6/26 Minor League Report

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (42-30) beat Syracuse (39-33) 5-1: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yankees snapped a 5 game losing streak with a 5-1 win at Syracuse. The win ups the 1st place Yanks record to 42-30 and increases their lead over 2nd place Syracuse to 3 games.

PITCHING: This game was a bullpen-by-committee start for SWB. Romulo Sanchez got the start. Sanchez was perfect the first 2 innings picking up a strikeout in each. In the 3rd, a walk and RBI double cut the SWB lead to 3-1. 3.0 IP, 1 run, 1 hit, 3 K's--2 walks

Paul Bush tossed a scoreless 4th, giving up a 2-out double. Bush threw a scoreless 5th. He gave up a 2-out infield hit, but Chris Stewart threw out the runner trying to steal. A perfect 6th inning from Bush with the help of a great catch by Colin Curtis in deep right-center. Bush picked up the win (1-2). 3.0 IP, 0 runs, 2 hits, 2 K's--0 walks

Edwar Ramirez threw a scoreless 7th with 2 strikeouts. 2 runners reached, on an error and infield hit. Ramirez started the 8th with a fly out. He was relieved after giving up a walk, stolen base and picking up a strikeout. 1.2 IP, 0 runs, 1 hit, 3 K--1 walk.

Jonathan Alabladejo relieved Ramirez in the 8th with a runner at 2nd and 2 out. He threw 1 pitch to get a ground out to end the 8th. Albaledejo threw a perfect 9th with a strikeout.

OFFENSE: The Yanks came into this game with a 5 game losing streak. SWB had hit just .128 with RISP (6-47). In the 1st, Kevin Russo singled, and Shelley Duncan doubled. Russo and Duncan scored when Juan Miranda reached on a shot that was ruled an an error to give SWB a 2-0 lead. In the 2nd, Eric Duncan doubled, followed by a Chris Stewart rbi double to make it 3-0. The Yankees were held scoreless until the 9th. Justin Leone and Eric Duncan singled. Chris Stewart reached on a fielders choice, with Leone out on the play. A throwing error into the dugout scored Duncan and Stewart to up the Yanks lead to 5-1.

Eric Duncan had a double and 2 singles. Kevin Russo tripled and singled. Shelley Duncan doubled and singled. Colin Curtis and Justin Leone singled.

NOTES: Xaver Nady took himself out of Thursday's game and will have TJ surgery. ... George Kontos, Thursday's starter, was placed on the DL. ... Trenton pitcher Christian Garcia had his 2nd TJ surgery last week and is out for the season. ... Austin Jackson was 0-5 with 2 K's. He's in the midst of a 3-29 slump, and is now batting .321.
