The Boss Optimistic About His Yanks

It's been a long time since we heard anything from George Steinbrenner, but in today's Post George King says that The Boss is confident the Yanks can win #27.

The Boss wants a seventh World Series ring.

In other years, George Steinbrenner wouldn't have been pleased being three games behind the Red Sox at the All-Star break and winless in eight games against the Yankees' blood rivals.

However, according to PR guru Howard Rubenstein, The Boss likes what he saw in the unofficial first half when his team, which leads the AL wild-card race, went 51-37.

"I am very pleased with the team and the spirit," The Boss said through Rubenstein yesterday. "I am hoping for another World Series ring. Tell everyone I feel great."

It's good to hear from the Big Stein, even if it is through his PR Man. I do miss the days where he would speak for himself, though. These statements through Rubenstein are too bland. You know he'd have a lot more to say if he still had his old spunk.

I booed The Boss loudly and frequently 20 years ago, & I still think he was solely responsible for the late 1980s-early 1990s collapse. But that said, George Steinbrenner's contributions to baseball are as great or greater than any other owner in the history of the game. I would like to see him be inducted into the Hall of Fame before he gets to a point where he cannot appreciate the honor.

There were certainly times that the Boss pissed me off but overall I am very happy he was the owner of the Yanks and I miss him.

I have a hard time believing anything issued by Rubenstein. These statements are way too cookie cutter to actually be George. If George wanted to issue statements he would have had plenty to say after going 0-8 against the Sox. George wasn't satisfied with a dynasty unless it won every game on the schedule, now he's ok with a possible wild card after spending $450 mill in the offseason? Magically George was all zen about the mediocrity that was the Yankee's final season at the stadium last year? Don't let Rubenstein treat you like "rubes".
