Winning pitcher - Alfredo Aceves (5-1)
Losing pitcher - Derek Lowe (7-6)
SV - Mariano Rivera (17)

After going scoreless for 14 straight innings Joe Girardi decided enough was enough and got himself thrown out of the game. The Yankees went on to score in each of the final four innings and won the game 8-4. They continued the scoring streak tonight with runs in each of their first four innings tonight, and jumped out to an 8-1 lead. I guess managers can fire up a team. Derek Lowe haven't absolutely nothing on the mound tonight didn't hurt either.

Alex Rodriguez looks like he's coming out of his slump. Tonight, he went 3-for-5 with four RBI, He also hit a solo homer with two out in the first to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. The homer was his 563rd of this career, tying him for 11th all-time with Reggie Jackson.

He would drive in two more with a big two-out single with the bases loaded in the seventh. The Yankees lead had been cut to 8-6 at that point so it was a very big hit. .... More on the blown lead shortly. ... Like a lot of teams have been doing Atlanta chose to avoid facing Mark Teixeira and walked him intentionally to face A-Rod. This time A-Rod made the other team pay.

Derek Jeter and Johnny Damon also had very big games tonight. Jeter picked up four hits and scored four times. Damon had three hits, including a big three-run triple in the top of the third. He drove in his fourth run with an RBI single in the eighth.

Cody Ransom had a nice game playing in place of Robinson Cano. He went 2-for-5 with a double, 2 RBI, and two runs scored.

It was a very rough night for Andy Pettitte who couldn't even hold a seven run lead. After getting the first two outs in the first he walked Chipper Jones and Brian McCann, and then allowed an RBI double to Yunel Escobar. Then, after a scoreless second and third everything fell apart for Andy in the fourth. By the time he was taken out of the game the Braves had scored five times and sent nine men to the plate. Andy's defense didn't help him. One pop up to the outfield fell in no-man's land, and another fell off Brett Gardner's glove for an error. His final line was pretty ugly; 3.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 95 pitches/59 strikes. Maybe the heat got to him cause he stunk tonight.

Besides David Robertson who allowed a run on three hits in a shaky two-third of an inning the bullpen did a very good job tonight. Alfredo Aceves relieved Pettitte and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings. Phil Coke was also very impressive, he struck out two and allowed just one hit in two scoreless innings. And thanks to Robertson's ineffectiveness Mariano Rivera was forced to pick up a one-out save, the 499th of his career.

Good to see the Yanks take two of three heading into the second round of the Subway Series starting tomorrow night a Shiti Citi Field. CC Sabathia says he feels fine and is ready to go for tomorrow night, he will be facing right-hander Mike Pelfrey.

As I mentioned earlier, the Yankees did get some bad news tonight from the minor leagues. Xavier Nady took himself out in the fifth inning of tonight's Scranton/Wilkes-Barre game after feeling something in his right elbow. Brian Cashman said this could be a "worst-case scenario". In other words his season might be over.

Not the cleanest played game by the yanks but who cares a win is a win and they won the braves series which was much needed.

Andy looked bad he gets 0-2 on hitters and doesn't have a put away pitch to get them out. Andy turned 0-2 counts into 3-2 counts. In the last 6 starts he only pitched 7 innings once. Andy is no longer a reliable innings eater. His pitch count was ridiculously high even before the the misplays.

I thought Gardner was playing too deep it looked like he was playing no doubles defense. Bad job by the coaches positioning him. He usually plays much more shallow at yankee stadium.

Also Damon should of caught that first pop up that was his ball where was he.

A-Rod is the straw the stirs the drink. He is the true leader and the true savior of the yankees. It is no surprise they start winning when A-Rod is hitting he makes the whole lineup go.

Yankee fans should be thankful he is on the team.

I don't know about all that, but it's good that he's hitting again.

When your #4 hitter stinks, it hurts the whole team. When he hits, it helps the whole team. A-Rod has a whole lot of hitting to catch up on, let's hope he gets hot. During the Braves' series would be a good time to start.

I've said it a million times, I am NOT happy he was given a 10-year contract. The Yankees will regret that before it's over, maybe long before. My biggest worry is he'll pull a "Giambi", and by that I mean that his body will break down early because of the drugs he was/is taking. You don't give anybody in baseball a 10-year deal. Stupid, stupid.

Steve,

Totally agree about the contract. Giving a 30-year-old a 10-year contract is amazingly stupid, I don't care how good the player is. If we get six good years out of him we should all be very happy.

The reason they did it was to ensure he broke the home-run record in pinstripes. The revenue they would bring in for that would be insane. Now with the whole admittance and growing health concerns that idea has blown up in their faces. But having the home run record holder being a Yankee is a BIG deal. For that reason I can give some credibility to the ten years.

That's true G, but from a baseball standpoint it was a horrible decision even if he had never done roids.

Feel bad for Nady. I'm sure this is not how he wanted to hit the free agent market.
