game homestand on their schedule to pull them out of their horrendous 2-6 start. Lucky for them, they got to come home to Fenway for nine straight games, where by some mysterious voodoo, it's impossible for that team to lose.

When the Yankees get a (hopefully) healthy and straightened out Wang back, A-Rod back, and hopefully Bruney back, I'm extremely confident that this team will have a great chance to win every day.

Tex is a slow starter, we have no A-Rod and his replacements have done literally NOTHING other than make critical errors, Wang was a no-show and handed us three automatic losses, Bruney is now injured, and CC is off to a somewhat slow start.

Once the season really gets into full swing and every stupid series doesn't start with a home opener or mass-hysteria like this Fenway series, the team will get into a groove. The pen will be much, much better than its shown so far, and I have a lot of confidence that the younger guys like Coke, Melancon, Robertson, Veras, etc can make major contributions when things start to settle in a bit. With all these crazy opening days all these road games, the A-Rod injury, Tex's cranky wrist, and the Wang fiasco, it's just been hard for the team to get any sort of consistancy.

Point being, let's give these guys a chance to settle in, play some games at home, and see how things are going in June and July.

The sweep was embarassing. Mo blew the game on Friday, AJ blow a 6 run lead and Berroa defense hurt the team. Only Gardner could drive a runner in from third. Posada and Pettitte should be ashamed that they let Ellsbury steal home.

I always thought that today was a perfect day to play Pena at third this was not a second guess because Pettitte is becoming more of a groundball pitcher and Berroa defense raised Petttite pitch count and cost us a run.

Its way too early to to overreact and make a bunch of changes. Outside of Pettitte are pitching staff hasn't been to good the bullpen is worn out.

Greg Cohen said...

I have to agree with the angry anonymous poster. These losses were pathetic in every way shape and form. The Yankees were made to look like a second rate team all weekend and there is nothing that can be said that can defend the truth. The Yankees are just not a very good baseball team at the moment and the Red Sox are.

Greg Cohen said...

By the way, 23 comments? Where the hell was everyone tonight?

Anonymous said...

The starters are what the real problem was in the beginning of the season. CC is suppose to be an innings eater and he only went 7 innings once. Wang has been a disaster and has worn out the bullpen. AJ pitched very well but Saturday was a joke. Joba is the fifth starter I didn't really think he would go deep into games right. Pettitte has been great. We were suppose to win with our pitching until A-Rod gets back that is not happening.

Losing Nady hurt are depth, Bruney is a huge loss and Ransom was a loss because now we have a butcher at thirdbase.

Teixeira is not hitting enough. Posada and Swisher cooled off. Also Melky sucks whenever runners are in scoring position.

Also Cashman is getting schooled by Theo. The drafts under Cashman as been a joke. Have the yankees devoloped a homegrown positional player in the last 10 years from the draft. What a joke.

- After the steal of home plate, I turned it off to do homework...couldn't take it anymore

Ok, tonight was tough. It seems like nothing's working right now.

Yanks score 11 against Beckett but give up 16. Then they give up only 4 against a rookie but cannot seem to score.

The Red Sox are clearly the better team right now, the confidence the Yankees had over the years leading into Fenway has gone, this confidence is on their side now. They now they can beat the Yankees, the Bombers are not so convinced about that.

But the best team doesn't always win.

What I'm also convinced of is that some people need to stop writing stupidities right here. I mean, someone wrote "get rid of Jeter, Posada, Mo, A-Rod, Matsui and Damon". I can understand somewhat for 5 of them for different reasons although they don't make sense from an economic standpoint (eating $270, because nobody takes A-Rod at $30M a year. Just for the example). But get rid of MO? Isn't that the stereotype of the overreaction after his blown save the other night? The guy has been the best thing since sliced bread and is a "has-been" for some of you.

Come on guys, start the "Fire Everyone" campaign after at least 50 games.

Brian Danuff said...

Yeah. But you can't really say the Red Sox are the better team because A-Rod isn't back yet and our bullpen is still finding our way. You have to give it at least 50 games like the fire everyone campaign.

Vinsanity13 said...

Yes, Yankeeboy, you may be right about that.

I was just pointing the fact that the Sox seam to have the Yankees number recently. Every dramatic game is won by them.

But yes, I agree, let's all wait for at least 50 games to make any kind of definitive statement.
