Power Rankings Update

I meant to do this weekly, but it's been slipping my mind lately. Anyway here are the updated power rankings from CBS Sportline, ESPN, Fox Sports, and AOL Fanhouse.

On CBS Sportline the Yankees are ranked 11 as of May 19th's rankings. They moved up from 17 the previous week.

Their top ten looks like this: 1. Blue Jays, 2. Dodgers, 3. Brewers, 4. Red Sox, 5. Cubs, 6. Rangers, 7. Mets, 8. Phillies, 9. Tigers, 10. Cadrinals.

Over on ESPN they updated their rankings on the 18th, and had the Yankees at number seven, up from 13 the week before. Here's their top ten:

1. Dodgers, 2. Blue Jays, 3. Rangers, 4. Brewers, 5. Red Sox, 6. Mets, 7. Yankees, 8. Cubs, 9. Phillies, 10. Tigers.

Fox Sports updated their power rankings on the 17th and they have the Yankees ranked 10th, exactly where they had them the week prior. Here's Fox Sports' top ten:

1. Dodgers, 2. Blue Jays, 3. Rangers, 4. Brewers, 5. Mets, 6. Cubs, 7. Red Sox, 8. Tigers, 9. Phillies, 10. Yankees.

On AOL Fanhouse they have the most up to date rankings having updated them on the 20th. The Yankees ranked 5th, up from 10th the week prior. And here's their top ten:

1. Blue Jays, 2. Dodgers, 3. Red Sox, 4. Brewers, 5. Yankees, 6. Rangers, 7. Phillies, 8. Cubs, 9. Tigers, 10. Rays.

Some of these are a few days old so the Yankees probably aren't getting the credit they deserve. So, what do you think of the most recent power rankings?

I bet if you asked all the teams around the league which team they would least like to face tonight, nearly every one of them would probably say the Yanks.

I agree, Crossfire.

Those ranking are always biased. Sometimes the Yankess are on a losing streak and they are still ranked higher than a team that just swept them or vise versa.

It will be interesting to see how the Yankees are ranked come Sunday, regardless of how this weekend goes. I think AOL fanhouse has the most accurate rankings, but they have the latest... The Jays need to be taken off the 1 slot on all these ranking sites though.

True, these rankings are coming mid winning streak, when it was just four, five or six games.

Power rankings are always ridiculous, but they are the worst in baseball. Having the Blue Jays at #1 or #2 is a great example of this. They're not a bad team but it's pretty clear unless something changes dramatically they're going to continue to regress as they face better teams.

Power rankings are all about small sample sizes which mean something in the NFL, but not MLB.

As of today I would say number 2 behind only the Dodgers. I guess you could argue that they should be 3 or 4 behind the Sox and Jay's, but not me :)
