News & Notes
- In 17 starts against the Rays A.J. Burnett is 8-4, with a 2.94 ERA. This year he's 1-0 in one start, in eight innings Burnett allowed two runs on three hits, walked one and struck out nine.
A Tale of Two A.J.'s: Burnett has been two different pitchers this season. Over his first two starts he went 2-0, with a 2.70 ERA. In 13.1 IP he allowed four runs on ten hits, walked two and struck out 15. In his next three starts he's 0-0, with a 7.36 ERA. In 18.1 IP he's allowed 15 runs on 19 hits, walked 11, and struck out just ten.
- Andy Sonnanstine is 2-1, with a 5.65 ERA in five starts against the Yankees. However, he has been very good at the old stadium, going 2-0, with a 2.57 ERA. Hopefully that does not continue tonight. He's faced the Yankees once this year and got a no decision. In five innings he allowed two run on four hits, walked one and struck out three.
- Melky Cabrera has a nine game hitting streak.
- Robinson Cano is 0 for his last 12.
- According to Pete Abe, the Yankees coaches just had a big meeting today at 3:00 p.m., and that was followed by a meeting with the pitchers.

AJ & Andy need to show up big time. I want to see 7-8 quality innings from both of them.
If not now, when?
Greg, I got you another hat-tip on my posting of today on Raissman's article. What a terrible job by YS security last weekend!!
Looking at the radar, it might turn really nasty tonight.
I know a lot of you Yankee fans have been frustrated with the Bombers' performance the past 3 games, and you have a lot of good reasons to. But don't get so down on the Yanks! We will be division champs by the time all is said and done, and we will be heading down for a ticker-tape parade in November soon enough...
VOTE SWISHER 2009! http://voteswisher.com/
So Giradi sat across and empty conference table looking at Tony Pena, cause he's the only coach there.
Any guess on Cervelli's first game? Maybe they run Molina out there until the afternoon Sunday game?
Why does Dave Eiland have a job?
We're making Sonnanstine look like Josh Beckett...pathetic
Josh Beckett isn't that good. More like a Halladay.
capone your right we are amking andy sonnanstine look more like nolyan ryan...i heard that ramiro pena made a error in the 1st what happened?
CAN THIS BE THE TEX'S MOMENT? THEY JUST PLAYED GIAMBIS' PLEASEEEE!
Bases loaded for Teixeria, what we got him for. Guaranteed he fucking blows it like everything else so far in his Yankee career.
If he makes out, everyone will say 'Oh he's a slow starter, it's only May 6.'
How much longer can that excuse be valid for?
And if he does get a hit. We'll have everyone saying "Told you so." Finally
HEY JOE WE TOLD YOU SO.
Damn. hopefully this is his turnaround moment. that was awesome
This will forever be known the night Mark Teixeira earned his pinstripes.
Game will resume at 10:25.
And yes I'm here.
Heyo Phil Coke thanks for getting it over with on the first pitch at least.
Hey that's alright Mark we don't want to ask TOO much of you tonight.
how predictable... saw that one coming
man they suck
#1 has there been a game yet w/o a HR @ our new dump?
#2 team is in disarray, no help in sight, because our farm system is so robbed of talent, because we keep signing other teams losers....
& cashman & the scouts obviously can't scout & develope talent anymore...
Like I said, Girardi is dead man.
Can one young pitcher come through in the clutch this year? Apparently not. Cashman has done a crap job putting this team together and once again the bullpen and bench suck. Get ready for a whole season of bad losses and empty legends seats. It is enough to make a guy root for the Padres...
If big George were still running things all hell would be breaking loose, in a good way
Hey people, just got home from a cold night in the bronx. About to post the minor league report in the next 15 min. Very bummed out right now. Alright, that's all I have to say right now.
By the way, thanks a lot Steve.
OK, that's not entirely true. I got home about an hour ago, but I had to have a few beers and watch TV to clear my mind. But like I said, I'm still pretty down right now.
Greg I was there, tonight HURT ... Tex finally got that big hit, and Coke all he had to do was make one mistake to Pena .. boom there goes our night. I must say though the yanks are getting no breaks that teams get. That ground rule double would have been triple easy, the one by Damon ... This team is going to be the death of me. Also, this team needs to turn it around .. FAST ... Every loss now is one less we can not afford down the stretch.
Hey Rob,
Yea tonight was a bastard of a loss. A real kick in the balls. And it's because we all thought they had it after Teixeira's double.
The worst part of the loss is that the hit is now meaningless because of his at-bat in the 10th. Runner on third, one out, in a one run game... and he pops out weakly to short right field. Talk about deflating.
I have a lot more to say about this game, but I'm going to save it for the game summary.
this game leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. The yanks just cant catch a break. They have lost so many games already from the 7th inning on...i wonder if its starting to get in there head.As a team they must feel so deflateing when they suffer a lose like they did...Ha damon told yanks skipper at the beggining of the season that he played a role in getting tex here so hopefully the yanks could reward him with a extension when his contract is over.sorry im sick of how he handicaps the yanks in the outfield.this guy always looks like hes going to fall backwards when catching a routine fly. am i the only one that see's that? rountine flys shouldnt be a adventure.its always like that for him!
stay positve yanks things will get better
Joe Girardi--dead man walking.
The coaches, too (except Pena).
Can someone help us?
Mike
