News & Notes

***NADY UPDATES***

- As you probably know by now it's very likely that Xavier Nady will need surgery and miss the remainder of the season. If there are any more updates I will post them here.

- The guys over at RAB are reporting that Austin Jackson and Kevin Russo have been lifted from today's SWB Yanks game.

Not sure if this means anything, but based on today's news on Nady it's pretty interesting.

... Now on to the game notes:

- Andy Pettitte is 15-4 with a 3.63 ERA in 24 career starts against the Rays. He is 8-2, with a 3.27 ERA in 12 starts at Tropicana Field. And last year he was 2-2 with a 4.12 ERA in four starts.

- In his career Andy Sonnanstine is 2-1, with a 6.08 ERA in four starts against the Yanks. Last year he was 1-0 with a 10.61 ERA in two starts.

- The Yanks did something very odd with Chien-Ming Wang today. They had him pitch batting practice this afternoon at Tropicana Field. Apparently they wanted him to throw on a major league mound with hitters in the batter box. Hope it works. Here's what David Cone said about Wang's BP session via Pete Abe:
David Cone was standing behind the cage. “He looked good to me because everything was down, even when he missed,” Cone said. “That’s what you want to see from a sinkerball pitcher.”
- Evan Longoria will miss today's game to attend to a family issue in California.

- Today is Jackie Robinson Day throughout the majors and every single person in uniform will be wearing #42 in honor of the man who broke baseball's color barrier.

- About a year ago a caller called in to the Michael Kay show to complain about how many times he says no-hitter, or this pitcher is pitching a no-hitter, etc. Well, like he does when you suggest he's a Yankees fans, he goes crazy. I figured since Burnett had the near no-no yesterday, and, like always, Kay wouldn't shut up about it, today was a good day to post this.

What's wrong with Matsui?

Greg Cohen said...

Not sure, I think they just want to give him a couple days off. It may also have something to do with keeping Posada in the lineup and Molina behind the plate with the Rays being so fast.

the games not on my9

Greg Cohen said...

You're right, I had that still up from yesterday. Its been corrected.

Anonymous said...

Greg, Ive been messing with a yankees blog for months now here on blogspot, how do you post the graphs and charts?

Greg Cohen said...

I copy and paste them from sites like ESPN and MLB.com.

Will said...

This Kay shit is torture. Taking sports waaaaaay too seriously.

Who does Will?

Anonymous said...

I only got to watch Ajs no hitter for an inning but in that inning I counted and heard no hitter 23 times, way to go kay.

Anonymous said...

listened to that kay thing, such a fookin' tool box. Im gunna call in tomorrow and make that agrument again. Kay is a jinx, even the players saw so.

Anonymous said...

Kay is a douche. Kay needs to be locked in a room and they need to throw away the room.

dan said...

anon, u mean they need to the throw away the key?

Will said...

lol "throw away the room"
they should shove waldman and sterling in there first.

ok, im going out on a nazi limb here and suggest this Robinson 42 thing is getting ridiculous. 62nd anniversary? please stop. this is a great way to make something special not special at all. too bad the mets dont carve a 42 in their foreheads.

parking garage lights go out? The Rays should move right now. postpone this game, pack the truck, we'll make it up in Mexico City in September.

Will said...

classic - waldman and sterling worry for 20 min that the lights have gone out at the field. meanwhile their was an award ceremony going on. when the ceremony was over the lights came back on... and then the light went on in waldman and sterling's heads as well... oooooh, the lights were down for the ceremony.

Greg Cohen said...

Hahahahha, I was out for 20 min in the car and heard that.

And I don't think it makes you a Nazi to say that Will.

Anonymous said...

Please don't tell me they're going to make this piece of shit look like a good pitcher.

Anonymous said...

Okay, what happened to having scouting reports? They know this guy throws strikes. Why are they taking the first pitch for a fastball strike right down the middle?!

Greg Cohen said...

I think Kevin Long is too focused on his hard-hit ball chart.

Greg Cohen said...

Pettitte looks good so far.

Anonymous said...

hahaha kay about wakefield "now that we mention it, he's not going to get it. that's what some people believe"

Will said...

this is what i keep thinking every time i here about the Long hard-hit list

Greg Cohen said...

Does Kay realize how much of an ass he sounds like each time he says "it's amazing what kind of power we have up here"?

Will said...

And Suzyn I want you to kiss me!!!!!!

are they going to give an error to bartlett for being a dumb ass?

Anonymous said...

Yanks just got a big break, now they gotta capitalize.

Greg Cohen said...

Hahahah I don't think so Will.

Anonymous said...

Damn it!

Greg Cohen said...

What a great tag by Jeter. BIG PLAY!

Will said...

wow - wish I saw that.

Greg Cohen said...

Swipe tag, just nipped Kapler before he got into third.

Anonymous said...

Way to give away this game Pettitte.

Greg Cohen said...

Relax, it's only the 4th inning.

Will said...

MLB just put up the tag highlight. Big play by Jeter to lunge to make the catch and still get the tag down.

Wack'n Pettitte around a bit here. That sucked.

Will said...

Does Kevin hard-hitter Long get credit for Swisher?

Greg Cohen said...

Has he done anything to change his swing?

Anonymous said...

YEA ROBBIE!!!

Anonymous said...

Upton is such a showboat. Can this fool stop pretending he's Willie Fucking Mays?

Will said...

"Has he done anything to change his swing?"

Sterling said so.

Greg Cohen said...

Hmmmmm... I need a better source than Sterling.

What the hell kind of 2-2 pitch is that? Damn it.

Anonymous said...

Pettitte blows!

Greg Cohen said...

Well that pitch did.

Greg Cohen said...

Wakefield's no-hitter is gone. Kurt Suzuki singled.

Anonymous said...

Way to go Pettitte. Give the momentum and lead back just like last year. I guess it must be the tired arm eh....

Greg Cohen said...

No, he hung a slider.

Anonymous said...

the cowbells need to stop

Greg Cohen said...

They really are stupid and annoying.

Will said...

ah the luxury of having a bullpen - being able to yank your starter after five.

Anon you should have your blood pressure checked.

Will said...

carp. now we have to wait till the 8th. no fair going to the pen in the 6th. Sonnan's pitch count was just getting out of hand.

Anonymous said...

lol really there's a lot of game left let alone a whole season

Greg Cohen said...

Pettitte really hasn't pitched so bad. That one stupid slider to Pena. Oh well, let's get some damn runs.

Will said...

Would you pinch hit Matsui here for Pena - can't be worse than Pena's bat? Then Ransom takes the field in the bottom.

dan said...

hey guys.. just got back from class

yep Will. theres matsui

Will said...

i cant see :(
guess it makes it more interesting for me.

Greg Cohen said...

Hey Dan.

dan said...

hes on the on deck circle will

Greg Cohen said...

What the hell is Gardner swinging at?

dan said...

that would have been ball 4 damn it!

Will said...

fuck. Nelson is a solid pitcher. totally blows. 3-2 is going to be the average score of every Yankee Rays match up. Pettitte has done a fine job - but every run counts in these games.

Will said...

lucky mistake. matsui hasn't hit crap but Nelson pitched around him anyway. that will bring up the top of the order in the 8th, so yanks save an out.

Greg Cohen said...

Yep Will. Unless of course Molina does something.... nevermind, he won't do anything.

Will said...

Balfour really had an uncharacteristic year last year, but he was awesome. F these teams with bullpens. Yankees should hire a sniper.

Greg Cohen said...

Will, are you saying the Yankees don't have a bullpen?

dan said...

" the yankees are trying to lick the rays" michael kay

Greg Cohen said...

Did he really say that? I left the room for a moment.

dan said...

he saw a kid eating ( licking) an ice cream cone and said it..

Greg Cohen said...

What a moron.

Will said...

did I suggest that?
I didn't mean to suggest.

Good pitch count for Pettitte - anon will be flame throwing if this finishes 3-2 - but I dont think you can be disappointed with Pettitte if he clears the 7th. Sannonstuffer (or whatever his name is) however sucks - the lineup should have hit him harder.

Greg Cohen said...

"Sannonstuffer (or whatever his name is) however sucks - the lineup should have hit him harder."

I agree, that's what's bothering me about this game. They made that piece of s*** look like a real pitcher.

Will said...

Waldman: "I dread what is going to happen with the traffic with people trying to figure out how to get into the new place."

Suzyn, its right across the street from the old stadium you dip shit. The parking garages are in the exact same place they were last year.

Someone should create a hateblog for the Yankee announcers and run a campaign to get all of them fired. Or we could get a sniper.

Will said...

Fuck yeah Jeter.

dan said...

nice

dan said...

yea baby!!

Will said...

clutch 2 games in a row. wow. champion material. very good showing against Tampa. Tampa _should_ take 2 out of 3, no good to let the Yankees come in and do this. An Anon somewhere in Tampa is raging. LOL

dan said...

lucky break!

Will said...

IT HIT A PARKING METER!
POS Stadium.

dan said...

come on man

dan said...

come on man

Greg Cohen said...

What has Teixeira been looking at all day?

My goodness.

Will said...

uggghhhhh stooooooooooooooooooop those damn farking bellssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greg Cohen said...

Damn it Swisher.

These two at-bats from Swisher and Tex were absolutely pathetic.

Greg Cohen said...

If the Yankees lose, that's why; runner on second and nobody out and he doesn't freaking move.

Mike B. said...

I can't wait to get home, turn on the Direct TV, and turn off the sound! Kay is such a Richard-head.

Mike

PS I'm sick of the Jackie Robinson stuff, too. It's actually getting pathetic--"The 62nd Year, One Month, Seventh Week, Fourth Day, Eleventh Hour, and 31st Second Anniversary of His Breaking Baseball's Color Barrier." Geez. Talk about trivializing something!

Will said...

yep
ok - I gotta run - friends at roof bar on 32nd st beckon. it was fun. this is a game they could have won - that was ugly from Tex ahead 3-0 - hopefully they pull it out.

Greg Cohen said...

Take it easy Will.

Greg Cohen said...

Wow, Bruney is awesome right now.

Greg Cohen said...

Nice piece of hitting by Ransom.

Greg Cohen said...

THE CAPTAIN COMES THROUGH AGAIN!!!!!

Anonymous said...

WOOOO HOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

What a huge clutch hit for Jeter. Now it's Mo's turn.

Greg Cohen said...

Seriously, he's returned to Captain Clutch form so far this year.

Greg Cohen said...

Great win, thanks for all the comments.

Mike B. said...

It was fun indeed.

Mike

Mike B. said...

I forgot!

Michael Kay is a total pecker-head who needs to be thrown off the air. This guy is a first-class fool and a disgrace to our team. I have the perfect place for him to work--ESPN. Thank God for the mute button.
