Quite simply, CC Sabathia looked like he was overthrowing, and you could tell it from his command. Sabathia's athleticism is such that, 40 years from now, you could probably wake him up as he dozed on his porch and hand him a baseball and he could probably repeat his delivery and throw strikes. And Monday in Camden Yards, Sabathia was badly missing his target, over and over -- and sometimes his arm seemed to lag in his delivery, causing his fastball to fly up and away to right-handed hitters, and when he tried to adjust, he overthrew his breaking stuff down. It's understandable that he might be too amped up for his first start as a Yankee, that would explain the overthrowing, but he's going to have to figure out a way to manage that because it's only going to get worse. Opening day at the New Stadium, his first game in Boston, his first game at home vs. Boston, the Subway Series, etc. I think he'll be fine, he showed many times last year down the stretch that he could be called on to pitch a big game.

If he was trying to do his best than i'm ok with that.
One thing I don't think we can do is question how hard he's trying. That guy put a major contract on the line last year when he kept taking the ball on three days rest for the Brewers.
I am negatively worried... in other words I am glad that that happened since his nerves probably won't get to that point again.
IF!
if he is a head case, a big win on opening day at the stadium should set him on course to dominate the whole season. a loss opening day at the stadium conversely would be a disaster.
CC usually has a couple of bad starts in April. Last year he had four.
