From Marc Carig:
"I thought it was a strike," Coke said of the 3-2 fastball, which Nelson ruled missed inside against Indians leadoff man Trevor Crowe. "I wouldn't want to redo anything."First of all, what about the other three balls you threw to a .184 hitter? Was that Nelson's fault too? And second, the pitch wasn't even a strike.
...
"Fastball in," Coke said, apparently expecting the benefit of the doubt (not that he has the track record to reasonably expect such a thing). "I thought it caught the corner of the plate and had late finish in, almost a little cut at the end of it. I've done that who knows how many times before, got that kind of finish and gotten a call there. But I didn't get it this time."
I hate these umpires as much as anyone, and I think that in general they do a terrible job. That said, Coke is a 26-year-old that has done absolutely nothing in this league, and to publicly question an umpire at this stage of his career is mindless. The fact that he's crying about a pitch where the ump made the right call makes it even more of an embarrassment.

doesnt sound that bad...he thought he had it but he didnt
Do you think this is a good way to get umps to give you close calls in the future?
I agree with Greg, there's no point doing something like this, and it will only hurt him in the future.
seems like he was asked a question and gave an honest answer...dont think he was trying to bash the ump
IMO it was Gardner who blew it. Phil just added to it.

If anything, he should be mad at Posada for yet another lousy job framing the pitch.
He certainly has more of a beef with Posada than the ump, because that ball was inside by about a foot.
i really don't have a problem with what he said...he didn't bash the ump...it's not like he was out of the mound huffing and puffing...the bigger issue i think i found out why he is not pitching well...he obviously needs glasses...
I wonder if the next ump will give him that pitch that's an inch outside now?? Keep your mouth shut and keep pitching, complain to your manager and not the media when your this young and inexperienced. Hopefully he learns from this mistake as we can really use his arm in the 'pen.
lol... I just don't think it's wise to publicly question an umpire when you're a 26-year old nobody.
That's exactly how I feel, Rad.
Coke and Robertson blew the game. It was a tie game in the 9th and these two bums cant throw strikes. Next inning the yankees had the top of the order yp they would of won the game there.
Yeah id rather see them give up a big hit than walk a couple and give up a little hit
Very snazzy, Greg. I like the screen pictures.
Hahahah, thanks Steve.
