omg - Cody as SS!!! please bring up Pena!

Greg Cohen said...

I agree, hopefully this plan they have for Pena pays off. Otherwise they're wasting their time.

crossfire said...

I completely agree. I'm not sure how many games Pena has played in the outfield in the minors but I supported the move because I thought he would play there a lot.

But he hasn't played there much. I think last night's game might have been his third at CF and I don't think he has played either corner outfield position. I could be wrong but lets just say it hasn't been many.

If they are going to leave the kid down there, play him in the outfield every single day and not just in center.

If they aren't playing him in the outfield, bring him up to the Yanks. I'd much prefer to see him playing short today than Ransom.

Nice slide by Gardner to break up the DP. I love the way this team is playing the game.

This aught to be like tball off gonzalez. These basement teams give the impression that the yankees might never lose again.

Greg Cohen said...

lol at least the swept the Tigers, they're a first place team (in a bad division).

rob said...

im assuming theyre just giving jeter the day off at short by putting ransom in and that its not injury-related.

Greg Cohen said...

Andy looks like he's got his best stuff today.

Greg Cohen said...

Yes Rob, it's just so Jeter can have half a day off.

Mario said...

yes the pregame show, kim jones noted that AROD will be DH or have tomorrow off , yanks in midst of 33 games in 34 days... gotta give days off here and there to keep fresh for the stretch,

Mario said...

i hate these sat. DAY games, again its blacked out on the YES, & FSN WEST, so i'm stuck to online...

Mario said...

does anyone else think that it helps ANDY when he works quickly, kinda like Buerhle does for the white sox... don't give the batters time to settle in?

Greg Cohen said...

Do you have the MLB.TV package?

Greg Cohen said...

Working quickly is always good for a pitcher.

Mario said...

nope, well, guess i can attempt to do some other stuff around the house...

Brian Danuff said...

Wow Andy is DEALING through the first 3 innings.

Mario said...

is the game on the radio anywhere?

Anonymous said...

Yes, and these are the games to rest them big series against TB and BST coming up this month. Add toronto too if you think they have anything left.

My conscious mind knows detroit is in first. My emotional mind thinks they're in last. This is why I don't really like this tri-division structure. They should ditch both the interleague play and go. Back to two divisions, then allow first and second place teams to make the playoffs.

Greg Cohen said...

The games on WCBS in NY, not sure if you can get it anywhere else.

Will, good idea.

Greg Cohen said...

YB, he really is. Best stuff he's had all year.

Anonymous said...

Yankees, its ok to start hit this guy.

Then do best record matchups for the first round of playoffs. So if NY n BST had the best league records they would each play a team from the west, setting up a possible inner division league champion matchup should they both beat their first round opponent. Basketball and hockey playoffs make the regular season seem pointless because they end up just doing round robins in the division - which then feels like a do over of the season - and allows no bitter rivalries for the most important games.

Greg Cohen said...

Any of you guys old enough to remember when they didn't even have divisions and the LCS? Just two leagues, and the winners go to the World Series.

I'm too young, but that must have made the series really special.

Anonymous said...

Uh oh, looking like another one of those days where the yanks make some chump look like cy young.

W

Greg Cohen said...

Gonzalez is dealing.

Anonymous said...

This Gonzalez guy is flat out putridly awful (2.3 whip - that's absurdly unheard of), and we can't even get a hit off the guy. Ugh.

Mario said...

this is getting ridicously absurd, come on guys, ok, 3rd time thru order, better get crap together..

Anonymous said...

Is he throwing well, all I have are these little text updates. (I can bring myself to put on john and suzan - feh)

W

Anonymous said...

CANT

Anonymous said...

Oh ok time to jinx this shit.... Gonzalez is throwing a no hitter.

W

Anonymous said...

I guess he has some decent stuff, but honestly, the Yankees are either chasing bad pitches, or getting ahead in the count and swinging at a pitch that's not in their wheelhouse.

They've also hit a couple balls pretty hard for outs.

They should be ripping this guy, even with a B-lineup.

Greg Cohen said...

If I were Gonzalez I'd hit Melky the next time he comes up.

Nice bunt, though.

Anonymous said...

Buy me a coke

W

Emmanuel said...

Why is Cody Ransom still on this team?

Greg Cohen said...

No idea Emmanuel, no idea.

Anonymous said...

Bring back veras!

W

Anonymous said...

In a 0-0 ballgame, Melky has every right, and is SMART to break it up with a bunt. Nothing dirty about it.

As for this Gonzalez guy, he's really starting to get on my nerves the way he's throwing the ball. This is a guy that came in with a nine ERA, and nearly twice as many hits as innings. Come on guys, bust into this guy.

Anonymous said...

Haha that's more like it, that a boy Brett

Greg Cohen said...

YEA BRETT!!!

RBI TRIPLE FOR GARDNER, YANKS LEAD 1-0!

crossfire said...

Atta boy Gardy!!!

Anonymous said...

Crap tex hits it hard and it goes RIGHT to 2nd. yuuuuck

crossfire said...

Damn, they should have gotten that second run in.

Anonymous said...

son of a. We can't hit a ball where they ain't. Thankfully Brett did. Stick with it Andy.

Mario said...

thas a big run we just left at 3rd...

Anonymous said...

sighhhhhhhhhh

We could really use a DP now

Greg Cohen said...

Andy needs to roll two right here...

Greg Cohen said...

And Andy wins the battle with Cust. One out...

Anonymous said...

ok, got one, now the DP, come on baby

Anonymous said...

son of a BITCH so freakin close to a DP dammit

Greg Cohen said...

OK Joe, now you can go get Pettitte.

Anonymous said...

are you kidding me Crosby, holy freakin crap.

Anonymous said...

this is all on the offense, honestly. They should have more runs, and that inning wouldn't have played out that way.

Aceves coming in, has to wiggle out of this.

Greg Cohen said...

If they can get out of this with it either 2-1 A's or the game still tied I wouldn't be too concerned.

Greg Cohen said...

Well there's one very quick big out.

Anonymous said...

oh BIG OUT come on Alfredo. one more baby come on

Anonymous said...

Did suzyn waldman just say that joe torre was coming out of the dugout to get pettitte? I swear she said torre...

Emmanuel said...

Wow

Greg Cohen said...

Damm, two-run single for Powell. 3-1 A's.

Anonymous said...

oh dammit. Just a flat out terrible 0-2 pitch.

Anonymous said...

What is it with us and not being able to get out back-up catchers this year.

Emmanuel said...

Didn't I say they should've saved some of those hits yesterday Greg.

Greg Cohen said...

Emmanuel, Gonzalez is pitching a great game. There is no such thing as "saving hits".

Anonymous said...

oh my god. I guess we were due for a day of bad luck. this sucks.

Greg Cohen said...

Come on Aceves you have to limit the damage there. Bad, bad outing.

Now I'm concerned.

Emmanuel said...

Son of a bitch, well let's see if they have another comeback in them.

Greg Cohen said...

And that's the ballgame. Great fucking job Aceves.

Anonymous said...

Well, that just might do it. It's not the end of the world, all streaks must end, but it's just the way this game played out that drives you nuts. Such a winnable game, one strike away from being in good shape to win one. Oh well.

Maybe there's another late inning miracle in the bats

Mario said...

girardi still doesn't know how to use a bullpen, aceves is getting overused, this sucks FUBAR

Greg Cohen said...

If they were only down two I'd actually be convinced they were still going to win, but down 5 with 9 outs left is going to be tough.

Emmanuel said...

Well it had to end sooner than later. Now we just gotta hope Boston loses today.

Anonymous said...

Gio Gonzalez gives up 6 runs in his next start over 4 innings. Mark it down.

bruceb said...

Stuck in an office working on a beautiful day, but sounds like I picked the right game to miss. Ace had to crack some time...had a bad feeling when I saw today's lineup. Puts a lot of pressure on Tex and A-Rod to come up with the big hits. Still, at least Rays are losing. We'll get em tomorrow. 9-1 would represent a fantastic homestand. 8-2 would take a bit of the gloss off it.

Emmanuel said...

Come on one swing away.

Mario said...

ok, time for some walkoff magic

Mario said...

damit jorge,

bruceb said...

That sucks. Worse still, Rays have come from 9-1 down to make it 9-9 in Toronto with two homers. What price the Blue Jays winning now? 1,000-1?

Kevin said...

well i hope i wasnt the only one who saw that posada DP coming a mile away...

-------------------------

Agreed even if he blew the lead that is fine just limit the damage. He has to get Cabrera out that double scored two runs which eventually won the game. Yanks down 4-1 compared to 6-1 is a whole different ball game.

Aceves has done a great job in the bullpen. But I think his strength in the bullpen is being able to give you multiple innings. He is a contact pitcher not a strikeout pitcher, so in those kind of situations he will have some problems. Thats why I still feel like Bruney is still an important part of the bullpen. He threw well today which is a good sign. Bruney is a strikeout pitcher if he gets back to his old form he would be better in some situations than Aceves.
