News & Notes

- The guys over at The Voice of Yankees Universe have recently added a message board to their site. They have over 150 registered users, all very passionate about our Yankees. Go check it out.

- Happy Birthday to Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira, he turns 29 today. Since starting the season 0-for-8 the birthday boy is 4-for-8, with two double, a homer, two RBI, two walks, and three runs scored.

UPDATE: Mark Teixeira will get the night off for his birthday due to a sore left wrist. Nick Swisher will get the start in his place.

- CC Sabathia is 14-10 with a 3.40 ERA in 31 starts against the Royals. Last season he faced them three times, going 1-2 with a 3.54 ERA

Speaking of CC, check out his new $14.9 million, 12,000 sq. foot mansion in Alpine that he just bought (hat-tip to River Ave. Blues):

More info on the house can be found here.

- Horacio Ramirez is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in five games - three starts - against the Yankees. Last year Ramirez was 0-0 with a 27.00 ERA in two relief appearances against the Yankees. In one inning he's allowed three runs on five hits.

Check out these two great pieces of info from Peter Abraham:

CATCH AS CATCH CAN: Jorge Posada has caught at least one game for 15 straight years. The last man to accomplish that with the same was Johnny Bench with the Reds from 1967-83. Thanks to the Elias Sports Bureau for that one.

THE DISH ON SWISH: When Nick Swisher drove in four runs against Baltimore on Thursday, he was the first Yankee to drive in four or more runs in his first start with the team since Roger Maris drove in four runs on April 19, 1960. Thanks to the Elias Sports Bureau for this one, too.

That's some pretty nice company to be in, ain't it?

Happy birthday Mark! Hopefully CC can give him a win tonight.

Greg Cohen said...

What's up Liam? You watching the Sox game?

Brian Danuff said...

Hey guys! Guess what? Today is my Dad's birthday too, and his name is Mark too!

Greg Cohen said...

Happy Birthday to your dad Yankeeboy.

Brian Danuff said...

Thanks. He's not too excited though. He thinks it's just another number.

Greg Cohen said...

Yea, that's my dad is about birthdays.

Vinsanity13 said...

According to MLB.com, Teixeira is not in the lineup tonight.

It goes :
Jeter SS
Damon LF
Swisher 1B
Matsui DH
Posada C
Cano 2B
Nady RF
Ransom 3B
Gardner CF

So Swisher is in again, but he replaces Tex, not Damon.

Unknown said...

On the YES network they also just said Tex is out of the line-up

Greg Cohen said...

I just changed it guys. Sorry for the delay. Also check out the picture and link to CC's new pad. The place is ridiculous.

This would be a good time for Matsui to start hitting.

Greg Cohen said...

Almost dunked that in their... Now Jorge needs to come through with a 2-out hit.

Greg Cohen said...

Nice Jorge!

2-0 Yanks.

Anonymous said...

Alright, come on CC.

Greg Cohen said...

Nice start CC. Nice start.

dan said...

nice.. we're looking good

Larry Legend said...

YES! Just got home to see our boys up 4-0. WOOOOO!

How does CC look?

Greg Cohen said...

He's been very good. Good velocity (93-97) good movement on his breaking balls, and most importantly he's locating his pitches.

The only baserunner was a hit batsman.

Greg Cohen said...

Hey Dan, how it going?

Yea things are looking good so far.

Larry Legend said...

Nice!

dan said...

much better these past couple of days... when the yanks are winning my life seems so much better... alittle worried about Teixeira tho

how u doing Greg?

dan said...

Rays are losing 5-0 :)

Greg Cohen said...

Me too, do you know how he hurt it? I haven't heard yet. It might have been on the pregame but I missed it.

I'm good, like you, I'm always better when the Yankees are winning.

dan said...

what Kay just said is all I know.. which is nothing

Greg Cohen said...

Yep heard that too. Very strange.

Larry Legend said...

How do you not know how you hurt your wrist? Did he sleep on it wrong?

dan said...

thats what im thinking Larry

Larry Legend said...

It's the only thing I can think of. If that's the case he should be fine.

Greg Cohen said...

Hopefully Larry.

dan said...

nice job getting out of that jam!

Greg Cohen said...

Big time pitching right there.

dan said...

ya gotta love Swisher!!

Greg Cohen said...

He's on fire, it's awesome.... Also nice to see Matsui hit the ball hard the other way.

dan said...

yeah nice piece of hitting there by Matsui... I was starting to think that he should be the odd man out.

Greg Cohen said...

I'm sure you're not alone there. He's been real bad, but it's early. With that said, they really gotta keep Swisher in the lineup.

Liam Gallagher said...

Thats some house that CC has.

They really gotta keep Swish in the lineup while he is still hitting.

Greg Cohen said...

I've driven through that area that in Alpine before. Place is crazy.

dan said...

come on Ransom

Greg Cohen said...

He keeps this up and Ramiro Pena will be starting. If he was hitting it would be one thing, but he's at .063 right now and looks pretty mediocre in the field.

dan said...

let Pena start tmro

Greg Cohen said...

I wouldn't be against it.

jmas12 said...

So how long until Swisher is our everyday right fielder? I know it's a small sample size, but I just think he's good too many advantages over Nady and right now he's showing it. Plus, I had nothing against Nady before the season started but that play in Baltimore where he got picked off third (which may not have been his fault) and just stood there instead of executing the run down really but him on my s*it list.

Greg Cohen said...

I remember you mentioning it that day - that was you right? I don't understand how he could just stand there either.

Either way, if Swisher keeps playing well he gives Girardi no choice but to play him.

Anonymous said...

Ransom is completely lost at the plate, he's swinging when he should take a pitch and he's taking a pitch when he should be swinging.

Greg Cohen said...

Yup he sure is anon - Now batting .059.

Greg Cohen said...

Nice scoop by Swisher to save the shutout.... Ummm, where'd everybody go?

dan said...

Swisher= the OBP King

Greg Cohen said...

Every at-bat he's 3-1, 3-2. The guy sees so many pitches.

Greg Cohen said...

Is it just me or have David Cone and John Flaherty gotten better since last year?

Anonymous said...

They're a little better, but they still suck.

Greg Cohen said...

lol fair enough.

dan said...

i like Kay and Singleton combo the best.. but yes those 2 have gotten better, and the 3 of them do a good job

dan said...

great game CC!

Greg Cohen said...

I'm really happy to see him pitch the way we all knew he could. Now he will take that confidence into opening day. I didn't want to see him head into the opener with two losses under his belt and the media at his throat.

Greg Cohen said...

I don't like this. I know I shouldn't worry, but I don't like this. There is no reason for CC to come out for this inning.

Anonymous said...

I'm with you. This seems pointless to me.

Greg Cohen said...

Oh well, no harm no foul. 108 pitches isn't a big deal.

Anonymous said...

U a dick

Greg Cohen said...

I am? Why?

Anonymous said...

Your a dick thats why

Greg Cohen said...

lol

Anonymous said...

fuck you. It's not funny. U are really a dick. No a fucking bitch.

Anonymous said...

By the way, that other anonymous is not me. I'm the one who agreed with you about Sabathia staying in too long and the one who said Cone and Flaherty still suck.

Greg Cohen said...

Royals fan?

Anonymous said...

CC sucks, so does the Liam CC. That kid is an a-hole.

Greg Cohen said...

Yup, it's a Royals fan.

Anonymous said...

Hell no. Yanks fan. But u and liam are dicks

Greg Cohen said...

I'm sorry you feel that way.

Anonymous said...

fuck you.

Greg Cohen said...

lol

dan said...

what the hell is going on here these last couple of weeks? is that anon/Hitler again causing trouble? just dont even respond to him

DQ

Greg Cohen said...

You're right Dan, I shouldn't. I'm trying not to let it bother me, though.

Unknown said...

Yo Greg, had to drop by n see if you caught what all that banter was about behind home plate with that heckler, i rewound it n turned up the volume to hear what the guy was saying since he was picked up by the mic....

Guy first shouted HEY GEORGE, I FUCKED YOUR WIFE.... pause.... sip..... SHE WASNT VERY GOOD..

said some other stuff then Jorge went over to him, he puffed up n said some stuff about 1230 bring it on lets go..

Pretty funny to hear all that, i dunno how they deal with that stuff.

Greg Cohen said...

Hahahahaha good job Derek. I heard the guy's voice, but couldn't figure out what he was saying.

I have no idea how they deal with that either. It would drive me nuts. I'd end up pulling an Artest.
