Heyman: Yanks Might Consider Joba for Halladay

This is from Jon Heyman's Twitter page (hat-tip to Zell's Pinstripe Blog):
#yankees might - repeat, might - consider giving up joba for #halladay. but wont entertain request of joba & hughes.
But earlier in the day he had this interesting Tweet:
#jays suggested today to #yankees it would take joba, hughes and 2 more for #halladay. does NOT look good for yanks.
There is no way I would do anything close to Joba+Hughes+two more for Halladay. I wouldn't trade Hughes and Joba for Halladay in a two-for-one. And clearly the Yankees wouldn't either. But would I trade Joba plus another lower level prospect or two for Halladay if the Jays lowered their asking price (which likely will happen)? Now, that's a tough one.

Luckily this will all be decided this week, so there is an end to this soap opera in sight. But if you're Brian Cashman and J.P. Riccardi calls you up and says Joba + two prospects not named Jackson, Montero or Romine do you make pull the trigger?

Not for 1 1/2 seasons of Halladay I don't.

And frankly, I am not real keen on getting Halladay anyway. Giving up the house for a 32 yr old pitcher is a move the Yankees made in the 1980s. Temporary fixes with big-name ballplayers give short-term gratification, then leave you asking yourself why you did it a couple of years later.

I don't think this makes any sense whatsoever. Joba and Phil should be untouchable. I know getting Doc would be great, but be realistic. Joba would just be the start, Joba/Montero/Jackson/Melky would probably be what the Jays want.

Joba, to me, is also more valuable then Doc. Joba can be put either in the Roto or the 'Pen and is light years younger then Doc, so we'd be facing him more then the Jays would be facing Doc.

Quite frankly the Yankees need to stop looking for big name fixes, go out and acquire someone like Jarrod Washburn, Paul Maholm these guys would be legit 4/5 starters who would be just what we need in the back-end of the roto.

Paul Maholm is an interesting idea. His era has lowered over the last 3 seasons or so from high 4's to mid 3's.

Riccardi has already been told by his owners that do not trade with in the division.
This is moot (these Yankee trade ideas/packages).
So the bottom line is no one is trading a bunch oftop prospects for him. Even Philly has backed off. and they NEED him.
Agree with you can't wait til July 31 so I can stop hearing about Halladay.

I would love to have him but I don't want to give up good young prospects for him, as long as he doesn't go to the RED SUX or ANGELS, i'll be happy. Please send him to Philly...

Yankees acquire Roy Halladay for Austin Romine, Jesus Montero, Joba Chamberlain, Brett Gardner and Dellin Betances.

Anonymous, first of all, no they didn't. Second, I wouldn't do that trade in a million years.

Other Anon, that's just a rumor. I'm sure if they don't have any better offers on the table they'd trade within the division.

SteveB, that's the one thing holding me back on the deal too, his age. Most pitchers tend to start their decline at or around 32.

Maholm does not have a mid 3 ERA... his ERA this year is 4.63...

But re: the Joba trade... I don't think it would just be Joba and two players not named those you mentioned, just because they freaking asked the Phils for Drabek, Happ, and Brown... that's way too much if I'm the Phils.

I don't think there is any way we are going to get him. If the Jays trade within the division, they are going to want to rape the farm system. Look what they asked the Phils for.

I don't want to give up the farm for Halliday. And remember, he is only signed for this year and next and the Jays won't let anyone negotiate with him before the trade.

Maybe we can make an offer like the typical idiot that calls into the WFAN would...

Melky, Igawa, Ransom, Kennedy, a couple of prospects and cash for Halliday.

its not about quantity its about quality.

Heyman said on WFAN that no yankee person told him they would give up Chamberlain. That was Heyman speculating because he doesn't like Joba.

Heyman said Chamberlain, Jackson and Montero for Halladay that would get it done.

I agree. I always laugh when I hear people calling into WFAN of ESPN with those ignorant trades. It's as if they think that five average to below average players and maybe a little cash must be as good as one great player.

The Jays want quantity and quality and what they are asking for is too much.

if Cano could learn some patience at the plate, he'd be unstoppable...

Cano goes thru spells, he'll take pitches then turn into Alfonso 2.0 out there.

If the Yankees got Halladay, they would be getting the best pitcher in baseball for this October and next October!! He would put them over the top!! We havnt won in 8 years, its a move we have to make!!

I would first see if taking Vernon Wells would make the deal a little cheaper for the Yankees...anyway if push comes to shove...I would trade Hughes, Montero, Romine, Pena for Halladay and Scott Downs!!
