8/3 Minor League Report

================

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will
post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (61-46) beat Pawtucket (48-59) 2-1: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yanks traveled to Pawtucket to take on the Red Sox after sweeping a 3 game series from the PawSox at home this weekend. The Yanks continued their dominance of the Sox with a 2-1 win. They upped their season record to 61-46, best in the International League.

PITCHING: Reliever Zach Kroenke got the spot start for the Yanks against the weak hitting PawSox. Kroenke came into the game 5-1 with a 0.89 ERA with IL batters hitting just .198 against him. Kroenke held the Sox hitless thru the 1st 3 innings. In the 4th, Brian Anderson led off with a solo homer to cut the Yankees lead to 2-1. Kroenke bounced back strong to finish with a perfect 5th inning. It was Kroenke's longest stint of the year as he picked up the win (6-1). 5.0 IP, 1 run, 2 hits, 3 K--1 walk. 64 pitches--42 strikes, 7 groundouts--5 flyouts.

Mike Dunn came on to pitch a perfect 6th inning, picking up 2 strikeouts. Dunn got a strikeout to start the 7th. He then gave up a single, walk, and infield single to load the bases, before being relieved.

Edwar Ramirez relieved Dunn with the bases loaded and 1 out. He got a strikeout and flyout to get out of the big jam. Ramirez threw a perfect 8th inning.

Jonathan Albaladejo came on to pitch the 9th. He got a quick out before giving up a walk and getting a strikeout. A ground ball to Yurendell de Caster, at 2nd base should have ended the game, but he threw the ball away. Albaladejo bounced back to get a ground out to end the game and pick up his 7th save.

OFFENSE: SWB threatened in the 3rd when Ramiro Pena hit a 2-out double, followed by a walk to Colin Curtis, but were stranded. The Yanks took a 2-0 lead in the 4th when Shelley Duncan walked and Juan Miranda hit a 2-run homer (16). The Yanks loaded the bases in the 9th when S. Duncan and Chris Stewart walked, and Yurendell de Caster singled, but were stranded. The struggling SWB offense had lead off walks in 5 innings and could not take advantage.

NOTES: Ivan Nova pitches Tuesday against knuckleballer Charlie Zink for Pawtucket. ... Josh Towers was named International League pitcher of the week. Here's some of the press release via Chad Jennings:

Right-hander Josh Towers turned in consecutive strong starts for the Yankees this week, allowing just two earned runs in a League-best 14.0 innings. Towers did not receive a decision in his first outing Tuesday night against Durham. In a battle of division leaders, Towers went 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. The rival Pawtucket Red Sox came calling last night, but they could not dent the plate against the victorious Towers. He again went 7.0 innings, scattering five hits and three walks in a 3-0 Yankees triumph.

Austin Jackson is really struggling. His average is now down to 304. He has 94 strikeouts in 101 games. He is almost averaging a strikeout per game. That is not good. He is very talented but he is not major league ready. He might need to start next year in triple a.

The Ramiro Pena thing was a joke. He got sent down because the yankees have a strange fascination with Cody Ransom. They played him only a couple of times in center only to save face. Even when Gardy got hurt and they needed a backup centerfielder Pena was still playing the infield.

Ransom sucks there is no reason to keep him on the team now with Hairston on the team. They should of kept Shelly Duncan up and gave him a shot. I dont understand Duncan had a bad month in april last year and never got another shot. While Ransom is hitting under 200 and plays bad defense and he is still on the team. Duncan has a much better bat than Ransom.

nice to see yanks minor league teams doing well, and especially vs sox teams. yanks will be patient with ajax they have melky gardner and then for next year maybe they sign jason bay

No thanks on Jason Bay. Guy would be a disaster as a Yankee, and in Yankee Stadium, and is on the wrong side of 30. Yankees can do better.
