Bruney told the Post he came to the decision after playing catch this morning in Texas. Bruney, who is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA, was hoping to pitch in today's game against the Rangers New York Rangers.I guess this is the smartest thing they could do. Hopefully he ends up fine and can get back in a few weeks.
"There's something they are not finding yet," Bruney said. "Something is not going away. We got to get it right."
From Sam Borden:
Brian Bruney knows what the tests say and he knows what the doctors say. He also knows his right arm still hurts. At this point, though, with no clear diagnosis of a medical malady, Bruney has decided to pitch through the pain. An MRI and arthrogram came back clean, so despite a nagging discomfort when he throws, the right-handed reliever expects to be back in the Yankees bullpen for this afternoon's Memorial Day matinee in Texas. The article did say that Bruney said that his agent, Terry Boss was hoping to get a second opinion on the pitcher's MRI results, but based on this article I don't think that will stop Bruney from trying to pitch.
After playing catch yesterday morning, Bruney was asked to describe the pain he feels and shook his head in frustration. "I wouldn't know how to tell you if it was a toothpick in my arm or an ice pick or firecrackers," Bruney said. "It just doesn't feel right; it's not something that I've ever felt before."
...
"This is my 10th year of professional baseball, all out of the bullpen, so maybe that's just what I am," Bruney said. "Maybe my arm is just going to bother me."
I've heard of certain pitchers pitching with "normal" pain throughout their careers, so like Bruney said maybe his arm is just going to bother him, but I'm still a little concerned. Bruney is a huge piece to that bullpen puzzle and the most important thing is having him healthy down the stretch. If that means he needs an extra week of rest now then it's worth it.

What do you guys think, is Bruney doing the right thing playing through the pain?

I think at this time and moment its better for him to take a week or 2 now rather then 60 days in the late summer. We need Brian and if he's not feeling comfortable weshould give him the time he needs to get better. For a guy that never felt pain in his pitching elbow, to suddenly feel something out of the blue is very odd and should be looked out more closely till they can figure out whats going on.

i think its imperitative we trade for a set up guy.
I agree that I would rather lose him for 15 more days now than a long time later. They should get a second opinion on this. He is a very important part of that bullpen.
I don't understand this exactly. If there isn't any damage or anything that would become worse from pitching through it, then yes, he should go ahead and pitch.
But if its something that could worsen then he should shut it down and get it fixed.
Melky dominance should be a lesson to all yankee fans. You need to be patient with young players. Everybody wanted Melky traded after last season.
Don't know if you guys noticed, but the post has been updated and Bruney is in fact headed back to the DL.
Hey Greg,
I just wanted to let you know the last few times I tried to load the page it would not load, then when it did Norton Antivirus told me there were unsecure scripts on the page. It does not read it at as a major threat, just thought I'd let you know. Might be an ad or something causing it.

The funny thing with Bruney is you couldn't even tell he was injured he looked great in his one appearance after the DL.
Yankees should trade for Huston Street. The rockies are horrible they dont need him and yanks have enough prospects in there system to make a deal.
We need a setup guy who can close games when Mariano need a day off. Huston Street is perfect for that role.
Anon,
That's strange. How's the page loading now?
everything seems to be fine, Norton went from Red to Green which means theres no threats. Its happened to me on some other blogs, I think it mainly has to do with the advertising.
Coop.
They need to figure out what is wrong with Bruney asap and get him back soon.
He shouldn't be playing if he's hurt. Good move. I wonder who is going to be called up.
It will probably be Edwar or Albaladejo. I'd much rather see Melancon or Robertson get another chance, though.
anyone but Edwar please!!!!!!!!
