8/14 Minor League Report

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (66-50) beat Durham (66-54) 9-5: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yankees made their 1st appearance at Durham (Tampa Bay) since they throttled them by a 20-2 score in last year's championship game. They downed the Bulls 9-5 to up their season record to 66-50. SWB has the best road record in the league at 35-24.

PITCHING: Ivan Nova came off the DL to make this start for SWB. In the 1st inning, Nova gave up 2 runs on 2 singles, 2 walks, and a fielding lapse to give Durham a 2-1 lead. Nova had a scoreless 2nd inning, giving up another walk. He threw a scoreless 3rd inning after allowing a double, he picked up 2 K's. Durham got to Nova for a run in the 4th on 3 hits to cut the lead down to 7-3. Nova was knocked out of the game with 1 out in the 5th inning after giving up 2 runs on 2 doubles, a single, and an error by Kevin Russo. Nova's line: 4.1 IP, 5 runs, 9 hits, 4 K--3 walks.

Zach Kroenke took over for Nova in the 5th with runners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out. He got a groundout and popout to end the inning with SWB up 7-5. Kroenke threw perfect 6th and 7th innings picking up 4 strikeouts in his 2.2 IP and 0 hits. Kroenke picked up the win (7-1) as he continues to impress.

Damaso Marte came on to pitch the 8th. The first 2 batters singled, but Marte got the next 3 to end the threat, picking up a strikeout. 1.0 IP, 0 runs, 2 hits, 1 K--0 walks, ERA 2.45

Jonathan Albaladejo came on to pitch the 9th. He gave up a leadoff single but got the next 3 batters, picking up a strikeout.

OFFENSE: Andy Sonnanstine got the start for Durham. Kevin Russo led off the game with a double and reached 3rd on an error. He scored on a Colin Curtis RBI groundout to give SWB a 1-0 lead in the 1st. The Yanks pounded Sonnanstine in the 3rd inning for 5 runs. Kevin Russo and Curtis singled. Austin Jackson had a 2-run double. Yurendell de Caster added a RBI double, with Cody Ransom and John Rodriguez getting RBI singles to give the Yanks a 6-2 lead. In the 4th, Curtis singled, and Jackson had a RBI triple to give SWB a 7-2 lead. The Yanks threatened in the 7th when Ransom and Juan Miranda singled, but were stranded. They threatened again in the 8th when Chris Stewart and Russo walked, but once again were stranded. Miranda hit a 2-run homer (17) in the 9th after Ransom led off the inning with a single to give the Yanks a 9-5 win.

NOTES: Shelley Duncan had the game off. ... SWB's season ends in about 3 weeks with the 1st round of playoffs beginning Sept 9. League Championship series is slated to start Sept 15. SWB came into the game leading the IL with a 3.29 team ERA.
