6/22 Minor League Report

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (41-26) lost to Indianapolis (32-36) in game 1 of today's doubleheader 7-1: Box Score - Recap

PITCHING: Casey Fossum got the start and the loss (3-3) for the Yanks. Fossum gave up back-to-back homers to start the 2nd. Two singles and an error scored the 3rd run to give the Indians a 3-0 lead. Indianapolis scored an unearned run in the 6th on a single and 2 more errors to up their lead to 4-1 before Fossum was relieved. Fossum was charged with 6 runs, but only 2 were earned due to shoddy defense. Line: 5.0 IP, 6 runs, 2 earned, 7 hits, 4 K's--2 BB.

BULLPEN: Anthony Claggett relieved Fossum in the 6th with runners on 1st and 3rd and no outs He gave up 2 RBI singles to up Indy's lead to 6-1 before getting out of the inning. In the 7th, Claggett gave up a solo homer to give Indy a 7-1 lead and the win.

OFFENSE: The Yanks scored their only run in the 3rd to make the score 3-1 at the time. Justin Leone walked, Kevin Cash singled. The run scored on a fielders choice double play. Aside from Cash's single, Shelley Duncan had a lead off double in the 2nd go to waste, and Austin Jackson singled in the 6th.

PITCHING: Josh Towers got the start fo the Yanks against former Yankee farmhand Dan McCutchen - he was part of the Xavier Nady trade. Towers shutout Indy on 2 infield hits thru the first 3 innings. The Yanks staked him to a 3-0 lead, but he couldn't stand prosperity. He imploded in the 4th, giving up 4 runs on 4 hits including a solo homer and RBI double to give Indianapolis a 4-3 lead. Towers left after the 4th. 4.0 IP, 4 runs, 6 hits, 2 K-1 BB, 4.95.

BULLPEN: Mark Melancon came on in the 5th. He struck out his 1st 2 batters. He then gave up a double to deep left center before getting a groundout to end the inning. Melancon gave up a run in the 6th on a hit batter, single, wild pitch, and RBI sac fly to give Indy a 5-3 lead. 2.0 IP, 1 run, 2 hits, 4 K's--0 walks, 32 pitches---20 strikes.

Zach Kroenke came on to pitch the 7th. He gave up a run on a single, stolen base, and groundout to give Indianapolis the 6-3 win.

OFFENSE: The Yanks got to McCutchen in the 3rd. Chris Stewart led off with a double. Cody Ransom walked, and Shelley Duncan hit a 3-run homer (21) to give SWB a 3-0 lead. The homer was Duncan's first in 3 weeks. He leads the league with 64 RBI. The Yanks brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 7th. Colin Curtis and Kevin Russo singled, but Austin Jackson then struck out to end the game.

Xavier Nady expected to start rehab assignment at SWB Tuesday. ...Gene Michael was at Sundays doubleheader that ended up being canceled because of wet grounds. ... Cody Ransom's rehab time runs out Tuesday. ... OF Colin Curtis was promoted from Trenton. and Luis Nunez was sent to Tampa. ... Austin Jackson made his 3rd start of the year in right field in game 2.... According to Chad Jennings, Ian Kennedy will rejoin the SWB Yankees this week to do some rehab work with the team.

Kennedy was in the Yankees clubhouse on Sunday and said he was very encouraged by his progress from surgery. He hasn't been given a day when he'll start throwing -- it will be six weeks since surgery on Tuesday -- but he's been doing a lot of strength exercises, including some that mimic the throwing motion.

Great news about Kennedy. I still think he can be a major league pitcher.

I hope so, but I'm just not sure about Kennedy. He has to have absolutely perfect with his location if he's going to be successful at the major league level.

How are we gonna turn it around THIS season ? This is a major concern among many Yankee fans. Even Lucas Glover hopes the Yankees "can turn it around" as he told NBC. I hope so.
