News & Notes

- According to Peter Abraham, the Yanks sent Chien-Ming Wang for a second opinion on his shoulder today and there was no improvement. Wang "said he is 'worried.' And the "Yankees are expected to issue an update before the evening is out."

- In 16 career starts against the A's CC Sabathia is 3-7, with a 6.26 ERA. He had a very rough start against them earlier this season in the Bronx. That day he allowed 7 runs (6 earned) on 6 hits, walked 4, and struck out 2.

- Vin Mazzaro is making his first career start against the Yankees, and only the tenth start of his career. So far the 22-year-old Jersey native is 2-6, with a 4.09 ERA. He grew up a Yankees fan.

- The Yankees have swept three out of the last four series.

- In their last 24 games they're 19-5, and they're now two games ahead of the Red Sox for first place. They're 13-5 in July and they've also won six in a row overall. And since A-Rod returned they're 44-22.

- In their last 35 home games the Yankees are 26-9.

- Alex Rodriguez has started to heat up again, he's 6 for his last 18 with 2 homers, 5 RBI, and 2 stolen bases.

- Since May 13th Brett Gardner is hitting .315 with 3 HR, 15 RBI, and 25 runs scored.

- The forecast for tonight's game looks terrible, so tonight could be a rain out.

Doesn't look like there'll be a game today.

I'd be shocked if they got this one in. They should just call it now.

They need to get this one in, we can't afford a double header

JC said...

Why can't we afford a double-header?

Greg Cohen said...

I'm with JC on this. Why would a doubleheader on Saturday be so terrible?

I've heard people say that this would mean they'd need a starter or something. In fact Pete Abe mentioned it would mean Igawa would have to pitch. And that's not true at all.

If tonight is canceled CC would start tomorrow and Joba pushed back to Saturday's opener. Pettitte can pitch in game two on Saturday night.

What's the big deal?

@ Greg

Yanks dont have off days. Who is going to pitch Monday against Tampa Bay. CC going on 3 days.

Greg Cohen said...

Ahhh yes, good point. I stand corrected. But still, who cares? They can survive one game of Ivan Nova or Kei Igawa.

Anonymous said...

If they do have a DH then I would skip Sabathia. Have Igawa face Oakland. And use Sabathia on Monday against Tampa.

Greg Cohen said...

I wouldn't be against that.

Anonymous said...

Swisher can always pitch.

CollinM said...

This is more than a bit ridiculous. They are never going to get this game in, let the guys go home and rest up.

MLB needs to impose a set time limit for a rain delay to begin a game. How long is too long?

according to the YESNetwork twitter approx. start time is 9:40.

Greg Cohen said...

And two and a half hours later we have baseball... woo hoo!

Mario said...

it looks alittle windy,My wife thinks CC looks like he has MC HAMMER pants on, they are so baggy

daneptizl said...

late night... a blowout would make it easy...

Greg Cohen said...

True. I hope CC throws a gem.

daneptizl said...

The blowout isn't off to a good start...

Greg Cohen said...

True. It's possible that Mazzaro pitches the game of his life. We've seen hometown kids come back and do it before.

Greg Cohen said...

Why can't CC pitch against the A's?

JC said...

Why do the Yanks always seem sluggish after rain delays? And CC never seems to pitch well after rain delays, either.

Mario said...

2 things about that play annoy me, #1, cano never hustle's out of the box regardless where the ball is going, #2. new stadium sucks...

JC said...

The Yankee Stadium walls are way too hard. A ball hits off them and bounces back about 15 feet. They need more padding out there.

Greg Cohen said...

I'm starting to wish more and more that this game had been rained out.

Mario said...

with advance scouting, why do "WE" have so much trouble with rookie or young starters??????

Mario said...

B-E-A-U-T-I-F=U=L

Mario said...

come on Alex, how bout babk to back

Mario said...

there we go, the youngster is getting rattled, come on, lets bail out CC again,

daneptizl said...

I guess being the second best against rookie pitchers is no good.

Greg Cohen said...

Nice rally... Now if only CC could figure out how to pitch tonight.

If I was Wang I would hire my own medical and rehab team and complete cut the yankees retard coaches out the decision and rehab process. This is a collasal failure of the coaching team to bring one of their best pitchers to the brink of missing basically an entire season. If you are an average joe and managed something this terribly you would likely be severely repremanded if not fired. Its pathetic and inexcusable given how much money the yankees have and I would like.to see someone fired for it. But they won't be because management at the yankees is like management at the federal reserve, they are the worst decision makers in their class and then act like nobody couldhave done better. Bah! I feel bad for Wang, cashman and co really hosed him and it was obvious they were doing so.

The "Put it in the books" youtube video from the Castillo cracks me up every time. I just watched it again today. LOL

"it looks alittle windy,My wife thinks CC looks like he has MC HAMMER pants on, they are so baggy"

Yeah, when it's windy CC looks like his pants were borrowed from an America's Cup race.

daneptizl said...

Robertson/Melancon/Bruney aren't even really needed right now...

Greg Cohen said...

One of them might be tonight.

daneptizl said...

That cutter was philthy.

Greg Cohen said...

Another nice win for our Yanks, 2.5 up!

crossfire said...

Nice win. I'll be tired at work tomorrow but it was nice to see a win!

CC started out bad but got it together to pitch 7 innings.

Hughes gets his first save!
