8/17 Minor League Report

He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (67-52) beat Durham (68-55) 9-3: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yanks pounded the Durham Bulls (Tampa) by a 9-3 score. The win ups the Yanks season record to 67-52. They hold a 3.5 game lead over Syracuse in the IL North division.

PITCHING: Josh Towers got the start for the Yankees. He shut out Durham for 6 innings on just 2 hits. He had 5 strikeouts and 3 walks. He tossed a perfect 1st. In the 2nd, he worked out of a jam after giving up a walk and single. Towers stranded runners on 1st and 3rd in the 3rd inning after a single, stolen base and throwing error by Chris Stewart, and walk. He threw a clean 4th inning picking up his 2nd strikeout. Towers had another perfect inning in the 5th, picking up 2 strikeouts. Towers lowered his ERA to 3.53 and got the win.

Mark Melancon pitched a perfect 7th inning, picking up 2 strikeouts. In the 8th, Melancon had control issues. He hit a batter, walked 2, and threw a wild pitch. There was also a passed ball on Chris Stewart. 2 unearned runs scored on infield groundouts to put the lead to 9-2.

Jonathan Albaladejo came on to pitch the 9th inning. He gave up 1 run on a solo homer and 2 singles that cut the lead to 9-3.

OFFENSE: Jason Cromer got the start for Durham. The Yankees wasted no time getting to Cromer. In the 1st, Kevin Russo singled, Colin Curtis sac-bunt, Austin Jackson walked, Shelley Duncan hit an RBI double (78 rbi leads league), Juan Miranda 2-run single, gave SWB a 3-0 lead. In the 2nd, Reegie Corona reached on an error, Chris Stewart had a sac bunt, with Curtis getting a RBI infield hit to up the Yanks lead to 4-0. SWB picked up a solo run in the 4th when Stewart singled, Russo walked, and Curtis reached on an error to load the bases. Jackson followed with a RBI sac fly to up the lead to 5-0. The Yanks knocked Cromer out of the game in the 6th. Stewart and Russo singled. Jackson greeted reliever Julio DePaula with a RBI single. S. Duncan followed with a walk to load the bases. Yurendell de Caster added a 2-run single. A passed ball scored Duncan with the 4th run of the inning to make it 9-0.

NOTES: Russ Ortiz opted out of his minor league deal with SWB. ... Cody Ransom placed on the DL with a bad wrist. ... Doug Bernier is off the DL. ... Pitcher Romulo Sanchez was placed on the DL. ... Two more hits by Kevin Russo tonight upped his average to .330.

I thought Melancon last few outings with the yankees were very good. He seemed to have better control. Oh well he still needs some work in that area.

Melancon is probably going to get a better look next season if Hughes is transitioned back to the starting rotation.

Yea I agree with Durden. Expect him back up in September, and then he'll probably get a full season in pinstripes next year.
