Meanwhile, Girardi said he is sticking with Ransom, who is off to a horrendous start. The Yankees chose to stay with the career minor-leaguer Ransom when Alex Rodriguez went down with his hip injury. Ransom has committed an error at third and is just 1 for 20 at the plate.
Any more of this and the Yankees might have to consider allowing Ramiro Pena a shot at filling in.
"I think there's some frustration there. I think he wouldn't be human if there was no frustration," Girardi said of Ransom. "He hit a ball hard on (Saturday) just foul. I mean he hasn't really had any luck. I'm happy with the way he's playing and his effort. It will turn. You know it's going to turn. It's just not fun to start out this way"
How does he "know it's going to turn" around for Ransom? Cody Ransom is a career minor leaguer, maybe there is a reason for that.
Ransom said he believes his luck will turn.Good at-bats? I count one in the last three games; his walk in the seventh inning yesterday. Besides that he's looked completely overmatched."I've hit a lot of balls hard and I've had some good at-bats, I feel like," Ransom said. "I'm not going to change anything. I just hope they start falling."
I hope Ransom can turn things around, but if he can't how long will Girardi wait before making a change?

Pena! Pena!! PENA!!!
Ransom is not the answer. Hes a complete joke. I've seen atleast 4 play that Arod makes if hes in the hot corner. There is a reason why Ransom is 33 has been on all these clubs, and was a back up everytime, he stinks!
Luckily it looks like A-Rod is way ahead of schedule so this might not be a problem for much more time.
hope thats the case Greg, btw love the site. its one of the 1st checks of the day for me when I want to see whats going on.
Thanks Anon, very happy to hear you like the site.
Ransom has to goooooo
He hasn't had any luck because he can't hit breaking balls, which means he is not a Major League hitter. I hate to be so mean, but at least Pena has value in his glove.
I have no illusion whatsoever that Pena would be better offensively but there is no question--none--that he would provide better defense.
BIG MISTAKE by Girardi. boy the guy is sure hard headed. Ramson is an automatic out in that line up. I would give Pena a shot and see what he can do but hey, I'm just a fan right? lol!! Girardi frustrates me sometimes with some of his moves. yesterday being a prime example.
i was a big ransom supporter bc i love his athleticism and i didnt want the yanks to trade away swish for a month fix, but i feel that ransom should have a day or two off to clear his head.. you can see how frustrated he is when he hooks a pitch foul or a fielder cathes one of his liners.. he needs to get away from it for a game or two, let pena start and then they can see from there
Ramson's a joke. Bye-bye Girardi if he keeps this sort of stuff up for a month or two. Not that I'm wishing for it, I'm just sayin'....
Try Pena!
Mike
They guy has played 6 games or 3.7% of the season and you're all already trashing him? Good grief! 6 games does not a season make. By most accounts, Pena's bat is not ML ready. So if you think that Ransom is an easy out, Pena will probably not fair much better. It seems to me that Ransom fairly won the temporary position out of spring training and did fairly well in limited AB's last year too. So, patience please. This is not the end of the world.
Cody Ransom has been around for eight years, and in that time has never shown that his bat was MLB ready.
The thing about Pena is he is a much better defensive player, so even if he doesn't hit, at least he'll save runs with his defense. And I don't know if you've noticed but Ransom hasn't exactly been Brooks Robinson at third this year.
Happy to join the fray here, this totally makes no sense. They should be looking to get Pena some at bats, see what he can hit in the majors and work on his mechanicals and also get him plenty of field time so he can continue to hone his glove skills against major league level blistering infield hits. Put Cano at Third and Pena at Second. If Pena looks good, then move him to short and start Jeter's transition to 2nd base. Or some variation on this. With the lineup performing well enough and Ransom totally useless at the plate this is the time to be experimenting with him while the infield has a hole at 3rd. When ARod is back there will be no opportunity to give Pena any significant major league time.
Once again Giradi proves he sold the Yanks a bill of goods when they interviewed him and he convinced them that he could evaluate and guide young talent to the major leagues. Pena will be not be used properly to Joe is absolutely forced to bring him up.
