The SWB Yankees had their 5 game win streak snapped at Pawtucket (Boston) by a 6-4 score. They also had their 7 game win streak against the Red Sox snapped in the process. Their season record is 61-47. SWB holds a 3 game lead over Syracuse.
PITCHING: Ivan Nova got the start for the Yankees. He had struggled in his 3 starts since the all star break. The PawSox wasted no time getting to Nova. In the 1st inning, he gave up a walk, followed by a 2-run homer by Chris Carter to take a 2-0 lead. Nova shut the Sox out over the next 3 innings. In the 5th, a leadoff double, sac bunt, and RBI single tied the score at 3. Nova was relieved after the 5th inning. Nova's line: 5.0 IP, 3 runs, 5 hits, 0 K--3 walks. 80 pitches--47 strikes, 7 groundouts--5 flyouts.
Damas Marte came on to start the 6th. He struck out his first 2 batters before giving up a walk and single and was relieved by Whelan.
Kevin Whelan relieved Marte in the 6th with 2 out and runners on 1st and 3rd. He got the final out on a flyout. Whelan had all kinds of control issues in the 7th. Chris Duncan (Shelley's brother) had a RBI sac fly to give Pawtucket a 4-3 lead.
Amaury Sanit relieved Whelan in the 7th and got the final 2 outs of the inning. Sanit had a rough 8th inning giving up 2 runs on 3 singles and a throwing error to give the PawSox a 6-4 lead. Sanit took the loss (0-1).
OFFENSE: The Yanks got a run back in the 2nd when Shelley Duncan walked, Juan Miranda singled. Duncan scored on a double play by Yurendell de Caster to cut the Pawtucket lead to 2-1. SWB took the lead in the 4th when Austin Jackson singled, Duncan and de Caster walked, followed by a 2-run single by John Rodriguez to give SWB a 3-2 lead. The Yankees tied the game at 4 in the 7th when Miranda reached on an error, de Caster walked, and John Rodriquez had a RBI single. Rodriguez had a triple, double, 2 singles and 3 RBI in the game.
NOTES: Franciscon Cervelli did not play in this game. He was taken out of Monday nights' game in the 7th inning. Wednesday is SWB's last scheduled off day of the regular season. ... Kevin Russo was out of the lineup again with a sore knee. ... Peter Abraham has an update on the Yankees draft pick signings.

Hmm, anyone else find it interesting that Brackman seems to be converted into a reliever? I am not sure if its just because he is reaching his innings limit coming back from TJ surgery, that hes been terrible or a little of both. But I think this could be interesting. It worked for Boston with Daniel Bard. He looked TERRIBLE starter, then figured it out as a reliever. He may have given up 2 runs, but since we really have to look for a rose in the concrete here, he did strike out all his outs. Maybe he can figure it out?
I definitely think it's a combination of both, and I also think it's a good idea.
Right now he's very raw plus as you said he's coming off TJ surgery, so the rust will take time to wear off. In a few years I wouldn't be surprised if he put it all together to become a solid MLB pitcher.
By the way, the Sox just lost 4-2 on an Evan Longoria walk-off homer.
