Surgery For Nady?

According to Peter Abraham, there is word circulating that Xavier Nady will need surgery and miss the rest of the season. There is no official word yet, but there's probably a lot of truth to this rumor. UPDATES COMING........

(hat-tip to SteveB for giving me the heads up on this)

Here's another update from Pete Abe:
We just spoke to Nady. He didn’t want to say too much until he sees the team doctor in NYC tomorrow. But he indicated that the MRI showed a tear and surgery will be needed.
I think it's safe to say we won't see Nady play again this year. Tough break for the X-Man.

If Nady does go down I am extremely happy we kept Swisher. As I said, I think Swisher is superior to Nady and I think Nady only got the starting job because Girardi knows him(eerruuumm Something Joe T use to do). Maybe this opens the door for A-Jax?

Its not a bad loss if Nady goes down, Swish will do that job.

I feel bad for Nady the guy is in his last year in his contract. He is a good player this kills are depth.

Thanks Yes Mem dynasty for the sig. You're right about Swisher, and aren't we lucky we didn't trade him?

Anon,

I feel bad for him too, not only is this going to cost him the season, but a ton of money on the FA market next year.

I don't think it "kills" our depth but it deffinatly hurts it a bit. This is when Melky needs to earn his keep and produce some numbers. Remember Melky was out 5th OF'er behind Swish; now he's our 4th. I hope AJax gets hot and gets the call-up. There is also Frank Catalonotto(spelling is butchered) who is out there, if things get bad maybe pick him up (as he been signed?). Although losing Nady hurts, I dont think its going to hurt as much as people think.

Call up Jackson for a month. Play him in the field and let him hit some major league pitching until ARod is back. Once ARod is back you make the call if Jackson is good enough to keep in the field and Swish in the DH and who knows what you do with Matsui - or Jackson goes back down Swish plays the field and Matsui is back at DH.

We should have traded Nady in the offseason. I can't believe we traded 4 players for a player that is now hurt and a lefty specialist that isn't one. This is just more horrible decisions by the FO. They make trades that they shouldn't and dont make trades that they should.

And, it can't open the door for Ajax becuase he needs to play everyday in AAA unless they want to stunt his growth.

There were rumblings that Jackson could be up by the ASB

Melky is not a everyday player. The role he is in right now is perfect. Putting him in everyday he will get exposed.

Austin Jackson still has to learn to hit breaking balls better. The yankees would be stupid to call him up, let him devolop and not rush him.

Maybe the yankees call up Shelly Duncan he did have a good spring.

there's always freakin something isn't there?

No way do I bring up AJax. He is NOT ready. He needs the whole season in SWB. He is showing his talent like he did last season, but he still strikes out too much. MLB pitchers will find his weak spot and kill him, then you have a setback you don't want with this kid.

SteveB said...

Give him the season in AAA & bring him up for a cup o coffee in September.

A-JAX would be a terrible callup, not only do you start his arbitration clock early but he's nowhere close to being ready.. all a callup for him does is hurt his confidence, bc when he hits .100 bc of his lack of familiarity with the major league game (which is incredibly different from the AA and low A game) all that will do is make him doubt his talent.

you sign a OFer or just use melky as the backup and callup a backup infielder like berroa (who can start at 3rd for a little until arod comes back) and then send someone down when arod comes back.

whoever said that the yankees FO is stupid for trading 4 guys for an injured OFer is just plain dumb. how was it a bad move? bc it gives us an extra good arm in the pen (so what if he isnt lights out like mo.. who is?) or a solid bat that carried us for a couple of weeks last summer (hitting something like 6 homers to either tie or give the yanks the lead). how the hell were they supposed to know that he would get injured on april 14, 2009?

think before you make an ill-advised comment like that

Hmmm, well as I said earlier I'm sure glad we have Swisher. Bummer on Nady--I wonder if we got damaged goods with him? No matter.

I'll say this--I don't think Melky is the answer. Perhaps we'll call someone up at some point.

I hope A-Rod gets back soon. As any of you might recall, he's not my favorite player or human being, but I'm rooting for him to help the team.

On another note, will any of you mugs be at the games Friday and/or Sunday? I'll be at both, so if any of you guys will be there maybe we can meet up for a beer and some Yankee talk!

This is terrible news. I personally do not think Nady is as good as Swisher but he is a solid player. And losing a solid player to be replaced with the likes of a Milk Boy is not good news no matter how you look at it. Ajax will not be called up until september so stop with the nonsense. We will just bring up Rodriguez in the mean time until we Arod is back. Then we will send Rodriguez and Peña down and replace them with Robertson and a better replacement outfielder.(Keeping Ransom and Peña is not out of the question.)
