News & Notes

UPDATE 10:56 p.m.: According to Peter Abraham, the Yankees are saying that Pettitte has lower back stiffness.

UPDATE 8:10 p.m.: The game is set to begin at 8:30 p.m.

- In 18 career starts against the Indians Andy Pettitte is 6-8, with a 4.53 ERA. At Progressive Field he's 5-4, with a 4.01 ERA in 10 starts. He faced them twice last year and went 0-1, with a 4.76 ERA. One of the starts was in Cleveland and he lasted just five innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits, walked three and struck out three.

- In eight career starts against the Yankees Cliff Lee is 4-3, with a 5.09 ERA. He faced them once this year on opening day at the new stadium, and in six innings he allowed one run on seven hits, walked one and struck out five to pick up the win. He also beat the Yanks the only time he faced them last year.

- The Yankees are hitting .313/.385/.538 against left-handed pitchers this year.

- The Yankees have not made an error in a franchise record 14 straight games.

- New York has also won 14 of their last 19 games.

- Derek Jeter has hit safely in 11 straight games. Mark Teixeira also has a nice hitting streak going, hitting safely in ten in a row.

- The Yankees optioned Kevin Cash down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make room on the roster for Posada. According to Peter Abraham, the Yanks want Francisco Cervelli to catch CC tomorrow.

- Two injured Yanks will begin their throwing programs at the beginning of the week. Xavier Nady will start his on Monday, and Brian Bruney will start on Tuesday.

- Cleveland has won four in a row, and seven of their last nine.

- Prior to tonight's game the Indians recaalled LHP Rafael Perez from Triple-A Columbus. To make room on the roster they DFA’d David Dellucci.

- Tonight will be the first time that Jorge Posada, Hideki Matsui and Alex Rodriguez are in the lineup together since June 22nd of last year.
