News & Notes
- Chien-Ming Wang played catch today at Yankee Stadium and felt pain. He's been shutdown until Friday, and according to Peter Abraham, Joe Girardi implied that it might be a rotator cuff issue. Here's what Tyler Kepner had to say on his Twitter page:
don't expect Wang back for a while, if at all. Tenderness while playing catch today."...for a while, if at all. ..."
Bad news.
- Andy Pettitte has faced the Orioles 35 times in his career, and is 25-6, with a 3.73 ERA. In the Bronx he's 10-2 with a 2.76 ERA in 14 starts.
- Baltimore's 24-year-old rookie, David Henandez, will be making the sixth big league start of his career tonight. Overall he's 4-4, with a 3.94 ERA in his rookie campaign.
- The Yankees have won six of the nine games against the O's this year, including the last four in a row.
- In their last 21 games they're 16-5, and currently they're 1 games behind the Red Sox for first place.
- In their last 32 home games the Yankees are 23-9.

I will always blame Interleague Play and the idiotic NL's lack of a DH for what has happened to Wang. What a shame.
Wang's pretty much done for the year. We need to just accept it. The question now is whether he'll ever be the same again.
The Yanks need to start looking at options for a fifth starter? Put Hughes back in the rotation or do you go out and get someone?
let's try out mitre and hope he's half as good as he is in SWB
Does bad news on Wang equal good news for the Yankees in 2009?
Maybe.
Addition by subtraction? Maybe. But I can't help but remember the pitcher Wang was before he was injured.
Maybe we should give Moose a call. Just spitballing here...
Alright, so here's my Yankee to Watch this series, up with the bases loaded and two out.... Come on Robbie!
Oh well. At least he threw almost 40 pitches.
Hinske! Man, he's making Cashman look good with his trade.
Re wang, I think yankee management is completely toxic to player health. So is anyone going to report how he injured his shoulder. Ill posit a theory - because management is morons including girardi who ignored specific orders to rest arod periodically they pushed wang to fast insisting he start even though he was not throwing nearly as hard as before. Put in this situation wang a tough athlete like any good athlete wants to prove he's a winner and over throws to try to make up for leg strength. Bang, good bye shoulder.

Ironically I now can't enter my name from my google phone on this google blogging platform.
It's hard not to blame the Yankees on this one. They were the ones who mishandled the injury the whole way through. From telling him not to work on his leg in the offseason, up until not giving him enough rehab games.
At least Pettitte is pitching a good game.
Good game for Andy, but leaving with 2nd and 3rd with two out is a killer. Hopefully Coke can get out of this, but it's going to be tough with Markakis and Jones coming up.
Holy shit that was awesome!
You have to love Mark Teixeira, the guy saves multiple runs/errors a game. There's another one. Great tag by Molina too.
.... OHHHH another great play by Molina to end the inning. WOW, great defense by the Yanks.
Damn, talk about some good glove work there in the 8th! Two outs at the plate!
How often do you see two put outs in a row at home plate?
Well that was quick. OK, one more shutout inning and then we can walk off.
That didn't hit him.
Good jobby coke - but he should review that play and practice it more - he chased the player when what he really should do is keep the glove right at the edge of the plate and wait for the runner to come to him. The runner nearly snuck a hand or foot in. If coke keeps the glove at the plate then its much easier and the runner has no chance. Again great play, but worth just revisit to play it even tighter.

That's true, Will.
.. Alright, great job by Aceves, now they need a run.
Wow good shift by baltimore - had arod played perfect.
-will
Wow!
Will
WOOO HOOO! Nice shot by Matsui!
Yanks win 2-1! (again)
Funny game with the helmet - like a bridels bouquette
-will
Forgive the spelling
I think AJ should be required to make a real pie before each game.
-will
Hahahaha, A-Rod got pissed that Melky got the helmet.
A Thrilla from Godzilla lol
So who was it bitching about home runs at NYS?
-will
Now the Rangers have to beat Boston.
The wall in right field is still about nine feet shorter than the old place in the gaps, that needs to change. But if the pitchers pitch well the HR numbers will go down.
I obviously have no complaints and would leave it right where it is. Yankees can buy great pitching its an advantage and I hate NL parks/running game.
Does Posada make those plays?
Something tells me that I dont think so
OH MY GOD ITS GODZILLA!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, the HR numbers at Yankee Stadium have gone down recently. And the ones that have been hit recently would have been out of any park. But yeah they sill have to do something.
Great win for the Yanks. What was funny was that I relized the first 5 minutes after Matsui's hr, A.J. was no where to be seen. I thought, come on, where's the pie, and sure enough, he closed in on Hideki and got him right in the face. You gotta love A.J....
There were a couple hit this weekend that would have been outs everywhere else including the old place. A-Rod's against Verlander sticks out as one.
.. By the way the Rangers now lead the Sox 6-2. in the bottom of the sixth.
Yeah that one defenitely would have been a fly out, but I'm talking about Teix's hrs and Hinske's and Matsui's tonight . Those were absolute bombs.
Any shot yanks land Halladay?
Probably not Omar. I don't think the Jays are going to be trading within the divison, and the Yanks don't seem they'll be in the race anyway.
I wish they would get him, but don't expect Doc in pinstripes any time soon.
Just got home from the game... made kick ass time getting home.
A thrilla... by Godzilla!!!!
Wooohooo.... I'm going out for a drink with some friends to celebrate.
YANKS!!!
Nice win by the Yanks!
I've got to think Wang is toast....
Mike
It was so much fun to be at the game.
With Wang out for the season probably, they definitely should start considering an Aaron Harang type pitcher.
Great win tonight, glad you had a great time at the game, Mike.
It was a great game to be at. The Yankee defense was great tonight. Jeter made a great play, Cano made a nice play and so did Melky. Plus turned a few of double plays.
But the best was the top of the 8th inning. Runners on second and third with one out. The Stadium was electric after the two plays at the plate and you just knew they were going to win it.
I went with my assistant who is a mets fan. His father is a big Yankee fan so he has been at Yankee Stadium four times already, twice with his father and twice with me and the Yanks are 4-0.
Anyway, he has been to a lot of games and has amazingly never been to an extra inning game.
It looked like he might finally see one. Then a stat flashed on the board as Matsui got up and it had his career numbers for July.
I think he was batting well over .300 and had 30 homers and 96 rbi's.
I said, "I hope the next time it shows that stat, it says 31 and 97."
It will.
Just as Mike N. said, it was fun to be at the game. I'm still buzzing.
Yanks are in first place!!!
