(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (71-56) lost to Buffalo (52-77) 4-0: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yanks continue to struggle offensively, being shutout by the Buffalo Bisons (Mets) 4-0. It was the 8th time the Yanks have been shutout this season. They've played under .500 ball since May 9th, but still own a 3 game lead, pending the outcome of the Syracuse game.

PITCHING: Ivan Nova got the start for the Yankees. Nova got into trouble in the 1st when he gave up singles to his first 2 hitters. He recovered very nicely retiring his next 14 batters until a 2-out single and walk in the 5th. Nova gave up a leadoff single in the 6th, but wiped it out with a doubleplay. Buffalo took a 1-0 lead off Nova in the 7th on 2 singles and a RBI groundout. He left trailing 1-0 and took the loss (1-3). Nova's line: 7.0 IP, 1 run, 6 hits, 5 K--1 walk, 91 pitches--63 strikes, 8 groundouts---8 flyouts.

Mark Melancon came on to pitch a scoreless 8th inning giving up a double. Buffalo got to Melancon for 3 runs in the 9th on 3 doubles and a single to take a 4-0 lead. Melancon's line: 3.0 IP, 3 runs, 5 hits, 5 K's--0 walks.

OFFENSE: The Yanks threatened in the early innings off Buffalo starter Chris Mason, but could not break through. In the 1st, Austin Jackson and Shelly Duncan picked up 2-out singles. Francisco Cervelli came off the DL and doubled in the 2nd inning but was stranded. SWB threatened again in the 3rd when Kevin Russo and Ramiro Pena started the inning with singles, but once again were stranded. The Yanks had another threat the 8th when Cervelli reached on an error and Reegie Corona walked. The Yanks did not get a hit after the Pena's infield single in the 3rd inning. They've scored only 10 runs over their last 6 games.

NOTES: Kevin Russo came into the game 2nd in the league in batting at .336. ... Brian Petersen put on DL to make room for Francisco Cervelli. ... Juan Miranda still nursing a sore ankle. ... The Yankees are sending pitcher Ian Kennedy, catcher Austin Romine, infielder Brandon Laird, and outfielder Colin Curtis to the Arizona Fall League. They will send 3 more pitchers. This year they'll play for the Surprise Rafters. ... Ramiro Pena played centerfield in this game.
