A Few Things About Last Night

Even though I was unable to post a game summary last night there are a few things I wanted to talk about regarding yesterday's 5-3 win.

A.J. Burnett had nothing but still somehow battled his way to a quality start (hate that stat) and kept the Yankees in the game. A pitcher with less overall stuff doesn't even come close to throwing that kind of game with that lack of command.

Phil Hughes continues to be a dominant late inning reliever. Two more shutout innings, six more strikeouts - yes, every out he recorded came via the strikeout, and at one point he actually hit 97 on the gun.

It was great to see Mark Teixeira start the second half with a big game. He went 3-for-5, with a homer, 3 RBI, and a run scored. The homer was a game-winning 3-run shot of Joel Zumaya in the 7th. Zumaya has always been a punk so it was great to see the Yankees knock him around the yard. He is now headed back to the DL with shoulder soreness.

Overall it was a nice win for the Yanks, who are now 52-37 and remain three games behind Boston.

Phil Hughes struck out every batter he faced.

Right you are: a great shot by Tex. It looked even better from section 204 as it sailed high to my left and then disappeared into the second deck.

Yes I realized that and corrected it.

Actually, I think Hughes had 6 Ks, instead of 4. But it's all fine, he threw the ball well, that's the bottom line.

Concerning Zumaya, I remember reading an article a few months ago about how he hated the Yankees and wanted them to do bad "as everyone else does". So that's very a propos that he gets knocked around by those "Damn Yankees".

Overall, good win, Tex is hitting for power again (remember he just missed a home run in his 2nd AB), AJ now knows how not to implode when he doesn't have command and I don't remember the last time I heard loud boos at the Stadium.

CC, it's your turn now.

Go Bombers.

Vince, he did, and it has already been corrected.

Yup, Zumaya did say that. Again, he's a punk.
