News & Notes
- A.J. Burnett has never faced his former team. Lifetime at Land Shark Stadium Burnett is 28-17, with a 3.20 ERA in 64 games (62 starts).
Opponents are hitting .330/.406/.591 when Burnett throws to Jorge Posada, and just .174/.296/.174 with Francisco Cervelli (just one start), .211/.305/.344 with Jose Molina, and .245/.359/.418 with Kevin Cash. Should be interesting to see how Burnett and Posada work together tonight.
In his last four starts Burnett is 3-1 with a 3.18 ERA, and has allowed 20 hits, 14 walks, and struck out 24 in his last 22.2 innings pitched. However, in the two games he pitches with Cash and Cervelli behind the plate he allowed no earned runs in 13 innings, and in the two starts with Posada behind the plate he allowed 6 earned runs in 9.2 innings.
Can you tell I don't want Posada catching Burnett?
- Xavier Nady went 2-for-3 with a walk during four innings of an extended spring game yesterday in Tampa. Today he played five more innings in the outfield and went 0-for-4 at the plate. He made a few throws from the outfield, was able to hit the cutoff man, and said he felt no pain. He will take tomorrow off and play Monday. According to Peter Abraham he could then begin a rehab assignment.
- Jose Molina is at least a week away from a minor league game, and the same goes for Damaso Marte.
Update 6:30 p.m.: During BP Mark Teixeira hit a ball they went off the cage and then back off what Peter Abraham is referring to as a "bad place". He had to stop taking BP and it's not known if he will remain in the starting lineup.

It's not Posada's fault Burnett can't throw strikes.
I didn't say it was, he's even walking people in his good starts. You know, the ones that Posada isn't behind the plate for.
quality strikes...
Absolutely. That's the key.
Did Tex catch one to the nuts?
trrbl
It's a shame Burnett's had the best at bats of this team...
Damon's error was a joke and it's a bigger joke that it was considered a hit.
How is that not an error? The officials are such a joke this year....finally a hit for the yankees now. Burnett can't do everything.
They just changed it, E-7, no RBI or earned run.
By the way, what's with the state of Florida and cowbells?
Big RBI for Swish. 2-1 Marlins now with two on and two out for the Melk Man.
I hate when they give away those annoying things. Doesn't tampa bay do that too? Nice job Swish!
Yea, Tampa does the same thing. It's so stupid. Melky looks terrible against Johnson. He has no chance. Hopefully he's done now that he's past 100 pitches.
Its not Posada's fault about anything. Its definitely not his fault that he allows 6.77 runs per 9 IP. Its not his fault he continually hits into DP's, its not his fault the pitching staff has stunk under him for years, its definitely not his fault we haven't won a playoff series under him in years and its definitely not his fault HOF pitchers didn't want to throw to him. Nothing is his fault.
Furthermore, as long as Brian Cashman is happy that's all that matters.
Burnett's done after 98 pitches?
Oh well, he pitched a great game. Even better to see him work well with Posada. Coke's gotta do the job and keep this at a one-run game.
I'm guessing it's going to be Berroa, Matsui then Jeter next time around...hopefully the can get some hits so then can get to the top of the order after Jeter.'
I would be so pissed if they gave those bells out at Yankee Satdium. I can be imagine sitting around a group of kids with me being in the middle and hearing that all game long.
This team really needs to learn how to score without the home run ball.
Johnson does deserve some credit. He's a hell of a pitcher. He's not one of these bums that the Yanks make look great, he really is great.
Nice job coke! He's been getting better each time he's up.
The bullpen as a whole is really starting to round into form. Now, I know they'll get bombed each time out for the next few games because I had to type that, but until I jinxed them, they really were starting to turn into a pretty good pen.
SEND GARDNER!
This is a better crowd than most of the ones that have shown up it the Bronx this year.
C'mon Cap'n
Damn it Jeter, you have to get that bunt down.
Son of a bitch. Thanks Captain DP
Wow, doesn't get much worse than that Jeet. Can't get the bunt down, and then weakly ground into a DP. Awful.
With Jeter batting, why not keep the bunt on? He hits into a ton of dps so you might as well just have him continue to bunt. He's good enough that he could probably still get it down.
Anon, I completely agree.
Now Damon needs to make up for that error with a 2-out RBI.
This guy fucking blows. Let's beat him!
Cano at least needs to cut the shit of not running out ground balls.
You're right. He always sulks when he hits a ball that he thinks will be an out.
200 million dollars and we struggle against the leagues shittiest, and lowest salaries, i mean im usually pro-Yankee and all but come on now this is bullshit
But, but , but, but Posada hitting prowess is going to help our team. Oh yea, when?
But, Cashman is happy with this team. Oh really?
According to Girardi, Cano and Posada are big RBI guys. Sure they are.
What's our record since Posada returned from the DL? What was when he was injured? What was it before he was injured?
Why hasn't his .308 average helped us since Cervelli is terrible and Posada isn't?
Intriguing minds want to know.
You can say that all you want about the Nats, but Josh Johnson is nice. Still should have won were it not for Damon's defense, Jeter's/Cano's DPs.
its amazing Damon doesn't have more ERRORS then he does, I've seen handicap peole throw better then him...
lol, intriguing minds.
Mario, what did his arm have to do with that play?
Anyway, it did cost them the game.
Johnson and Burnett both pitched great. Damon made the error and them he and Jeter couldn't get that run it. That's it. This isn't that big of a deal as long as they go out and win tomorrow.
Yeah. We're only 3 out and still 8 games over .500. So, hy is everyone so down on the Yanks? Weren't they in like 4th place at this time last year, and barely over the .500 mark? They're certainly better than that this year, despite the losses to the Red Sox and Nationals.
Damon stinks as an OFer. We have the worst starting OF in all of baseball on a $200m payroll.
But, Brian Cashman is happy with this team. He's happy with his horrible SS who he will overpay next year and extend our misery. He's happy with his .213 hitting $30m third baseman. He's happy with his 6.77 ERA catcher who can't hit the broad side of barn with his awesome bat. He's happy with a DH making $10m and couldn't hit or run.
Add the new Yankee stadium fiasco into this laughable situation and its no wonder the Yankees organization is the biggest joke in MLB. This whole thing is too funny for words.
The biggest joke in the MLB? What? The Yankees, despite their recent mishaps, are still the most successful sports franchise ever.
This offense stinks. One run against a pretty good starting pitcher but a lousy bullpen. Not one of these overpaid superstars could come up with a clutch hit when we needed it. Worse still, Captain Fantastic and Robbie "I'll swing at the first pitch" Cano grounded into killer double plays. We're playing for the wild card because we can't hold a candle to the Red Sox. Sad, but true.
Jeter had a rough at bat in the 8th. He didn't get the bunt down and they he grounded into a double play. Couldn't have been much worse.
Tough loss it was a good game, Burnett deserved a win. They need to win tommorow just keep winning series.
Gardner is great he isn't even playing everyday and he is projected to steal 39 bases. That is incredible.
Anon, Johnson is more than a "pretty good pitcher." He's got an ERA in the mid 2's.
Also the Marlins middle relief is quite good. Nunez has a 3.69 ERA and Meyer has a 2.17 ERA.
Lindstrom isn't that good, though.
Johnson is an elite pitcher no shame in losing to him. If they win tommorow thats all the yankees need to do. Just keep winning series and they will be fine.
I'm not disputing that Johnson is a very good pitcher. The point I'm making is that with 2 on and no outs our so-called "superstars" should at least manage to tie the game, not try and lay down a pathetic bunt, which by the way, Jeter failed to do. Can't hit good pitchers. can't hit bad pitchers either right now. Not good enough.
