News & Notes

- Brian Bruney has been activated and to make room on the roster Edwar Ramirez was sent down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. I still think it should have been Jose Veras, but Ramirez was struggling too.

- In 11 career starts against the Orioles CC Sabathia is 6-1, with a 2.67 ERA. He's already made two starts against them this year, and he's 1-1, with a 4.05 ERA. The second start came 11 days ago in Baltimore and CC pitched a complete game shutout.

- This is Brad Bergesen first career start against the Yankees. The 23-year old has made just five big league starts and he's 1-1, with a 5.27 ERA.

- The Yankees have won six in a row and eight of their last ten.

- During the Yankees current six game winning streak Mark Teixeira is hitting .458/.500/.958, with 3 HR and 11 RBI.

- A few interesting offensive splits for you; first the Yankees are hitting just .249/.350/.438 with RISP, and .250/.383/.455 with RISP and two outs. But in late & close situations the Yankees are mashing the ball, hitting .355/.447/.614.

- Against AL East teams the Yankees are just 7-12.

We have to take at least 2 of 3 this series. That way, no matter what happens in Toronto, we can gain ground.

I agree.

The only pitching matchup I don't feel good about is tomorrow, then again this game is nuts and things never work out as planned.

Yea the way you catch up to division leaders is by winning series, so 2 out of 3 would be great especially with boston and toronto going head to head. CC will go strong today but the bullpen if called upon needs to nail it down. They need not to scare like last night, I was there and had no nails by the end of game .. thank god i bitched at coke for all those leads he gave up, it got him pumped up to prove he better than that. When I did tell him in batting practice that he gave up too much leads, he turned around and came right for me, I thought he would jump into the stands. He looked pissed ...

So much for Cano's day off, I guess Retardi forgets what he says.

I have Time Warner Cable and it is not on MY9. What do I do?

Greg Cohen said...

I have no idea, Joe.

What the hell. Great night for me to watch a ball game and now, NOT.

Greg Cohen said...

Call Time Warner.

What is it showing instead?

When I turned it on it was the Simpsons. I called and they said there was a scheduling problem and it is in channel 72 for me

Greg Cohen said...

So you can see the game, correct?

FiOS craps on Time Warner.

Greg Cohen said...

I've heard FIOS was great. I have Time Warner in Jersey and it's fine. No complaints besides their new software on the cable boxes is worse than the old.

Anonymous said...

If you ever think about switching I suggest FiOS, I love my set top box, all the things it can do are amazing, weather, traffic, news, I rarely use my laptop now for info.

And having yesterdays Yanks game on demand is pretty sweet too!

Greg Cohen said...

I'm hoping Time Warner gets YES on demand.

Cervelli is a pest!

Greg Cohen said...

He really is. He's been a great addition to this team.

Anonymous said...

Cervelli is impressing me. Its a shame he wont be around once Po and Molina are back, I think this kid can be a great catcher for us.

Anonymous said...

Glad Joe went with Tomko in the 9th. The last couple of blow outs Girardi went with Albaledejo and Mariano had to warm up both times.

Molina is a free agent next year and it looks like Cervelli will be one of our catchers next year.

Great to see Bruney look nasty out there. His fastball was 94-95 tonight.

Greg Cohen said...

Bruney did look very good. A lot of good things going on right now. If this team can just stay healthy they'll be fine.

Veras cannot be sent down unless the Yanks want to lose him totally. He's out of options and would need to clear waivers, which he wouldn't do.

Veras only has problems when he has control issues. When he's on, he's almost unhittable. The Yanks aren't going to give up on a guy like that.

You know who used to be like Veras? Brian Bruney. But he's gotten his act together and look at how awesome he is now.
