News & Notes
- Peter Abraham is reporting that major league baseball has to be suspended A.J. Burnett for six games for throwing at Nelson Cruz's head on Tuesday. He will appeal the suspension. Like most suspensions in baseball this is an absolute joke but if Josh Beckett got six games for throwing at Bobby Abreu, which none of us seemed to have a problem with, then this shouldn't bother us either. It just better get knocked down to five games like Beckett's was. This is just another example of why you should just hit someone in the back or throw behind them instead of throwing at people's heads.
Vincente Padilla was fined an undisclosed amount of money. He probably deserved a suspension, but he didn't throw at anyone's head.
- Chien-Ming Wang hasn't started since April 18th. As a starter this year he's 0-3, with a 34.50 ERA. Wang is 2-1, with a 4.14 ERA in four games (three starts) against Texas. He hasn't started against them yet this year, but did throw two perfect innings against Texas in Arlington on May 27th.
- In his career Brandon McCarthy has made three appearances (one start) against the Yankees. He's 1-0, with a 3.86 ERA. At the old stadium he was 1-0, with a 1.59 ERA in two games (one start).

Now who will supply the pies in the face if someone hits a walkoff during his suspension?
Im cool with that BUT, suspend Padilla as well the second time he hit tex was way to obvious
Padilla doesn't have a team right now. No point in suspending him, he was fined.
Padilla won't be suspended because he didn't throw at someone's head. That's the only reason Burnett is suspended. If he has hit Cruz in the middle of his numbers he wouldn't have been suspended.
Nice start on both ends; clean 1-2-3 inning for Wang, and Damon leads off with a solo homer.
Damnit Tex, run the damn bases right.
Teixeira has really been showing off the terrible base running this week. Wake up!
That was awful.
Damn... could have been a big inning.
Wang looks sharp.
hows the sinker looking i cant get the mlb gameday im stuck w espn
He looks good so far. The sinker is very good.
I'm at work listen to John Sterling and Suzyn "Oh my goodness gracious!" Waldman.
Wang will prob make it through the 5th if he doesnt get beat up. Pitch count is supposed to be around 80.
-G
nothing against cervelli, but wang's first game start in awhile, vs offensive minded texas, i'd rather have Posada catching....
All because of A-Rod's injury.... how dumb do you have to be to not get it checked out right after the 08 season is done, considering it bothered you for the last two months... terrible...
Looks like another loss. Yanks will be in third place by Monday.
Looks like you fail in intelligence.
How you idiots have faith in this team is amazing to me. They haven't beat a good team all year.
Why are you here then? You're obviously not a Yankees fan. Why don't you go over to SOSH, you'll find more of your kind there.
Need to put some damn runs up on McCarthy...
yeah wang is looking great, get em out the freaking game, bum, and you wanna put hughes in the bullpen.
Why do we have faith in a team that is tied for first place? What kind of stupid question is that?
-G
Is this the same anon moron that blamed Posada for Hughes pitching even though he wasn't catching?
Pathetic.
They won't see first place again all year. This past hot streak was a fluke. And name on good team they've beaten?
texas
that is comment #27, the same # of championships we are going after. we have 26, your team has how many ?
Texas, Detroit and Toronto.
Dont you have a Red Sox site to try and make youre points to? Theyve beaten Texas and came very close to taking 2 from the Phillies (we'll see how Boston plays them). Who has Boston beaten lately thats so great? Kind of a hipocritical comment.
-G
It could be... this is why I want Anonymous posters to at least right a sig at the bottom of their posts so we can figure out who is who.
And Dane, not to defend the idiot, but Detroit and Toronto stink.
Here comes a strike out.
My bad he actually hit the ball 20 feet. HAHAHAHAHAHHA YOU GUYS SUCK!
Well, I just went to check the overall standings, and they were the teams that were closest to us in wins with 5 games over .500.
Whats sad is Yankee haters spend more time watching the Yankees than their own team. Why would you waste your time watching a game other than your own team's if you deep down ddidnt have a secret desire to be a Yankee fan. Im not watching the Sox and going onto a Sox site to talk about their game. Pretty amusing to me how sad some Yankee haters can be.
-G
I know Dane, but I just can't consider those teams "good."
In all honesty the guy is right, we haven't been a good team all year besides Texas. The Yankees don't suck, far from it, but they're 0-5 against the Sox, 1-2 against Philly, and 2-3 against the Rays.
HAHAHAHAHHA 5-1!!!!
Way to lose three of your last five.
May I take this moment to say AGAIN I think the yankee coaching sucks major Wang and should be fired. I would have had Wang prove himself with at least 3 more 5 inning stints out of the pen before risking this crap, especially with Hughes pitching very well.
Can Wang go back to the pen now?
please spare us, take that retard out...sense Cano & Melky forgot what they were doing up until now, AROD is killing us, & matsui is our "predro cerrano"
didnt even make it 5. pathetic. please send him back to the pen until he can go 5 innings without giving up more than 5 hits.
Im sure he'll end up back in the pen. Whats difficult is to tell if he can get deeper in a game from just a couple relief innings. I feel like this may go back and forth during the season unless someone gets hurt.
At the moment Hughes can provide a better start than Wang.
-G
What's worse than Wang being awful, is that they've now been dominated two times in a row by shitty pitchers.
now please will they rotate Hughes in and give Pettitte 10 days off, which is what they fucking should have been thinking in the first place. Girardi and his coaches are retards.
So TB is good, but their record doesnt' show it?
I dont want to say Pettitte pitched wall last night, but the lineup really lost last nights game.
Tampa will have a better record than Toronto and Detroit when all is said and done. There are a lot of teams who get hot early and then fade into nothing as the summer heats up. That's where I throw Detroit and especially Toronto.
Girardi should make Veras a starter while he's at it.
Detroit has a chance, simply because they have a good front three in their rotation and play in a division that is mediocre from top to bottom.
he's got Burnett's slot to fill, perfect opportunity to bring in Veras.
If Jose Veras started a game I'd never watch baseball again.
when does Hockey season start?
So who makes the next start... Wang still, right? Although it'd be against Boston.
There's an old saying if ain't broke, don't fix it. So why the hell has Girardi mucked around with the rotation? Wang should have been made to earn his way back on to the roster by pitching consistently well in the minors. On top of that, we can't afford to have both Jeter and Posada out of the batting lineup against the better teams.
I would do anything possible to not have Wang start against the Sox. That's basically giving the game away.
Good points all around, Bruce.
I think Will makes a good point: we've got to wonder why they started Wang. They way we handle our pitchers is laughable. I've never been impressed with this coaching staff.
This is the day I decided to take off, come home, and watch the game on YES. C'mon Swisher!
Mike
PS Does A-Rod suck or what?
I don't know who's fault it was, but the error was in bringing Wang back so soon.
Veras.
Gotta tie it this inning...
hell why isn't Veras pitching now, since this game is now a throw away.
i gotta go to a meeting. l8r
WOO HOO!!! TIE GAME!!!
A bases clearing dinker?
lol, I'll take it.
Way to go Swisher and TEX!!!!!!
Mike
Just don't strike out A-Rod...
Mark Teixeira, you're my hero
I was thinking the same thing, Dane.
Seriously, all he has to do is get the runner over and I'll be happy.
The next ten games should be entertaining: 4 TB, 3 Sox, 3 Mets.
Okay, so you punks tied it. Well done, but you fools still know you're gonna lose.
That will be a big test for the Yanks. I think we'll all know what kind of team we've got after those ten.
YEA A-ROD! You didn't choke!!!
I got a little scared that A-Rod might go for 2...
I hope Will didn't miss all the runs. He'll be happy when he gets back from his meeting, though.
I think he missed it.... dummy...
Team doesn't know how to run the bases... Jorge... Tex... A-Rod...
The base running on this team over the past few games has been embarrassing.
Wang clearly isnt ready yet. I can't see how they would throw him out there against Boston on tuesday and then the following sunday against the Mets
The next time I'd start Wang would be against the Nationals when they come to the stadium. They stink so he could probably have a nice confidence boosting game.
Yeah let him throw side sessions and get some bullpen work and build up the strength a little more. I think Hughes can fill the gap for the time being.
Nats have a pretty damn good offense though.
Nice relief work, huh? We take the lead and then let them tie it!
Mike
OH.....GOD.....NO!!!!! Not Phil Choke.
Put Wang in the pen, and make Swisher your number 5 guy... Lol.. At least he can pitch a scorless inning.. I feel bad for Wang, his confidence has got to be at an all time low right now. Hard to believe this is the same guy that won 19 two years in a row
He needs to build himself back up. The Yanks Trainers made a huge mistake not building his leg strength in the off season. I think these next at-bats could define how dangerous this line-up can be when games are close.
-G
That's true, G. That may have single handedly killed his season.
There's not much point in losing Swisher's bat by running Gardner for him, and not have him steal...
Bring in a pinch runner and not send him. Nice....
Mike
It makes no sense, you're right. I also would have liked to see Tex take a few pitches and allowed Gadner to go.
Girardi looks lost at times
Davis seems to be just a strong guy with a bat...
The Melkman delivers even after coming back from his temporary hiatus.
MELKY!!!!!!!!
MELKY DOES IT AGAIN!!!
Melky!
Mike
Big hit by Melky. Alright Mo, shut the door.
Dumb decision by Melky...
Ugh, Mo looks like he's got nothing today.
I cant see the game but im getting scared watching gamecast
Big strike out of Cruz...
Yankees Win!!!
Nice comeback!
And to the anus... errr... anon who said:
"Way to lose three of your last five."
Way to speak too early dumbass. lol
I've lost my YES feed on Direct TV. I've seen enough to see Mo give up to hits. Now what's he doing, guys?
Mike
That guy left as soon as A-Rod gave the Yanks the lead. Typical of trolls.
He struck out Cruz and got Murphy to pop out to third to end the game.
Thanks, Greg!
Way to go, Yanks!
Mike
Hahahah he's probably crying at home all over his poster of Papelbon grabbing Manny's crotch.

Hahaha
-G
Well done Melky and the Yanks for showing great character and resiliency...yet again. This team never knows when its beat. You can't do it every night but every other night will do for me. Now if we can just get Wang sorted out we'll be flying.
LOL How about David Robertson throws 1 pitch and gets the win.
I don't think Wang was all that bad. 2 hard hits (double in the 4th & HR in the 5th). All his outs were on grounders & Ks. The hits were grounders and low liners. What do you guys think?
ps-- Greg, suggestion--maybe you can remove that "Anonymous" option, & make it so a poster can't reuse another one's name. All these anonymous postings are a bit much, and I see that a non-Yankees fan slipped in earlier and hid behind that Anonymous moniker.
Also-- I have Monmouth Cablevision and I too lost my feed in the top of the 9th inning for those last 2 hitters. Mike B wasn't the only one.
Quote of the day:
"Hahahah he's probably crying at home all over his poster of Papelbon grabbing Manny's crotch."
If Bruney can stay healthy when he comes back the yankees pen will be good.
Mo closing Bruney as the setup man and then you have Coke, Aceves, Robertson and Tomko. That is a solid pen.
