News & Notes

- As you know Alex Rodriguez was activated for tonight's game.

- Jose Molina was put on the DL today, Kevin Cash was added to the roster in his place.

- Mark Melancon was optioned down to Triple-A Scranton.

- Bad news Ian Kennedy. He has an aneurysm and is headed for surgery in New York on Tuesday.

- Robinson Cano is 1 for his last 21.

- I know I shouldn't even post something as disgraceful as this, but if it adds to your hatred for the Red Sox and their fans than I guess I've accomplished what I was looking for. Check out this tattoo on the arm of a Red Sox fan that was posted over at New York Sports Jerk today. It is one of the most pathetic and disturbing displays of fandom I've ever seen. Way to take things to a new all time low Boston fans.

Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section

Opening Day rematch, hopefully we come out on top this time.

This is the man

Alex looks like he hasn't missed a beat.

A-rod's the man! go yankees!! :D

How big is that empire's zone? Sabathia and Guthrie will have no problem strking out batters with this kind of help!

Anyway, great to have Alex back, hope the hard time is behind him (except for Fenway of course).

Hey guys,

Talk about the potential turn around game coming together for the Yanks here. A-Rod hits a 3-run bomb in his first at-bat and CC is pitching like CC.

Just don't screw it up.

A few tac on runs would be very nice.

Greg Cohen said...

By the way, I was out at a bar for the first five and a half innings, and just got home, which is why I was unable to comment as things were happening.

And Johnny Damon tacs on a run with an RBI double, 4-0 Yankees.

The Yanks do look good today, Greg, but Teixeira is still hopeless.

Greg Cohen said...

True, anon.

Anonymous said...

CC!

Greg Cohen said...

What's that now, 16 in a row?

Thank goodness the real CC finally showed up. Still hitting 95 in the 8th... Just beautiful pitching.

Anonymous said...

Greg, where is everyone tonight?

Greg Cohen said...

I wish I knew. It only seems to get busy here when the Yankees lose. Then people have a lot to say, which is understandable.

Brian Danuff said...

Hey guys. I was out having a catch with my pops, and I was watching the game in the living room. CC has been amazing, and A-Rod hasn't skipped a beat.

What did I tell ya? I said once A-Rod came back we would go on a tear, and through 1 game, I've been right.

Brian Danuff said...

Almost, at least. Runners on 1st and 2nd, none out in the bottom of the 9th. Come on CC, finish them off!

Greg Cohen said...

Hey YB,

CC needs to finish this one off, a DP would be great right here, but Jones is very fast so that's unlikely.

Damon sucks at fielding

Greg Cohen said...

You're right, he's been absolutely awful in left this year.

Anonymous said...

nice K!!

Brian Danuff said...

Strrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiike 3!

Greg Cohen said...

Yup that was huge. Like Kay said, I really like how he and Cervelli are working together.

Brian Danuff said...

This is the outing that will get CC going. He'll heat up and be great for the rest of the year like when he was in Milwaukkee.

Brian Danuff said...

BALLGAME OVER! YANKEES WIN! THAAAAAAAAAAAA YANKEES WIN!

Start spreading the news...

Greg Cohen said...

YES CC!!!

THAT'S WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR.

Nice game, nice effing game.

Anonymous said...

Let's start it!!

Brian Danuff said...

What a game. A-Rod has a picture-perfect return, and CC pitches a gem!

This is the game that will get the Bombers started, I feel it.

Greg Cohen said...

Talk about getting exactly what the doctor ordered. Great job by CC. That's why they signed him.

Brian Danuff said...

Wow. That's weird. Anyone still watching YES? They just showed the 2007 Yankees ad with Giambi and Moose still in it.

I've seen it this year a couple times, but I still find it weird whenever it's on.

Mike B. said...

Superb performance by CC!

I thought I was asking a lot when I said today that I was hoping for 8 innings and two or less runs. I guess I wasn't.

Will said...

So pretty good. Not to be the nay sayer, but they did just cream one of the worst teams in baseball. Losing this series would be dispicable. If they sweep then maybe there can be some talk of turn around. I'm sure alix feels preety jacked - I'm glad for him - the media is a bunch of morons.

Will said...

Alex :)

Joe said...

Very uplifting win, we needed that after the past few days. Alex not necessarily "clutch" but hits the biggest home run of the Yankee season so far.

When will it be acceptable to just get rid of Teixeira and just bring up Juan Miranda.

Scott_in_Sacramento said...

Did I hear right... did Alex hit a HR on the first pitch he saw? (sorry didn't get to see or listen to the game) If so, that is awesome. Complete game for CC, even better.

Liam Gallagher said...

Yes, it's true Scott, and CC did very good tonight.

Greg Cohen said...

Regardless of the team they beat - and you're right Will, the O's do suck - this was a big win. The Yankees needed it badly and CC performed, and so did A-Rod.

Liam Gallagher said...

It's good to have A-Rod back, but I think no one knew he would hit a homer, good job.

Greg Cohen said...

Hey Liam, welcome back. Where've you been?

Liam Gallagher said...

Playing baseball.

Greg Cohen said...

Nice.

By the way, did anyone else like the fire Cervelli showed behind the plate? I know I did.

Liam Gallagher said...

Cervelli sick. Don't know why people don't like him much. He's 22or something.

Brian Danuff said...

If Posada is limited to DH duties next year, and if Jesus Montero isn't ready, I think Cervelli behind the plate wouldn't be a bad option.

Liam Gallagher said...

Montero won't be ready. They wouldn't rush him.

Anonymous said...

Shelly Duncan is hitting 333 with 10 home runs @ Scranton.

They need to send down Berroa or Pena and bring up Shelly.

The bench needs a power bat.

Greg Cohen said...

Couldn't agree more, Anon.

Brian Danuff said...

Whoa! He is Anon? That's sick! Screw Berroa bring him up right now.

Greg Cohen said...

You have to love Cervelli after the game saying "the season starts today."

This is a 23-year-old kid who just got his first MLB hit and he's talking like a team leader. Just awesome.

Anonymous said...

Cervelli did a nice job, he is a good defensive catcher. But he cant hit I mean the guy was hitting 190 at Trenton. I think Kevin Cash will catch more games than Cervelli until Posada comes back.

Greg Cohen said...

You're right Anon. All I'm saying is I like the fire he's showing, I never said he could hit.

Anonymous said...

Kind of off topic but terrible news for Ian Kennedy. I hope he has a speedy recovery, he was pitching very well at Scranton.

Anonymous said...

Cervelli play, game calling and fire just shows you how bad Posada is and has been killing us for years. Hopefully the dumb Yankees FO will learn something and not pound a round peg in a square hole. We need youth and passion bad. These old men make me sick.
