News & Notes

- Brian Bruney is headed back to the DL due to pain in his right arm. He and the Yankees still have no idea what is causing the pain, but it would appear that both Bruney and the Yanks have decided to play it safe. The Yankees will fill his roster spot with another pitcher tomorrow.

- Phil Hughes will be making his first start against the Rangers since his second major league start on May 1, 2007, in Arlington. That was the game that Hughes was pitching the no-hitter and pulled his hamstring. In 6.1 innings that night he held the Rangers hitless, walked three and struck out six in his first big league win. It is still the best any of us have seen Hughes throw the ball.

- Matt Harrison has made one start against the Yankees and that came on August 5th of last year. He's 1-0, with a 2.84 ERA. In 6.1 innings he allowed two run on five hits, walked three and struck out three.

- According to the Daily News, Joba Chamberlain threw a bullpen session last night and should be fine for tomorrow's start.

Those red hats are disgusting.

Agreed.

It's one thing to have a patch in honor of Memorial Day, but now we're drastically changing the uniform. Those hats have to go. I'd much rather see a patch -- on the uniform or cap. That would be so much better.

Greg Cohen said...

It was one thing last year when the hats were blue, but I hate how the red hats look with the Yankees uniform. Like you, I'd be in favor of a patch, but I understand why they chose the hat. They take the money they make from selling the hats and donate it to one of the veteran's charities, and they wouldn't make any money if they were selling a patch.

3-0 Bombers. Whoo-hoo!

Brian Danuff said...

Check that 5-0 Bombers! Cano - 2 run TRIPLE!

Greg Cohen said...

Hey YB, yep, great start for the Yankees. Getting out of last inning was huge for Hughes.

Brian Danuff said...

I know. The same thing happened in my game today. We were down 4-3 and the bases were loaded with no one out, but my teamate got a double play and a strikeout to keep us in the ballgame. We ended up winning 8-6 in 10 innings.

Last comment I will make of the hats: you're correct, the blue hats were much better, and I didn't mind the Red/White/Blue "NY". No team should go "outside" their color scheme.

Greg Cohen said...

Nice, YB.

wnylibrarian,

I agree.

Melky! Wow! I was all over this guy but I have to admit he's stepped up his game this year. See what can happen when you fear for your job a little? Gardner's no super star, but he's the push Melky needed. Swisher got a hit too? For sure it's about time to take this texas pitcher out!

Greg Cohen said...

Melky has been unbelievable.

Oh look, Teabagger got a hit.

Hate the caps. Put the red, white and blue NY on a regular Yankee cap and I'd buy it tomorrow.

Hughes is pitching a great game so far.

Go Yanks!

wnylibrarian said...

Hey, is John Flaherty on the broadcast booth or pitching for the texas Rangers? Or perhaps it's a lost brother?

Greg Cohen said...

lol Benson does look like Flash.

.... Ahhh, gotta love a 10-0 lead.

keep the hats until we lose...lol...just kidding..

wnylibrarian said...

Three-run sixth inning? I think Flash is pitching. Oh, and way to go Newman. Kudos! Chris Carpenter had a perfect game going...until she mentioned the words "perfect game." The 'broadcaster whammy' strikes again!

I just found the game on MLB Network... damn those hats are ugly. They looked bad in the pictures I saw earlier in the week, but with the road greys, they are horrible.

10-0 whoo-hooo!

wnylibrarian said...

Now I'm getting concerned about tomorrow. A-Rod is 5-5 and Yankees are leading 10-0. Tomorrow the Yanks will be struggling in a 2-1 pitchers duel in the 8th inning. Oh, BTW, I think the texas Rangers pitching coach got his mustache from Bobby Valentine.

Greg Cohen said...

Never worry about 10-0 wins.

wnylibrarian said...

Mr. Cohen, I worry. I live in Buffalo. We find that sliver of depression in a vast sea of happiness! Such is life in B-Low.

crossfire said...

Great game!

Nice to see Hughes pitch such a great game.

Greg Cohen said...

Yep, very very nice win. Hughes was fantastic against a very good hitting ball club.

wnylibrarian said...

I totally agree. This was an awesome game in all areas. The Yankees came out aggressive and swinging, and Hughes came out aggressive throwing strikes. They clicked on all cylinders.

Mario said...

it was a great game except giving up that HR, lose the shutout, retards, maybe we should trade HUGHES to texas, he seems to pitch his best there...obviously joking....

daneptizl said...

Hughes rocking the championship belt on the interview.

crossfire said...

It would have been nice to get the shutout but I don't have an issue with Aceves giving up the home run. He went after the batters like you should when you have a big lead.

Guys like Veras and Ramirez try to make every pitch perfect and since they aren't nearly perfect, they walk guys. The next thing you know, your big lead is in danger. That annoys the hell out of me.

Although the Rangers have a good record, it’s just difficult to take the Ragers seriously. Are they going to tank again once the summer heats up? Time will tell & I hope that you won’t stop supporting your team!!! Just read about them here:
