Montero Promoted to Trenton

In case you missed it in the minor league report, Jesus Montero has been promoted to Double-A Trenton. Mike Ashmore confirmed that the rumor first reported on River Ave. Blues was true, and the Yankees plan to move Montero up tomorrow. He was hitting .356/.406/.583 with 8 HR, 15 doubles, and 37 RBI with High-A Tampa.

The guy can flat out hit. Good to see him move up.

It's exciting to hear about our system building up. Possible dynasty with a lower payroll developing?

I wonder how long it'll take him to adjust hitting while being the full time catcher.

If you think about it, Cashman was very bright in how he's developing position players. Our current players at 1B, 2B and 3B are going nowhere for a long while. Cano is signed through 2011 with club options through 2013, the others have an even longer contract. Jeter is still very productive, in fact he's looking real good this season so far. So I suspect Jeter will get 2-3 more years when his contract comes up after 2010. You can always get an outfielder, and we have 3 pretty good young ones right now in Melky, Gardner & AJax. And the Yankees have Cervelli to fill in as backup to Posada, plus top-rated Montero in AA & top-rated Romine in high A.

Works for me.

I think Montero will be fine at Trenton. It will also be very good for him to get behind the plate more. Good move by the Yanks.

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the bigs by 2011.

Speaking of call ups - i wish they would reward Shelley Duncan and bring him as a right handed bat. Send Berroa down. Duncan has really been productive at SWB and I really think a right handed DH/bat would be nice
