Wang was told by doctors that the pain was normal for a pitcher rehabbing a strained shoulder, so the righthander remained cautiously optimistic about returning to the mound in 2009.
"It's not too bad," Wang said through an interpreter. "If everything goes fine, I should be able to pitch this season."
With the way Joba and Pettitte have started their second halves, Wang injury becomes a little less significant, but getting him back at some point would still be very important for this team. Here's hoping what the doctors told Wang was true, and he can get back at some point this year.
What do you guys think?

He aint coming back.
Ummm, ok. Dr. James Andrews, is that you?
I'm actually somewhat surprised more people don't have something to say about this... Oh well.
you love to harass people about cherry picking, but then you say that wang's injury becomes less significant because pettitte and joba have done well in one start apiece.
that aside i just hope he can come back in a few weeks and if not, then hopefully mitre works out and if not that then maybe we should start looking for prospective trades

Anon, I believe you were the only person I "harassed" for cherry picking because all you do is harass my readers.
Anyway, my point is that if Joba and Pettitte can pitch like they're supposed to the loss of Wang becomes less significant, and it does.
Wang hasn't been good all year and they've done fine. If Joba and Pettitte had been pitching well they'd be five games up right now.
I recall us still fighting for a playoff spot pretty late into last season with only one good healthy pitcher in Mussina. Even though Joba doesnt have a lot of wins the team actually wins a lot of the games he pitches. I have no problem going into the playoffs with Sabathia Burnett and Joba as my starting three. Because lets be honest we are starting to see what the 90's Yankees had in needing a starter to get through 6 and then Aceves/Coke, to Hughes, to Mo. And Bruney can get tossed in that mix if he can get back on track. And most teams dont have an ace as their 3rd pitcher. Red Sox have Beckett then Lester then it's up in the air for their 3rd start. We dont need a lights out 5th pitcher, just someone to get through 6.

If Joba and Pettitte can be good #3 & #4 pitchers like they are supposed to be, all we need is for a #5 pitcher to keep the game from getting out of hand for 5+ innings in his starts. I want Wang back, but I suspect this back & forth is going to go on with him all season.
So at this point in time, I want Bruney to be Bruney and if we can get an effective Marte back, Aceves can be considered for the starting role as I don't think Mitre will be the answer. Then you will have CC/AJ/Pettitte/Joba/Aceves and in the bullpen you have Coke & Marte as lefties, and Mo, Hughes, Bruney, Robertson & either Melancon or more likely Tomko. That's a good staff.
Hey, question-- no one is talking about this that I know of-- does anybody know what roster moves the Yankees will make for Mitre tonight? He's not even on the 40-man roster.
I'd like to see him come back but the Yankees can't count on him.Id still like to see them bring in another pitcher
I do not feel comfortable with Wang on the mound. I say shut him down for the year and lets try it again next season.
agreed...rather see a strong healthy Wang next year than giving him a chance to hurt himself further. Maybe the trainers will give him the right off season workout this time around.
