News & Notes
- Happy 233rd birthday to the United States of America.
- Chien-Ming Wang has made 9 career starts against the Blue Jays and is 4-2, with a 4.63 ERA. His last start against Toronto came on June 5th of last year, a game that saw the Jays beat up Wang for 7 runs (6 earned) on five hits and four walks in just 4.1 innings pitched.
- In 33 games (31 starts) Roy Halladay is 16-5 with a 2.79 ERA against the Yanks. In the Bronx he's 7-4 with a 2.97 ERA. And in the only time he's faced them this year, struck out five and held them to just one run in a complete game five-hitter.
- Robinson Cano is 0 for his last 15 with runners in scoring position, and on the year he's batting .208 with RISP.
- Derek Jeter has a nine-game hitting streak.
- Jays third baseman Scott Rolen has a 20-game hitting streak, the longest current streak in the AL. Hopefully The Wanger can put an end to that.

Just a brutal pitching matchup today.
It's almost not fair.
lol
Happy Birthday to the Boss!!!
Happy 233 Birthday America!!!
WTF, Direct tv, i get every fucking sports channel known to man, the MLB extra innings package, all i wanted to do was watch the game before dealing with the family today, total bullshit...why is the game blacked out....
Just put on the YES network. I don't think you need the MLB package to get that anyway.
Woo hoo, another big hit for A-Rod. Yanks lead 1-0.
Now 0-for-16 with RISP for Cano.
Wang blows.
Nice shot by Matsui. Halladay looks human so far, gotta get to him before he figures things out.
Why is Posada catching Wang again? I guess he wanted Posada to give up his usual 6 runs per game.
Why dont you try something different Girardi to see if it works.
its blacked out on the yes network,
rumors are Texas & Philly are interested in Wang, I say trade him, with the way the new stadium (HR DERBY) plays, i say dump him to texas...
drop cano to the 9 hole, now, he is the most inconsistent fool,
Way to go Jorge!! This game has a nice feel to it - Wang pitching very well, and keeping his pitch count under control.
Sigh.. Cano still in the 5th spot.
Hip Hip
When Molina comes back, who is odd man out, I'd hate to send Cervelli down
Girardi will protect Cano, saying 'I don't blame Robbie, he had the best of intentions".... damnit man...
Definitely Cervelli.
Wonder whats wrong with Wang?
No idea.
>> drop cano to the 9 hole, now <<
Do you people think before you talk? Cano hitting ninth after Gardner, Melky, Cervelli?
Think, people.
He should be dropped to sixth or seventh, and Posada should bat fifth.
I agree with that. I'd rather see Posada in the five-hole, too. And Cano hitting sixth.
But batting Cano ninth is just dumb. He's hitting .300.
Damn it Robertson, that's a huge run. Is Girardi going to let him keep going? A hit and this game is as good as over. This is a huge batter in this game and Robertson can't get his curve over.
....and now he can't get his fastball over either. Is anyone even warming up Joe?
I'm surprised Ace or Phil didn't come in....Tomko is warming up now wtf? They aren't going to win with him pitching against Roy.
Thank god he caught that
Wow, he really didn't have anyone warming. And then when he does, it's Tomko. I guess this game isn't important to Joe... Thank goodness Gardner has ridiculous speed.
Halladay has 80 pitches, so hopefully his day is almost done. We're not out yet. Only two runs.
True.
And honestly, I had this game as a loss in my head. So if they somehow pull it out, it'll just be a plus. I came into today expecting to lose. lol
Yea I know what you mean, I'm concerned about Wang, though. He was looking sharp and then got gave up the homer and simultaneously injures himself again.
Bruney has nothing once again.
Why is Phil Coke not pitching to Overbay?
They will send Cervelli down.
They wouldn't dare have a good catcher on the roster who calls a good game and has energy. It would offend Posada and his ego. Plus you have to someone batting 5t to hit into all those DP's and SO when you need a hit with RISP. I mean come on that's what Posada does. And, he does it well. Just watch and see.
Oh well, Bruney got out of it.
Everytime Robertson pitches he gives up runs. Every single friggin time. Go back to AAA.
Robertson's ERA is under three, so you'd be wrong.
Johnny!
DAMON!
That's not a homer in any other ballpark, but I'll take it!
Cano is really amazing.
Damn, Cano... trrbl
Cano needs to stop rolling over and grounding to second all the time!
He just gets lazy in the box and falls into bad habits. That's my main problem with Cano... He's freakin' lazy!
Guys, what do you think, Hughes or Mo for the ninth if it's tied?
I'd say Hughes, but he also pitched yesterday.... So I think Mo will get the ball.
But you know Mo's history in tie games!!!
You could even see from that at-bat, he just doesn't throw the ball the same way in a tie game.
He can't put people away.
BIG DP!
He got through them faily easily even with no stuff. How great is Mo?
Wouldn't it be fitting for Teixeira to win it today?
Maybe Wang's injury will explain why he hasn't been pitching good.
Hughes rocks.
Cano is killing us in the 5th hole and so wont Posada.
What an at-bat for Jeet!
Good job Jeter. Now, lets not into a DP! Get him now. What a win this would be.
That was a great at-bat for Jeter. I think they gotta send him.
Hey JC what do you suggest they do with the free swinging CANO, his inability to get RISP in is a joke...
Hit Cano sixth and Posada fifth. I certainly would bat him 9th.
come on TEX, walkoff would be nice birthday present for the BOSS
wouldn't*
Damn it, he just missed it.
And now they walk A-Rod to face Cano with the winning run on second.
Well, here's Cano's chance....
Isn't it funny how baseball works itself out?
shocker they INT BB AROD cause CANO can't hit to save his life, when there are runners on. prove me wrong you bum..
You cannot bat Posada 5th. He is a killer and a DP/SO machine. Posada is hitting .260!
This is Cashman's fault for not doing his job.
Intent walking Arod. This shows you how bag Girardi is as a manager. Get Cano out of the 5th hole. Dummy.
Hopefully facing a lefty will alter Cano's approach a bit.
OK, Anon... Who you wanna hit 5th then? Swisher? Melky? Who?
ANOTHER grounder to second.
He does the same thing every damn time.
I don't know, but KEEP putting CANO there is insane, thinking he's gonna produce, Arod gives Tex protection, AROD needs someone...
It's unbelievable. He hitting like .350 without in scoring position over the last week or so.
And if Wang is out again, what do you guys think they should do with Hughes?
Keep him in the pen or move him back into the rotation?
I dunno. Part of me want them to keep him in the pen and call up Sergio Mitre or someone like that.
I agree, Mario. I don't want Cano hitting fifth. But I don't think he should hit ninth, either.
Hey Cashman, call WASHINGTON see what it will take to get ADAM DUNN... he's no worse then Damon or Swisher in the Field, & he can crush the hell out of the ball, especially in the bandbox that is the $1.5 mistake
I kinda like Hughes in the pen, too. I guess it'll depend on how long Wang is out. If it's a season-ending kinda thing, then I think you kinda have to put Hughes in the rotation.
Adam Dunn is a lot worse than Damon and Swisher. A lot.
Dunn signed this offseason 2 yrs $20 million, so thats doable. if we take on the whole contract, shouldn't have to give up anyone above AA
Right now it might not be worth destroying the good thing they've got going with Hughes in the pen for what he could do in the rotation.
They have a tough decision on their hands.
Wow, Gardner covers a ton of ground out there. Very impressive.
Dunn is a great DH, I don't want him anywhere near the field, though.
ok, then bat matsui in the 5th spot, put cano 6th or 7th. OR for a series, jeter, damon, cano, arod, tex. experiment now...anyone have a better idea, i'm all ears
Ransom is gonna win it with a dinger. You watch. ;)
I hope you're right, JC.
Matsui in the fifth spot? I don't like that at all, personally.
I like Posada in the fifth spot. He can hit and he's a switch-hitter.
Well, so much for that... Swish is hitting.
lol, maybe he'll do something.
Someone needs to end this; I know that.
I have grilled chicken and burgers waiting!
Nice!
Couldn't ask for a nicer day, either. It's absolutely gorgeous.
Shit, stupid leadoff walk.
One more out, Coke! Then lets end this in the bottom!
Now I want this game. I came into it not really caring, but now we could easily win it...so I want it!
6 pitchers today? Girardi has serious issues with running a team and making decisions. Who do we have left becuase he used everyone?
If Posada can hit, then why isn't he? He's batting .265. Posada stinks and is an old man. But, according to Cashman all the answers are already on the roster. Ok, Cashman where are they and why haven't they worked?
They probably will have to bat Matsui 5th. But, Girardi will prolly put Posada there because he loves the old veterans and shows allegiance to them. 75 year old catchers aren't the brightest decision in the world. But, hey that's Cash and Girardi for ya.
Dude, do you ever give it a rest?
Great job by Coke. I'd really like if they can win it here. I don't want to see Tomko today.
Girardi is a LaRussa-type when it comes to the bullpen. He likes to mix and match. A lot of managers are like that; we're just not used to it yet.
And Tex is hitting like .270 compared to Posada's .265. So what's your point? Your whole team can't hit .300.
Dude do you ever give it a rest with your love affair with Posada? What the hell has he done other than mismanage a staff, play horrible defense and hit .260?
And, how the hell does Wells steal off of Posada? Gosh Posada is a liability everywhere! They gave up anotehr 5 runs today! Pathetic. This will not cut it against good teams or in the playoffs. They will abuse Posada. Everyone knows this!
Cervelli looked awful on Thursday night, of course, he hadn't caught in how long, then came back yesterday with a great performance. And, how does Girardi reward him? By starting an injured Posada who then proceeds to give up 5 more runs. Great. I would hate to be a young guy and play for Girardi.
Who's the girl with Jeter's parents?
She's freakin' cute!
Tex hitting whatever doesn't matter. Tex is 29 and Posada is 89. Cano's average is better than Posada. What does that matter. It doesn't. Posada is an old man who hits into too many DPs and is a liability behind the plate. For some odd reason, you love having Posada as your cather giving up 6 runs per game. Methinks you have an agenda.
Minka Kelly.
I sat behind her at a game once, she's even hotter in person.
Man, I wanna be Derek Jeter just for like two weeks. LOL
haahahaha
Dude, you're the one who's using Posada's average against him. So it obviously matters to you.
Great... Brett Tomko time.
At least we have Tex and A-Rod up next inning. So even if we're down a run, we tie it with a blast.
I will be shocked if he can get through these three.
One down...
Two...
Don't know if you guys have been watching any of the other sports outlets but Steve McNair was found dead with a shotgun wound to the head. Cops are still investigating.
Phew! He did it.
No end it!
Wow, I'm shocked.
... That was close.
Holy shit. Wow... That's nuts.
Yea Tex! Winning run on second with a leadoff double off the first base bag.
Cano... ANOTHER chance. He needs to come through.
Wow the gods have given Cano another chance. If he's smart he lays a perfect bunt down and gets the winning run to third.
He can't even lay down a bunt! And it was on 3-0!!
WTF?!
Wow, terrible. The question is who missed the sign.
If Cano did that when he wasn't supposed to, he needs to be benched. Seriously.
You know what, forget that, you don't need a sign to know not to bunt 3-0.
On a 3-0 pitch. Girardi's ass should be canned. And, if we had Pena, he could PH and play the field. Imagine that!
YES POSADA WINS IT!
Oh, look! Jorge!!
Yeah, he's so freakin' terrible!
Even tho I dont' like you Posada. Thank you for doing something finally!
Of course, of course JC, tell us how great Posada is becuase the ONE time he did something. Dont' tell us about the other 50 times he doesn't. LOL. Libtards are all the same. Apartheid preachers who can't think and who use the exception to overthrow the rule.
The real quesiton is should Cano be benched for his dumb move?
Hahaha nice job by Burnett and Joba with the pie.
Benched? Maybe. It depends how he handles it. Kay always tells that story about Jeter making the third out at third in a game as a rookie and immediately going over and sitting near Torre. Hopefully Cano understands his mistake. What worried me more is the hitting with RISP.
Today was another big win. We beat Halladay and we're already guaranteed a split.
Posada!!!...hip hip....jorge...
I'm down here in south Jersey listening to the game on the radio & at the end of the game Suzyn Waldman interviewed the star of the game--- A-Rod!!
You know, we really need a new radio team.
Hey, you guys watching the game on TV-- what was up with Cano's bunt? Do you think he was doing that on his own? What a terrible move, for a guy who can't bunt to save his life!!
Meanwhile GREAT game, and a big "SO THERE" to everyone who thought Wang vs Halladay was a lost cause. Hopefully Wanger is just giving us a scare, like CC did last week.
Yea, sadly it looked like he didn't realize you don't bunt on a 3-0 count. With a player like Cano you would think Girardi would have given him the take sign.
Also-- What a GREAT performance by our relief staff!! To me that may be the real story about this team lately. If our relief staff continues like this for the second half, the Yankees will be rockin'!
Greg, you know, all these years watching baseball & I will never understand how these high-talented professional baseball players can be sooo stupid sometimes (Cano)
I missed most of Girardi's press conference. Did they ask him about Cano's at-bat in the 12th?
yes...he said that someone misunderstood something...
"someone"
That's a good question, JC. The press usually softballs their questions.
This game highlighted the difference between Cano and Pedroia. Pedroia has nowhere near the natural gifts of Cano but he plays harder than anyone on the roster to prove he belongs in baseball. Cano just gets by on god given talent and does nothing to enhance it with real work. If Cano actually gave a shit he would be the best 2nd baseman in baseball.
Pedroia is not the best 2B in baseball. Utley says hello.
Agreed, I think Utley is the best in baseball too.
Anyway, thanks for the over 130 comments, hope everyone one had a happy and healthy fourth.
