5/10 Minor League Report

================

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will
post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

(AAA) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (23-7) lost to Louisville 3-0: Box Score - Recap

PITCHING: Kei Igawa got the start for the Yanks. Igawa shutout Indy thru 8 innings on 5 hits, but did not figure in the decision. It was easily his best game of the year. Igawa worked out of a jam in the 1st when he gave up a double and walk. In the 2nd, he gave up a single, but Austin Jackson threw the runner out at 2nd trying to stretch it into a double. Igawa worked out of another jam in the 3rd when he gave up a single and walk. He threw perfect 4th & 5th innings. Igawa tossed a scoreless 6th allowing a single. He was perfect in the 7th and tossed a scoreless 8th allowing a single. Igawa's line: 8.0 IP, 0 runs, 5 hits, 2 K--2 walks

BULLPEN: David Robertson relieved Igawa. He threw a scoreless 9th giving up a single and picking up 2 K's. Robertson threw a scoreless 10th stranding a runner at 2nd after a single, stolen base, and walk. He added another strikeout. He got a quick out to start the 11th before giving up a single and walk. He was relieved by Mark Melancon in the 11th with 1 out and 2 runners on 1st and 2nd. He gave up a 3-run homer to the 1st batter he faced that gave Indy a 3-0 win.

OFFENSE: Ramon Ramirez started for Indy and matched Igawa with zeros for 8 innings on only 4 hits. SWB could not manage a hit over the last 3 innings off Indy's bullpen. The Yanks had a threat in the 3rd when Juan Miranda walked and Austin Jackson singled. A DP by Chris Malec ended the inning. In the 3rd Luis Nunez was stranded at 2nd after a double. In the 4th, Miranda was HBP, Jackson singled, but again no runs.

NOTES: Josh Towers picked up as a minor league free agent for rotation, and will make his 1st start Monday. Chien-Ming Wang could be a possible starter Tuesday as SWB returns home. Shelley Duncan to the DL with a sore shoulder. Eric Duncan slumping badly, had 3 strikeouts. He's 0-25 and his average has fallen to .218.

Hate to say it but I really couldn't care what Jackson is hitting, he needs more time. I don't want to see him rushed. Hughes was rushed, Kennedy was rushed... and they're struggling with consistency. I don't want to see Jackson go through the same thing because the front office misjudges their readiness on a small sample size.

I didn't say they should call him up, I'm just updating people on what he's hitting.

There is absolutely no reason to rush Austin Jackson with the way the Yankee OF has hit the ball. He will be given a look in September and most likely will be our starting LF or CF depending if the Yankees retain Melky starting next season. Damon should return as a part time OF and mostly DH, on a two year deal probably. Matsui will leave via free agency, probably to a place like Seattle or L.A.

I totally agree. Nobody is saying they should rush him.
