7/20 Minor League Report

================

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will
post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (52-39) lost to Columbus (42-53) 8-1: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yanks lost their 3rd game in a row by an 8-1 score at Columbus. The loss drops the 1st place Yanks to 52-39. The only bright spots were a solo homer by Ramiro Pena, 2 perfect innings by Edwar Ramirez, and 3 hits by Colin Curtis.

PITCHING: With Sergio Mitre being called up to NY, this was a bullpen by committee game. Romulo Sanchez got the start for the Yanks. He threw a perfect 1st. He worked out of serious trouble in the 2nd after giving up a double and single to start the inning. A double play helped kill the threat. In the 2nd, Sanchez imploded after 2 men were out. A single, stolen base, balk , and 2 walks loaded the bases. A 2-run single followed by another RBI single gave Columbus a 3-1 lead. That didn't end the bloodbath in the inning though, a 3-run homer made it 6-1. Sanchez gave up a single and walk in the 4th before being yanked. 3.2 IP, 6 runs, 7 hits, 1 K---3 walks.

Anthony Claggett relieved Sanchez in the 4th with 1 out and runners on 1st and 2nd. Claggett got the final 2 outs to get out of the jam. Claggett had his own problems in the 5th, giving up 2 runs on 2 walks, RBI double, and RBI single to up the Columbus lead to 8-1. Claggett tossed a scoreless 6th inning, allowing his 3rd walk.

Edwar Ramirez came on to pitch perfect 7th and 8th innings, picking up 2 strikeouts.

OFFENSE: Ramiro Pena hit his first AAA home run in the 1st to give SWB a 1-0 lead. That was all the scoring for the Yankees. SWB had a threat going in the 4th when Colin Curtis singled and Franciscon Cervelli reached on an error, but were stranded. They threatened again in the 6th when Yurendell de Caster doubled, Curtis singled, but Cervelli hit into a DP. In the 9th, Curtis walked, Cervelli singled, again a DP ended the threat.

NOTES: Peter Abraham reports Damaso Marte will move up to SWB to continue his rehab Tuesday. Marte pitched in 2 games, 1 inning each game, with the Gulf Coast League Yankees, allowing 1 run, 2 hits, 2 K's. Kei Igawa starts Tuesday against Columbus, going for the SWB franchise career wins mark of 27 wins.

Pena played center. Anybody know how he did?

Greg Cohen said...

I haven't heard. I'll try and see if anyone has any reports on it.

I am pumped up that Pena finally played the outfield. He should play out there every game until he is brought back up the the Yanks.
