News & Notes
- Happy Birthday to Yogi Berra, he turns 84 today.
- Derek Jeter was scratched with an oblique strain. He issued a statement through the team saying, “I’m a little sore right now. Obviously I’m not in the lineup but I hope to be in there tomorrow.”
- A.J. Burnett has made just one start against the Blue Jays, and it came back in 2001. He went nine innings, allowing just one run on two hits, walked one, and struck out three in a win. His lifetime record at Rogers Centre is 22-8, with a 3.74 ERA.
- Roy Halladay has owned the Yankees throughout his career. In 32 games (30 starts) he's 15-5, with a 2.86 ERA. Last season he was 5-1, with a 2.40 ERA in six starts against them.

UPDATE 8:21 p.m.: Hideki Matsui left the game with tightness in his hamstring. These injuries are really becoming ridiculous.
Stick around and discuss the game

how do u post these charts, i stopped my blog bc whenever i tried it came out all jumbled, i copy and paste and they still come out in one big vertical column

I tough it out. Sometimes an html code is needed.
All I do is copy and paste them from ESPN, then I'll adjust the size but that's it.
see i would do that, copy and paste, adjust the size by tabbing out the stats, then it would just post all clustered.
Jeter scratched with strained oblique
Poor Gardner could Girardi give him a start when someone like Adam Eaton was pitching and not Roy Halladay.
Fire the conditioning coach. This is a joke.
Jeter scratched, Pena takes his place.
That makes a brutal lineup:
Gardner CF
Damon LF
Teixeira 1B
Rodriguez 3B
Matsui DH
Cano 2B
Cabrera RF
Cash C
Pena SS
Does anybody think this lineup stands a chance against Doc Halladay?
Go Bombers. We're up for a long long night.
Maybe A.J. shows Doc he's taught him well. There's a chance this turns into an old-fashion pitchers' duel, if A.J. pitches the way he did in his first 2 starts.
woot the old blue jays logo - so much better than their stupid silver J logo. i can't understand why the changed that at all.
I was a long time blue jay fan a long time ago in an upstate city far far away. Went to the all start game where Ripken hit the home run, and the World Series against the Phillies. Those were very good teams with Joe Carter and Jimmy Key.
How'd you become a Yankee fan?
I went to Yankee Stadium.
*cries*
Will...
Worst day of my life was when the Syracuse Chiefs switched affiliations from the Yankees to the Blue Jays.
Fragile old men.
Yea, I like the old logo so much better. Also, they've been playing like the '92-'93 Jays lately.
Hey guys i think we can get a win tonight. A.J dont give up more then 2runs tonight.
He was safe.
i agree greg he was safeeeeeee he just got in.
wow they really boing the crap out of burnett.
My family and I are leaving for Disney World thrusday, and I'm so excited! (I may be 12, but I'ven ever been there before) We're staying for 8 days, so I won't see you guys for a while.
He needs a strike out here.
Yeah. Oh crap. 3-1.
Shitake mushrooms
He's overthrowing.
Fucking shit.
Aaaand this game's over 6.5 back.
If it makes you guys feel better Wang is pitching very well for Scranton tonight.
Phil Hughes pitched well for Scranton too.
It's still better than if he was pitching poorly.
Maybe he should stay down there, at least they have a record above .500
What I don't understand is why this team can never get off to a start the way the Blue Jays have this year. Granted, the Jays may not last but still, the Yankees have to dig themselves out of a hole every single year.
Injuries are a big part of it this year.
AROD IS A F'N CURSE. JETER GETS HURT, MATSUI WILL BE ON 15 DAY DL. POSADA GETS HURT JUST THINKING ABOUT AROD RETURNING. THIS IS JUST TERRIBLE.
Yea last year too and why? Because this team is full of old men, it's pathetic. They don't even have a home field advantage anymore because the new stadium SUCKSSSS.
It's not only the older players that are getting hurt. Nady is 30, Wang is 29, Bruney is 27, not really old.
Either way, Halladay is ridiculous.
is it me or this ump has missed major strike calls right down the middle for a.j?
i hope we are getting all these injuries out of the way early this year...wtf!
The umps have been terrible all year for everyone.
All things considered Burnett is pitching pretty good so far.
Yea, I just wish the Yankees could start avoiding these big innings. It seems that ever game the pitchers are having that one big inning that really hurts them.
What was the point of starting Cash over Cervelli? Cervelli has been solid behind the plate and had been swinging a good bat.
No idea.
It's still early. We may have had a lot of injuries, but there's no need to worry - unless the Yankees are still under .500 by the end of June.
4-1. Uhhhhhhhhhhh.
That should just about do it. And that should do it for the idea that Burnett pitched well. Three runs on eight I can accept, not four.
You might want to give him the hook Joe.
Put Veras in.
5-1.
Can the optimists get back to reality here?
The Yankees do everything wrong, yet they're convinced that the Yankees will turn around and make the playoffs. Fact is, stop it with the "small sample sizes," and "he'll come through." I hope I'm wrong but until they turn around, which they very well may not, they a bad team. Enough with the excuses, already. The Yanks are just as bad as your average 15-17 team until they put up more wins than those teams. The Yankees are not an exception to the list of bad teams just because they're the Yankees, and a team as expensive as this one should not be 15-17 in the first place. You people can be so ignorant at times. This is not the same team as 2003.
Anonymous, we're fans, we want our team to win. We're going to root for them to win, and we hope that they do. If you don't think they have a chance why are you wasting your time following the team?
I know the Yankees are stinking right now, but there's no need to loose hope now. If they are still struggling by the All-Star break, then you have a good point to loose faith. But in the middle of May, come on, that's not who Yankee fans are. Real fans never loose hope.
Another TERRIBLE game. I don't know why in the world the Yankees would invest so much in a pitcher(burnett) who's ERA was over 4.00 last year and is injury prone.
The make up of this team is really terrible. Can we all admit that were done this season?
Done this season on May 12th?
Hahahahaha
Really starting to regret the Burnett signing.. he is not good. He never really has been it was just a bad idea. Gonna be another long season. It's funny after the Yankees lost the 2001 series and signed Giambi I joked that it was gonna turn into the 80s all over again.. I just never thought I would be right.
Matsui hurt huh? Everyone keeps saying that we need to wait until the team is healthy to really judge Girardi. Well based on the past the Marlins got healthy eventually, the year after Girardi was fired.
Greg, I follow them because no matter how bad they are, I'll never stop watching. It's just that so many Yankee fans go out of their way to pretend the team is just as elite as the Red Sox or even the Blue Jays. I hope we turn a corner, but the fact is that we are just as bad as the Mariners, and an expensive team should not have slow starts. Stop pretending we are elite when we are not.
But as I said, I'll still watch the games no matter what. I'm just more realistic than these Yankee homers who think the team will win 100 games and will automatically turn the corner.
I still follow the Isles and Knicks, don't I.
Danny,
That is true, but what could it be? Is he making them run too much not enough, not enough stretching, too much? What could Girardi be doing to cause this?
sign me
Who has said that the Yankees are an elite team?
People are just hoping they turn things around and are saying they will. There's nothing wrong with a fan having hope.
That'll make things even worse (Bonds).
From the Anonymous guy who can't stand Yankee homers, but isn't the guy who said the season's over.
I'm trying to say that we are not enititled to automatically turn a corner. We are not a good team, until we start winning. So stop with the, "everybody will turn around" and "we'll be the greatest team ever." We will gradually earn respect from winning, but we have no respect from other teams as of now.
It's scary how bad this team is.
1) I can't believe how they went into the season with this bullpen. There is no REAL veteran presence other then MO. Just a bunch of kids that can throw heat but can't control their pitches.
2) A.J Burnett. There were decent starters on the market this year. I really liked lowe he is a gamer and could have got him cheaper. They could had used the difference and bulked up the bullpen.
3) Joe Girardi. I am tired of his boneheaded managing, he is driving this team into the ground. We are becoming the laughing stock of the MLB right now. All of this money to produce this shit?
4) TEX IS A WASTE OF MONEY, HE DOES NOT HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A YANKEE. HE IS YELLOW
"So stop with the, 'everybody will turn around' and 'we'll be the greatest team ever.'"I've never said or implied either of those two ideas.
F*CK THIS TEAM, WE ARE HORRIBLE.
SEND HUGHES DOWN AND LET FREDDIE SEZ PITCH ON FRIDAY. I HEAR HE HAS A NASTY BREAKING BALL!
To Greg, you certainly aren't a Yankee homer. You are different. I guess I'm referring to Yankee homers at Nyyfans.com who act like we are enitled to first place and that we'll automatically turn around.
Your just a bit more optimistic than me. Kudos to you, and great blog. I go here every day now.
Absolulely owned! Great team you built Cashman. There isn't a GM who does more with less.
This team should be blown up and start over.
Thanks, Anon.
Other Anon, or maybe the same, I'm not sure. (Put sigs on your posts!) I only disagree about your point on Teixeira. I think he will be fine. His OPS is higher than Tino's was at this point in 1996 and that worked out OK.
Regarding the bullpen, it would probably be a lot better if Bruney was healthy. He was a big loss.
Greg I know exactly what it is, it's Girardi's aura. It causes injuries to any team he manages. He's a baseball vampire and he needs to be stopped!
Seriously I don't know, but when this problem follows the manager to two different teams then you have to look at the manager. Is it a coincidence that the Marlins, especially the pitchers got healthier after he was gone?
With all the leg injuries the Yankees have suffered over the past four or so seasons, is it time to look into new training staff/regimen?
Well anon when the GM hires the trainer at his country club, do you really trust them to hire trainers? Just look at the coaching that the GM has ok'd
Greg, I've taken your advice, and I've chosen a name for myself.
Danny, I'm not saying it's not him. Just wondering what it could be.
Mike,
Nice.
I kind of figured they were going to lose tonight. As long as they win the next two games against toronto if will be a good series for the yanks.
Sorry if I offended any poster when I ranted on about the team. Just trying to place lower expectations (which is sad for a team with such a high payroll), on the Yankees.
Thank you other Anon. (Put a sig on your posts!) Nice to see some optimism. Hopefully the Anon who said the season is over doesn't yell at you.
in 1820 a man named fredrick osloft one day he was working in his lab until a ghost came by and killed him the next morning fredrick was nowhere to be seen 100 years later two boys went in the lab as a dare the boys where never seen again where aparently murdered now that u have read this comment tonight when u go to sleep the two boys and fredrick will come and murder you but you can stop this by posting this comment on 5 other videos by midnight
Is that a blog post chain comment??
AAAAHHH! I'm so scraed! Get a life, will ya.
you are dumb
last year, my friends and i started the official Kei Igawa Fan Club as a major joke. we brought signs to a game against tampa bay during opening week last season against the rays - the sunday game that wang threw a no hitter into the 7th. we held up signs that read "bring back igawa" and "igawa parking only" ...it is with sad that our club actually now has a worthy cause
The Yankees just announced that Lonn Trost is going to take over baseball operations and if he does as well as he did with the stadium project, we are a sure bet to win it all.
I knew I was gonna be disappointed when I would wake up. And I am.
Another injury, another fightless loss, another game back.
I was confident in this team from the beginning but now they have to show some life because the Red Sox are not gonna wait for us.
Go Bombers.
Vinsanity,
They lost to Roy Halladay, you had to know that was going to happen. He's owned us for years. If they can take the next two this will still be a successful road trip.
