News & Notes

- Andy Pettitte has made 18 starts against the Twins in his career, and he's 8-5. with a 3.61 ERA. Last year he made one start against them, giving up five runs (four earned) on ten hits in seven innings. He got a no decision in the 6-5 Yankees loss.

- Glen Perkins is 1-2, with a 5.00 ERA in three starts against the Yankees in his career. He's 0-1, with a 7.50 ERA in one game at the old stadium. In six innings he allowed five runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out two. All the starts came last year.

- The Yankees have won five in a row and seven of nine. They've also won three straight games in walk-off fashion, it ties a franchise record and it was the first time since Aug. 25-27 of 1972.

- According to Rotoworld, the Pittsburgh Pirates claimed RHP Steven Jackson off waivers from Yankees today. Jackson was DFA'd on May 8th after the 27-year-old posted a 1.88 ERA in seven appearances for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Pirates will assign Jackson to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Here's three pieces of news from 1050 ESPN radio:

- Brian Bruney will be activated tomorrow if he reports no pain.

- Brett Gardner has a contusion on or near his right rotator cuff and is out tonight. He had an MRI today and its listed as day-to-day. The injury occurred during the play at the plate yesterday.

- Chien-Ming Wang will head to New York for a side session on Tuesday in front of Joe Girardi and the coaches. The Yankees will then whether Wang heads back to the rotation or makes another start in the minors. His velocity was only 88-92 mph, which is not where the Yankees want it to be so it's likely he'll make at least one more start in Triple-A.

The pirates are raping are young pitching. Those bastards!!!!!!!!!

Greg Cohen said...

I've yet to find a link to this. And Chad Jennings doesn't have any info on it yet.

Fired up here after those hits...

Greg Cohen said...

Hey Jonny,

They're looking great so far offensively. Hopefully the five runs are enough for Pettitte.

Jon Bachrach said...

Very encouraging, it's only the 1st. The best games are where everyone contributes a little. It's looking like that so far. A buffer is important for a pitcher like Petitte...

Jon Bachrach said...

Where is Matsui tonight?

Jon Bachrach said...

Hey Greg

Greg Cohen said...

Has the night off against the righty.

TEX-ROD

At this point do we really trust their evaluation skills?

Jon Bachrach said...

Manager's decisions will always be controversial at times...

Greg Cohen said...

lol good point, Scott.

Great play by Cano. Don't usually see him dive like that.

Jon Bachrach said...

Tex's average was in the 100s just a weeks or two ago. It's good to see him starting to find himself again.

Greg Cohen said...

Yea, he's been red hot since A-Rod came back.

Jon Bachrach said...

They will hopefully provide motivation for each other since they are next to each other in the lineup

Greg Cohen said...

Yeah, plus they will both see better pitches, especially Teixeira.

Anonymous said...

I'm getting very sick or Mauer and Morneau. Especially Morneau.

Jon Bachrach said...

Good Point... I didn't think of that.

Hey do you like the series The Bronx is Burning?

Greg Cohen said...

Me too, Anon.

Greg Cohen said...

Yes Jonny, I liked that mini series a lot. Thought ESPN did a great job.

Greg Cohen said...

Is Pettitte really going to cough up this lead?

Anonymous said...

Bah, come on Greg, Pettitte will be fine.

Greg Cohen said...

I hope so. He's just annoying me with the way he's pitching so far. Great defense behind him, though. The Yankees need to put another 4 or 5 on the board to make this a little more comfortable.

Typical Jeter with his GIDP. Its pathetic watching him. How much better would this team without him, both defensively and offensively. He should be hitting 9th. He's continually killing us with his GIDP's.

Greg Cohen said...

He's 2-for-3 today, Anon.

Plus he's been pretty solid this year defensively.

rpb said...

if he had time to time his jump he had time to go a few steps back and make the play

Greg Cohen said...

You're right RPB, He could have gone back on that and made the play. I think he misjudged it at first.

The Yanks need a few runs here. The Twins have all the momentum right now.

Greg Cohen said...

What a bulls*** call.

Anonymous said...

I hate these fucking umps. How many years have they been screwing us?

rpb said...

That was a Glavine strike a ball width off the plate. that pitch had more of the batter's box line than the plate

Greg Cohen said...

The umps have been bad for everyone all year.

Anonymous said...

FUCKING CANADIAN BASTARD

Greg Cohen said...

Geez, they can't get Morneau out, did you see where that pitch was?

Anonymous said...

Were these idiots watching the game? He was garbage tonight.

Anonymous said...

VERAS????? REALLY GIRARDI???

Greg Cohen said...

Andy battled but it wasn't a good start.

Greg Cohen said...

Cuddyer is 1-for-2 against Ramirez with a HR.

Aceves should be in the game.

Anonymous said...

Andy stunk!

Greg Cohen said...

Veras is so bad. I can't believe he's leaving him out there.

Anonymous said...

WOW he got out of it.

Greg Cohen said...

It's a good thing Carlos Gomez is lost at the plate right now.

Anonymous said...

this sucks i have to work 5-9 4 days a week and miss half of all the games but THE YANKS LOOK AWESOME

I know Swisher's been really bad, but it looks like he's getting his swing back.

TEX

Greg Cohen said...

The Teixeira homer becomes more important.

Edwar needs to learn another pitch or get sent down.

Anonymous said...

Is there any doubt that Morneau is tying this game up?

Rich said...

There you go Phil..

Greg Cohen said...

Big strikeout. That should be a big confidence booster for Coke.

rob s said...

I am at the game right now in bleachers 203 and am biting my nails .. We need to get this bullpen together. Also I got to talking with coke during baTting practice and told him he better not do what he has been known for lately. He came over and asked what that was, and I told him it wasgiving up our leads and he said he hasn't lost a game yet. I told him against tampa bay annd he said he always gets pena and pena finally got him. I was like yea he did. Guess my pep talk worked with him. Let's go yanks!!!

rpb said...

Jeter has to step it up that's twice now

Bullpen (Coke) needs to put the keep them off the bases (no walks)and off the scorboard

rpb said...

DP pleased

Greg Cohen said...

That would be nice.

rpb said...

big batter here if he gets on = trouble

Greg Cohen said...

These damn walks are driving me crazy.

Anonymous said...

Girardi gave away this game.

Anonymous said...

This is ridiculous. These walks are stupid.

And, Ramirez and Veras dont belong on this team. They are huge liabilities.

rpb said...

You can't let a game like this slip by, throw strikes!

rpb said...

About time!

Rich said...

WOOOOOO SWEEEEEEEP!!!!!! GOOD FOR PHIL TOO

Greg Cohen said...

No he didn't, Anon.

Mo's been used a lot. And Coke somehow didn't implode. Good win.

Anonymous said...

Great job with Coke he got his first career save. And it was a 4 out save.

I was more impressed with how he handled Justin Morneau in the 8th, that is more his role when Bruney returns.

Anonymous said...

And Edwar Ramriez needs to be sent down tommorow and they call up Bruney.

crossfire said...

It wasn't pretty but a win is a win. Nice to see Tex hitting the crap out of the ball.

6 in a row!

JC said...

You people that blame Girardi when the bullpen blows it kill me. What do you want Girardi to do? Outside of Mo and Aceves, every out there SUCKS. No matter who he sends in, it's a gamble. So no matter who he picks, you're all gonna be like, "Oh, what the hell is Girardi thinking?!"
