5/3 Minor League Report

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will

(AAA) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (18-4) beat Norfolk 11-7: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yankees defeated the Norfolk Tides (Orioles) by a score of 11-7 in the finale of their 4-game series. SWB took the series 3-1. The win ups the Yanks record to 19-4.

PITCHING: Eric Hacker had a rough 2nd start for SWB. He threw a scoreless 1st inning after giving up a leadoff walk. Hacker worked out of a jam in the 2nd, giving up a double and HBP In the 3rd inning, Hacker blew a 4-0 lead. Norfolk scored 4 runs on 5 singles and a sac fly to tie the game at 4. He gave up the go ahead run in the 4th on 2 singles, sac bunt, and rbi sac fly to give Norfolk a 5-4 lead. Hacker finished strong throwing perfect 5th & 6th innings.

Hacker's line: 6.0 IP, 5 runs, 8 hits, 1 K--2 walks, 101 pitches--58 strikes, 9 groundouts--5 flyouts.

BULLPEN: Eric Wordekemper came on to pitch the 7th and blew the 7-5 lead, giving up a 2-run homer to tie the game at 7. Wordekemper got the 1st batter out in the 8th before being relieved.

Brett Tomko relieved Workekemper with 1 out in the 8th. He flirted with disaster giving up a walk and double, but picked up 2 K's to get out of the inning. Tomko threw a perfect 9th to pick up his 3rd save.

OFFENSE: The offense bailed out the pitchers. The Yanks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 2nd. Juan Miranda walked, Austin Jackson singled. Chris Stewart and Chris Malec had RBI singles. John Rodriguez added a 2-rundouble. SWB regained the lead in the 4th with 3 runs. Stewart walked, Luis Nunez singled. Doug Bernier had a 2-run triple. Todd Linden added a RBI single to give SWB a 7-5 lead. The Yanks broke the 7-7 tie in the 7th. Shelley Duncan singled and stole 2nd. Then Jackson got the go ahead RBI on a double to give SWB an 8-7 lead. The Yanks blew the game open with 3 runs in the 8th to give them an 11-7 lead. Linden's base loaded 3-run double was the key blow.

NOTES: Anthony Claggett is back up to NY to take the place of the injured Damaso Marte. George Kontos was promoted to SWB from AA Trenton. Kevin Russo is off the DL. Juan Miranda made two fine plays at 1st base in this game. Austin Jackson and Shelley Duncan stole bases on Orioles catching phenom Matt Wieters.

Gotta feel bad for a guy like Tomko... Dude pitches Gem-Riffic Baseball from day 1 and they continue to call up guys like Claggett to get hammered. We're gonna miss him come June 1st.

Tomko should have made the roster out of spring training.
