5/17 Minor League Report

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will
post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

(AAA) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (26-10) beat Columbus 3-0 in game 1: Box Score - Recap

PITCHING: Chien Ming Wang made his 2nd rehab start for SWB. He pitched very well shutting out Columbus 3-0 on 4 hits. He was very economical throwing only 75 pitches. He hit 91 with his fastball. In his 2 rehab starts Wang has thrown 13 shutout innings, allowing 7 hits.

1st Inning: Wang tossed a perfect 1st with a strikeout, a groundout back to Wang, and aTravis Hafner groundout to short. Wang hit 91mph with his fastball in the inning. 11 pitches--8 strikes.

2nd Inning: Wang threw a clean 2nd inning, but his pitches were up more in the strikezone. He got a lineout to 1st, flyout to center, popout to short. 10 pitchs--6 strikes.

3rd Inning: Wang got a quick groundout to 2nd, a single to leftfield was erased on a DP to 2nd. He threw 9 pitches--6 strikes. Thru 3 innings, 30 pitches - 20 strikes.

4th Inning: Wang tossed another perfect inning. He got a lineout to 1st, and groundouts to 1st and 2nd. 8 pitches--6 strikes.

5th Inning: A leadoff double was stranded at 3rd when Wang threw 2 groundouts and a shallow flyout to right. 10 pitches--8 strikes. Thru 5 innings, only 48 pitches--34 strikes.

6th Inning: Wang tossed another clean inning, working out of the stretch position. He got 2 groundouts to 3rd and short, and a flyout to left. 11 pitches--7 strikes.

7th Inning: Wang worked out of a jam when he gave up 2 cheap hits. A broken bat single to center by Travis Hafner and a swinging bunt. He threw 16 pitches, 8 for strikes.

Wang's line: 7.0 IP, 0 runs, 4 hits, 1 strikeout--0 walks. 75 pitches--49 strikes, 12 groundouts - 8 flyouts.

OFFENSE: The Yanks gave Wang a 2-0 lead in the 1st. Todd Linden singled, Shelley Duncan followed with a 2-run homer (11). Todd Linden hit a solo homer (5) in the 3rd to give the Yanks a 3-0 lead.

Brian Bruney made a rehab start for SWB. He gave up 1 run in the 1st inning. An infield hit, groundout, flyout to shallow right field, stolen base, an RBI double gave Columbus a 1-0 lead. He ended the inning with a strikeout on a high fastball. Bruney's fastball topped out at 94 mph. Bruney threw 17 pitches - 12 strikes.

Josh Towers who was the scheduled starter, took over in the 2nd inning and was very good. Towers pitched shutout ball for 6 innings, allowing only 2 singles and a walk. He forced 3 DPs.

Anthony Claggett came on to pitch the 8th and gave up 1 run to give Columbus a 2-1 win. Claggett took the loss (3-2)

OFFENSE: Eric Duncan hit a solo homer in the 4th (1) for the only SWB run of the game.

NOTES: Brian Cashman was at the doubleheader to see Wang and Bruney pitch. Juan Miranda out with a back problem. Romulo Sanchez was added to SWB roster, Eric Wordekemper sent back to Trenton. Shelley Duncan leads league with 11 homers. Duncan is tied with Todd Linden for the league lead in RBI with 32.
