News & Notes

Break up the Yankees:
In their last 29 games they're 23-6, and they're now two and a half games ahead of the Red Sox for first place. They're 16-6 in July and since Alex Rodriguez returned they're 48-23.

- Since May 13th the Yankees have a team ERA of 3.68, and have held opponents to a .239 batting average.

- The Yankees are second in the American League with a 26-21 record on the road, behind only the Angels who are 28-20.

- A win tonight (or tomorrow) would give the Yanks their ninth series win out of their previous ten.

- In his career CC Sabathia has faced the Rays 12 times and is 7-1, with a 2.63 ERA. He faced them once this year, back on June 6th, and went 8 innings allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits, walked three, and struck out five in a no decision. In Tropicana Field CC is 2-1, with a 3.77 ERA in six starts.

He's made two starts since the all-star break and is 2-0, with a 1.93 ERA.

- In 13 games (12 starts) against the Yanks in his career Scott Kazmir is 5-4, with a 2.65 ERA. He faced them and beat them on April 13th in Tampa. That night he went 6.2 innings and allowed three runs on six hits, walked one, and struck out six.

He has struggled lately, going 0-3, with a 7.50 ERA in his last seven starts. His last win came back on May 9th in Boston against the Sox.

- The Yankees are 21-11 against left-handed starters this season. That's the third best record in the majors behind only the Angels (20-10), and the Phillies (22-11).

Its time to bury the Rays

Aceves it out today again because he is tired. I dont understand why he is tired. Maybe he isn't built to pitch everyday. I keep thinking the yanks should trade for a bullpen arm and put Aceves as the 5th starter or the one to replace Joba when he hits his innings limit. Instead of trading for a marginal starter like Ian Snell or Arroyo.

Look at Aceves game log the last few weeks. He hasn't really worked that much.

JUL 09 @MIN 65 pitches
JUL 18 DET 14 pitches
JUL 20 BAL 11 pitches
JUL 21 BAL 12 pitches
JUL 25 OAK 13 pitches

CC doesn't look sharp at all tonight.

Capone said...

No, he doesnt look sharp. But the Defense is whats killin us. Rays should have 1 run, not 3

tis early still

Damon is killing us at the plate & in the field, his defense was overlooked when he was getting on base and hitting, last nights game not withstanding, those are becoming fewer and more far in between, His weakass arm & ability to play avg LF is killing us... thank god he's gone after this year...

Ugly game ... terrible defense all around.

Greg Cohen said...

Swisher has been a lot worse than Damon has tonight.

Mario said...

well my point is, swisher was a backup/bench player going into the season, Cashman & girardi was hoping Damon could be an everyday player, Swisher was thrown in to lineup more then he should have been W/ nady's injury,

Greg Cohen said...

I see.

Greg Cohen said...

Anyone watching Buehrle? He's perfect through 5.1.

Greg Cohen said...

Ahhh damn it, he walked Casilla with two out in the sixth, and then gave up a single to Span. He set a new MLB record with 45 consecutive batters retired.

Capone said...

Giveaway Night at the Trop. Cant give away 4 runs and expect to win. No offensive threat whatsoever either. Nothing we right

I guess we were due for one of these nights

went*.....ooops

well Papelbon just blew the save for boston, its 7-7 going to bottom of 9th with the help of 2 errors by ex yankee NICK GREEN, wonder if this will speed up there pursuit of a SS in a trade

Greg Cohen said...

8-7 A's in the 11th!

crossfire said...

Bwaaahahahahahahahahaha

Boston blew it. They lost!!!

Greg Cohen said...

What a break for the Yanks.

crossfire said...

Papelbitch gave up 3 runs in the ninth!!! LOL

The A's scored 2 in the 11th to go up 9-7.

Then in the bottom of the 11th, the red sux had first and second with no outs and sac bunted the guys to second and third.

Ellbury grounded out to first and a run scored to make it 9-8.

Then Pudroia flied out to end it.

Thank you A's!!!

crossfire said...

You're not kidding Greg. I was in a shit mood all night because the Yanks were playing like crap and the red sux were winning but now I'm in a great mood.

I thought for sure the A's were going to blow it in the 11th.
