Andy Pettitte improved to 2-0 on the season with seven strong innings last night against the A's. He allowed two runs on nine scattered hits, and he didn't walk or strikeout a batter. Pettitte threw 105 pitches, 67 for strikes. His only rough inning came in the fourth when the A's scored two runs. The A's opened the inning with three consecutive singles by Jason Giambi, Matt Holiday and Jack Cust, Cust's scoring Giambi. A few batters later Kurt Suzuki drove in Holiday with the A's second run.

Brian Bruney came in to pitch the eighth and allowed a run on two hits, it was the first runs Bruney has given up since his first outing of the year back on April 6th. Luckily for him and the Yankees it came in a game when they were up three.

Mariano Rivera came in to shut the door in the ninth, and picked up his fourth save of the year. It was 57th time that Pettitte and Rivera combined for a win and a save, which matches the all-time mark set by Oakland's Bob Welch and Dennis Eckersley.

The Yanks gave Pettitte all the runs he'd need with four in the bottom of the second. Nick Swisher walked and Hideki Matsui doubled to start off the rally, they both scored two batters later when Brett Gardner lined a single past the drawn in infield and it was 2-0 Yanks. (Gardner also made a spectacular catch in center to rob Jason Giambi of what would have been a double in the first inning.) Derek Jeter was next to the plate and singled to put runners on 1st and 3rd, Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira then followed with RBI singles to cap off the rally.

The Yankees added their fifth run on a solo homer by Damon in sixth.

I was at the game and I can't say the stadium is growing on me yet, but there are some things that I do like about the place. Mainly it's the beer in the bleachers and the fact that you can get from one part of the stadium to another fairly quickly. Oh, and the steak sandwich at the Lobel's stand is great. A rip off, but really good. I was sitting in the right field bleachers and the fans out there are still the same, so obviously it was loud out there, but I couldn't tell if the rest of the stadium was loud. The Creatures did do roll call for Jason Giambi, which was pretty cool. There were a lot of empty seats, and even an entire section of the main boxes was completely empty (pictured below). Freddy "Sez" was in the building, and the Yankees put him on that gigantic screen to make sure everyone knew it. Im not sure why everyone is so down on the noise of the stadium. Its the same as the old stadium...If you're in the upper decks or bleachers its going to be loud and people go nuts. The further down you go there people tend to be quieter. I was in the grandstand and it got pretty loud at times (given it was a Tuesday night game). I think it's a great stadium and people need to give it a chance. You want to see a quiet ballpark, go to Citi Field then come back to Yankee Stadium. You'll realize you might be overthinking it. Also, it's pretty cool you can just walk over to the bleachers and get a view of the game over there if you feel like it.

You're right people should give it a chance, but at the same time I can understand why people don't like certain aspects of the new place.

As far as I'm concerned, I think it's a very impressive building, and I won't know if I really love/hate it until I sit in the upper deck. I want to see how the stadium sounds over there.

I'd really like to know what the players truly think, not what they allowed the reporters to quote them on.

I really like the place, but it does seem different, sort of like a "realistic dream"; it's so real and familiar, yet in some small ways it seems different and foreign.

For the most part, it does remind me of the "really old stadium" I went to in the 1960s much more than the rennovated one across the street did.

Time will tell, I suppose.

I hear you. I was in the upper decks last night and I'll tell you it felt pretty much like the old Yankee Stadium. Little differences but still had that Yankee feeling to it. I went with a friend who's a Mets fan and he said he wished Citi would get loud like that stadium. Overall I had a great experience and look forward to going back mid-May. The only thing they need to do is drop prices of those field seats. The upper decks and bleachers were close to full for the most part while there were entire sections by the field that were completely empty. Thats the biggest negative I saw. Everything else I had a pretty good experience.

its awesome, many food choices, and you can stand and watch the game if you want to. what a place !

There is 5000 less seats. A lot of the premium seats around the dugouts are empty and a lot of people are watching in the mohegan sun sports bar and inother suites. So of course it might be not as loud. But people are making too big of a deal. I was at the stadium on Sunday when Posada hit the homerun the place got real loud. Some people are expected it to be as loud like it is game 7 of the ALCS.

It is a great stadium the only thing the yankees need to do it lower the prices of the premium seating. The place will be awesome in October!

I was there on Sunday, too, and yes it did get loud when Posada hit that home run. I think come October the place will indeed rock!

The thing about the old place was it didn't take a home run to get the place loud. It got loud because the fans wanted a home run. It like how Fenway is, they never get loud until something happened.

Anyway, I hope it's just because it's early. I'm very interested to see a Yanks-Red Sox game there.
