6/27 Minor League Report - Venditte To Tampa

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (42-31) lost to Rochester (36-38) 6-5: Box Score - Recap

PITCHING: Josh Towers got the start for the Yankees He tossed a scoreless 1st inning. In the 2nd, Towers gave up 2 runs on a solo homer, single, stolen base, and RBI double to give Rochester a 2-1 lead. In the 3rd, Towers gave up another solo homer to give Rochester a 3-1 advantage. It was the 9th homer Towers has given up. Towers then held Rochester scoreless thru the 6th. Towers' line: 6.0 IP, 3 runs, 8 hits, 2 K, 1 walk.

BULLPEN: Mark Melancon relieved Towers in the 7th. Melancon walked the first batter he faced on 8 pitches. He then gave up a rbi double that cut the Yanks lead to 5-4. In the 8th, a solo homer tied the game at 5-5. It was only the 2nd homer of the year off Melancon. He was credited with a blown save. Melancon's line: 2.0 IP, 2 runs, 2 hits, 1 K--1 BB, ERA 2.91 32 pitches - 18 strikes

Anthony Claggett came to pitch the 9th for the Yankees. Claggett gave up a walk and 2 singles to give Rochester a run and the win 6-5. Clagget got the loss (3-4).

OFFENSE: The Yanks came into this game winning 6 of 7 against Rochester, and hitting .304 against them. The Yankees broke out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning off Kevin Mulvey. Austin Jackson singled, stole 2nd (13), and scored on a Colin Curtis RBI single. Mulvey shut the Yanks down until the 7th when they scored 4 runs. Juan Miranda walked, John Rodriguez got a RBI double scoring Miranda from 1st. Justin Leone hit a rbi single, followed by Eric Duncan with a RBI double. Kevin Russo and Austin Jackson then walked to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Duncan from 3rd to give SWB a 5-3 lead. Colin Curtis walked to reload the bases, but Shelley Duncan lined out to end the inning. Shelley made the 1st and 3rd outs in the inning. In the 8th, John Rodriguez picked up his 2nd double of the game, but pulled a hamstring and had to leave the game. In the 9th, the Yanks threatened again when Russo singled and Curtis walked, but Shelley Duncan struckout to end the threat. Rough night for Shelley.

NOTES: Eric Duncan on a hot streak his last few games went 3-4 with RBI double and 2 singles. Kevin Russo has reached base in 22 straight games.... Ivan Nova was promoted from AA to SWB will join the rotation. George Kontos put on the DL..... John Rodriguez left tonight's game in the 8th inning with a hamstring pull.... Kei Igawa gets the start Sunday, as I take a day off.

Notes:
Peter Abraham reporter today that Pat Venditte was promoted to Tampa. In 28 games with Low-A Charleston he was 2-2, with 20 saves and a 1.47 ERA. In 30.2 innings he's allowed five earned runs on 24 hits, walked 2 and struck out 40. Opponents are hitting just .212 against him.
