Theo Epstein and co. were very busy today as the Red Sox were able to pull off two trades. Earlier this afternoon they acquired first baseman Adam LaRoche from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates will receive minor leaguers RHP Hunter Strickland and SS Argenis Diza. LaRoche is hitting .247/.329/.441 with 12 HR and 40 RBI in 87 games this year for the Pirates. He's a lifetime .269/.338/.486 hitter.
Later in the day they traded little used SS Julio Lugo to the Cardinals for outfielder Chris Duncan. Shelley's brother is hitting .227/.329/.358 with 5 HR and 32 RBI in 87 games f0r the Cards this season.The two moves combined add some much-needed depth to the Sox bench and will probably help them a bit offensively, but these moves hardly worry me.

So long as the Yankees' pitching staff continues as they have been, and if maybe Bruney can get his act together, the Yankees will continue to roll.
One thing that hasn't been discussed much is that Wakefield is on the DL now for a bad back. Bad backs have a way of lingering, and Wakefield is no spring chicken. I think the Sox are in trouble.

Yeah this is definetely not the kind of move that's going to do anything to the standings. Lugo and Duncan was like trading poop for a skunk.

Both Lugo and Duncan suck. But this is a good trade for the sox just because Lugo out sucks Duncan.
It looks like the Red Sox are getting close to getting Victor Martinez for John Van Every, Buchholz, and CHRIS DUNCAN?!?!?

Why would Boston trade Buchholz? But I don't think that trade won't happen because that is not a good group of players the red sox are giving up.
If the Sox want to trade Bucholtz+ more for a rental DH like Victor Martinez, be my guest
I agree with Mike. V-Mart will help them this year, maybe a lot. But is he really worth Buchholz?
The Pirates really amaze me. Any player you want they are willing to trade. They gave away Jason Bay, Nady, Marte, McLouth etc just like that.
