News & Notes
- Joba Chamberlain has faced the Mariners three times - all in relief, and is 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA. In 3.2 innings he's allowed a runs on five hits, walked one and struck out three.
- In seven games - one start - Brandon Morrow is 1-0 witha 4.76 ERA against the Yankees. The win coming in his only start last year in Seattle. That day he held the Yanks to just one run on one hit, walked three and struck out eight. However, in five relief appearances at the old stadium he had a 13.50 ERA. In 3.1 innings of work he got lit up for five earned on seven hits and four walks.
- The Yanks come into this game on a five-game winning streak. They had previously lost 9 of 13.
- At 43-32 the Yanks are 11 games over .500, which matches their high-water mark for the season. The last time they were 11 over was on June 8th and then immediately went on that 4-9 slide. Hopefully that's not what happens this time around.

- According to Peter Abraham, Eric Hinske's plane is being delayed so he's not with the team yet and may not be there for the game tonight. Until he arrives the Yanks will not make any roster moves.

Ahh good to have that DH spot back
WTF is wrong with Girardi? - is he hypnotized with the name Cano in the #5 spot???????????????
LOL, Girardi is such a clown. Between him and Cashman its comical sometimes. Its like they purposely want to lose and make our team worse.
8:05 first pitch.
As for Cano staying in the five spot, that's just ridiculous. Even if he goes 4-for-4 with 4 homers, it's still ridiculous.
Talk about bad managers, how do you bat a .218 hitting Ken Griffey Jr. fourth?
Montero has homered twice for Trenton tonight!
Nice!
That kid can mash... Meanwhile another kid, Joba Chamberlain, can't hit his spots again.
Where is everybody?
and Cano is 2 for 2!
Ken Griffey Jr., although I missed most of his great seasons and is really slumping right now, is one of my favorite players outside of the Yankees.
Still, he shouldn't be fifth. He can't hit with men on base.
I can't wait for them to send down Cervelli......Posada is da man!
Damn. 3-2. Joba better get out of this.
Dive Melky, DIVE!
...and there goes the lead.
Funny there is a innings limit on JOBA this season, he's taking it upon himself to limit himself, with the amount of pitches he's throwing every game, inning, etc, Hughes needs to be in the rotation, & joba in the 8th inning...JOba still walks way too many batters and too many full counts
JOBA getting rocked, 8 hits, thru 5, he's struggling...
Not just Griffey... their freaking 3 hole hitter can't even OBP over .300 .... it's bad when you can learn about OBP from Robbie.
Joba is still learning, that's quite obvious. It is tough to watch at times, though.
The Yanks need to put a crooked number on the board.
How many stolen bases on Posada that inning? Way to go Girardi and Cashman. You sure are smart.
This is weird. Teix has had a pretty good June, but hasn't hit a home run in a long time, like 3 weeks. It seems every other game he was smashing one out, hasn't been the case this month. But he's still gotten on base, which is obviously a good thing.
Come on Cano!!!
Typical ups and downs of a season. He'll start knocking them out of the park again.
See, Cano can't hit with men on base.
Cano... in the 5 hole...
Crap. We should have at 2 runs in the inning by now.
I mean if we could hit with men on base.
Sigh... this game should have been blown open already...
Damn! It should really be 5-3 or 4-3 right now. Bases loaded, none out, at least a sac fly, anything, but no, not in this situation of course.
Joba better re-direct the ship here. Get an easy inning and turn the game into a battle of the bullpens, which the Yankees just have the edge on.
YOu guys think something is wrong with joba? guy doesnt have the same stuff, i know being a starter is way diff than releiver but common, this is crazy, he just doesnt look dominant, if this is the best joba can be, than he should go back to 1 inning 100 mph!
Damn, if we could just play the Mets every day we would be awesome.
0-2 to a basehit. Two of those pitches were borderline pitches. Great job of framing Posada and getting the call..
And, Jeter didn't hit with RISP, neither did POSada or anyone else. Same old same old story.
Good thing Cashman is sending down someone who bats .353 with RISP and adding Hinske to the mix. Taht will cure our problems.
Hinke is garbage, i rather have bonds!
Joba's fastball velocity is down altogether... going to the bullpen will not make him throw 97 again as he never averaged that. If he were to go back, he'd be sitting 94.
People talk about how much better Hughes' stuff is out of the pen, but the most he gained was 2 MPH...
Oh my goodness... I didn't know Swisher had a .150 average in May...
just got home from work, but why is PENA sent down?? big bad Eric Hinske is in town i guess what a joke.
I hope Hughes can get at least 150 IP this year.
Hughes rocks.
Pena is being sent down because the genius GM thinks Hinske is better option. Is it any wonder we haven't won a playoff series in forever and our hitting with RISP sucks in forever too.
NICE A-ROD YESS
someone tell GIRARDI we are back home with the DH, and he should have left HUGHES in the game, 9 pitches to get thru the 7th, now its 3 strait hits for seattle, no outs, 1 run in, can't put em away...
i thought huges was the BRIDGE to MO, JOE you stupid fuck...
Girardi was trying to play it by the book. Put your eighth inning guy in for the eighth. I can't blame him for it.
I can only hope that someone asks JOE why he took hughes out after just 1 inning, & 9 awesome pitches...
yeah greg, but he only threw 9 pitches, come on man, & bruney hasn't looked good last couple of outtings...
He's going to say because it was the eighth and I wanted to bring in my eighth inning guy. Bruney is their setup man, him pitching here shouldn't come as a surprise to any of us.
you bettr hope we get out of this inning at worst TIED, and not way behind...
Hughes looked great, and there would have been nothing wrong with Joe leaving him out there, but it wasn't something I expected.
I can blame him. Bruney is nothign special. He's nothign special at all. Never was. And, he hasn't been good since comign back from injury.
Hughes should have stayed in. Girardi sucks as a manager. He overmanaged making too many moves and took out people who were getting outs. Girardi is just like Cashman he does everythign to make us worse.
And, POSada is just workign on giving up his usual 6 runs per game while providing no defense and no hitting.
full count, bases loaded,
I'll say this, though; after this outing I would flip flop Hughes and Bruney. From now on I'd bring in Hughes in the eighth and move Bruney down to the 7th.
why does everyone always bring up "THE BOOK" the book needs to be updated, its old ass ways suck, whatever happen to gut feelings, or what have you done for me lately?
If Hughes went two innings he would not be available tomorrow, you know that. Then tomorrow you'd complain about Girardi wasting Hughes when he could have gone to Bruney.
The only reason I said that about the book is because that's how Girardi managed the inning. Do I agree with it? Sure, why not? He went with his setup man in the eighth.
It seems Kay agrees with you guys, although I don't know if that's a good thing.
Then, of course, idiot Girardi leaves Bruney in too long. Very typical. This idiot manager doesn't leave the relievers out there that should be out there and then leaves the ones that should get pulled. Bruney's ass should be on the bench. He stinks. He has been awful since comign back from injury. Probably has to do with his big mouth. How the hell can you give a 5-3 game up in the 8th innning to the Seatle Mariners? Only Joe fuckgin Girardi and Jorge "I give up 6 runs per game" POSada.
i hate michael kay but he just made my point even more...
Geeez guys, relax. Seriously, this isn't that big of a deal.
Anyway, Yanks lead 6-5!
it will be moot point as long as we win, wow a smart move, gardner running for matsui
HELL YEAH MELKY
Come on Jeet, let's get a little insurance.
Nice!!!! 8-5 Yanks!
My only question is, is bruney the latest medical malpractice case perpetrated by the yankee coaching geniuses?
tampa has won, and baltimore is making a comeback, its now 10-8 boston in the 8th, o's have scored 7 runs last 2 innings
That could be possible Will.
Dumbass Girardi is saved again by another terrible team. This shit wont cut it vs. good teams. It hasn't before and it wont in the future.
What's retardi goign to do in the 9th? overmanage and make 4 moves.
10-9 bottom 8th, runners on first & second, 1 out, with top order coming up, GO baltimore
Anon, give it a rest.
... Meanwhile, Boston now leads 10-9 with two on and one out in the bottom of the 8th. Papelbon is coming in.
I can't wait until we play a good team then we will give it a rest....
Come on Mo!
Come on Orioles, pull this shit out of the hat....
LOL, Boston's bullpen finally epically fails.
papelbbum just blew it, baltimore leads 11-10 STILL bottom of 8th,
sweet MO # 501, who thinks MO can get to about 550 saves?
Good win!
It wasn't pretty but a win is a win is a win.
Oh, and Nick Markakis is the man.
Has there been one injury the yankees have handled well in recent memory?
I don't really think the mishandled Nady's at least not from a Yankee perspective.
Great win.
How did they mishandle Bruney's? It's not their fault he doesn't have some smarts to tell them what he feels.
They told Bruney (and Wang) not to do their normal leg exercises this off-season and Cashman said that probably didn't help either of them and may have caused Bruney's arm injury because he didn't have proper leg strength.
bwaaahahahahahahaq the red sux lost!!!
O's win! O's win!
Wow, the Red Sux blew a 10-1 lead? Amazing. Ha!
Retardi still needs to manage better. But, I'll take da win!
lol the look on papelbum's face after the blown lead is PRICELESS. he looks like a little baby, i hate that douche
Can I say that again because it felt so damn good the first time!
bwaaahahahahahahaq the red sux lost!!!
I had the pleasure of seeing the Yankee come back from 9 runs down and beat Clemens and the sox on June 26, 1987.
One of my favorite games ever. LOL
That's awesome, what a great game to go to. I just looked it up and that win actually had the Yankees tied for first with Toronto. I can't believe they won 89 games and finished in fourth place, tough league.
All you wanna-be managers piss me off.
Bruney is the 8th inning guy. He was going to be in the there. No matter who the manager was, the 8th inning guy was coming in there. Bruney has been lights out this season (except for his last outing), so there was no reason to not use him.
And if Girardi left Hughes in the game and Hughes blew it, you'd blame him for that, too.
Give it a rest. Holy shit.
And we have the second-best record in the AL and the third-best record in all of baseball...
Can we give the "this team sucks" nonsense a rest? I mean, come on... We'd make the playoffs if the season ended today.

That's just not good enough for some people, JC.
